Awesome update Line 6 and thanks for the Mesa Mark IV (from a Mesa fan)!!!

Just came across a cool way to get a bass cab + DI sounds for some more punch and presence. This is pretty standard approach for both stage and studio. I've never used bass IR's before. I saw the IR block Mix % control and the light bulb went on. Maybe I'm late to the party. For IR blocks, you have a mix control... Helix cabs have no mix control, so I had to put in a parallel path with a volume block to pass the amp DI signal... Watch out Ideascale, I'll be comin atcha soon for Mix % on the Helix cabs ;)

(AKG) D112 and D12 are good ones for starters (112 Dynamic and 12 Dynamic). Shure SM7 (7 Dynamic) Sennheiser MD421 (421 Dynamic) EV RE20 (20 Dynamic) You can also experiment with the Neumann U87 (87 Condenser), even as a second parallel mic. One other thing I have been experimenting with is a split signal parallel to the cab block with just a volume block to act as a parallel DI. I feel like I lose punch and presence with just the cab alone. If Line 6 would put a Mix % control in the Helix Cab blocks like they do the Impulse Response Blocks, I wouldn't need to to split the path. I'll probably throw it up on Ideascale

I thought I would post these early since I have missed a few weeks. I went for the bass cab IR's this time as I have an immediate need for a gig, and I really need to show some bass love. I think these IR's have a bit more depth than the Helix bass cabs. I'll be trying these out live this weekend just through PA and monitors, no bass amp. Note that I have also IR'd the horn as well, which is one thing I have been missing from the Helix bass cabs. I think there is also a nice bid of bleed from the woofers in the D2 horn mic that contributes to the overall sound. I intuitively placed a horn block in a parallel block with the woofer IR block and use the IR Block Level control as a horn attenuator (see pic below). Update!!! Added sound clips to Soundcloud. A few sound clips of the factory Helix Cali Bass and Cali 400+ presets with my Mesa Powerhouse 212 + M9 amp or 400+ amp IR's. The horn IR's were captured along with the woofers. The horn IR's are placed in parallel with the woofer IR's in the IR preset versions. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-cali-bass-factory-cabs-vs-mesa-ph212-wooferhorn-irs Link to main IR folder https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0 Link to new Mesa Bass IRs https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wuqugyipjaowprn/AADNC4wGQaKIq66QiMF6dgL1a?dl=0 Gear: Mesa M9 212 Combo Cab, like a Powerhouse 212 but slightly smaller and punchier (MesBas212) Mesa M9 Carbine (M9) Mesa 400+ (4P) Microphones: AKG D112 (D1) on the woofer, Audix D2 (D2) on the Horn Naming Convention: <cab>_<amp>_<mic>_<mic position>_<modifier> IRs: MesBas212_M9_D1_0oc.wav MesBas212_M9_D1_1oc.wav MesBas212_M9_D1_2oc.wav MesBas212_M9_D2_Horn.wav These IR's are draft-working as there is a nasty low-mid peak I need to tame with mic position and I ran out of time. The horn is good though. They are still fun to play with and will give you guys an idea of the difference in a tube and SS power amp IR, but I may be replacing these later once I can tame the 400+ beast. Audix D2 (D2) added- This is an awesome mic with this amp / cab combination!!!! I think it sits between the smoothness of a SM57 and the bite of the e609. I had 3 of these sitting around and decided to rip an IR of it just for kicks. Very cool! http://www.audixusa.com/docs_12/units/D2.shtml

It was bugging me too. Here's a link to the new folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yh4j0qcav86147p/AAA2n--cHUhoe35MIrG4-gxza?dl=0 I revised the naming convention also and will use this going forward. <cab>_<amp>_<mic>_<mic position>_<modifier> Original post has been modified as well with this info and I have placed a Readme file with the IR's.

Thank you guys for this post. This hybrid stomp / preset mode is a new one for me! I was considering bringing in my Boss FC-50 MIDI foot controller to change Helix presets via MIDI PC and leave Helix in footswitch mode.
-
No worries. I didn't take it negatively :)

No experience with those exactly, but I did gig a Line 6 L2M and Markbass Compressore and Super Booster for almost a year with no issues. I sold the L2m. I currently gig Helix and a Mesa Walkabout Scout or M9 and 2x12 with no issues with Helix. Never had the pleasure of the Helix & Stagesource combination.

Sounds like you are going through some acclimation and discovery most of us did here as well. Your setup sounds okay, though I don't know much about the Yamaha's. The Helix cabs have a little to be desired for mid to high gain IMO and the free OH ones are okay I guess. But neither were my cup of tea either. I ended up making my own. See if these IR's I made of my Mesa Triple Recto Multi-Watt power section into my Recto 212 cab give you some instant gratification with the Helix Cali Rectifire model. I actually tested them with my USA PRS SC Trem today and they sounded great. http://line6.com/support/topic/21452-happy-4th-free-irs-posted-mesa-triple-rec-amp-212-cab/ Other than that, you might try some Helix Dual Cabs, parallel path Helix Single Cabs with different mics, high cuts in the 5k-10k range on the cab IR blocks, and some Global EQ tweaks for your monitors..

Made some updates to file organization and naming. See below. Apologies for any confusion. Happy 4th y'all! I posted a few more free IR's to celebrate...and to blow up your eardrums ;) Apologies for yet another round of Recto 212 cab IR's. I FINALLY got around to IR'ing my Recto 212 cab with my Mesa Triple Recto Multi-watt and an SM57...the most logical combination...I know. I got the MTR recently after I had already made the first Recto 212 IR's. Moved new Mesa Triple Rec amp and Recto 212 IR's to their own folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yh4j0qcav86147p/AAA2n--cHUhoe35MIrG4-gxza?dl=0 Update!!! Added a quick sound clip to compare the stock Helix Cali Rectifire factory cabs vs my Recto 212 MTR IR's. These were made with just the factory Cali Rectifire preset with stock cabs swapped out with my MesRec212_MTR_Mix_D1_D5_D6.wav IR. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-cali-rectifire-factory-cabs-vs-recto-212-mtr-ir Link to root IR folder https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0 Revised naming convention for the new IR's for more logical sorting and organization. <cab>_<amp>_<mic>_<mic position>_<modifier> Shure SM57 mic (D5) MesRec212_MTR_D5_1oa_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D5_1oa_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D5_1oa_vin.wav MesRec212_MTR_D5_2oa_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D5_2oa_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D5_2oa_vin.wav AKG D112 mic (D1) MesRec212_MTR_D1_1_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D1_1_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D1_1_vin.wav MesRec212_MTR_D1_2_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D1_2_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D1_2_vin.wav Sennheiser e609 mic (D6) MesRec212_MTR_D6_1_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D6_1_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D6_1_vin.wav MesRec212_MTR_D6_2_cln.wav MesRec212_MTR_D6_2_mod.wav MesRec212_MTR_D6_2_vin.wav Audix D2 (D2) - This is an awesome mic with this amp / cab combination!!!! But knowing that Helix reads the titles if they exist, and the fact that titles are populated when exported from Helix, does it really make sense for Helix to be reading the title on import and not the file name? Was this intentional by Line 6? There is a Windows method to remove file properties like Title, but it doesn't seem to work in Windows 10. A bug?
-
All of the IR's I shared on Dropbox were exported from Helix after I imported the originals into Helix. I thought it was a good way to ensure good, consistent IR's that users would have no issues with importing back into Helix. Dang, I probably hosed everyone with the Title thing. Sorry.
-
You could put each pedal in a Helix send / return, say 1 & 2, and place FX Loop 1 & 2 blocks just like any other Helix model block.
-
You are able to multi-select the impulses in the Helix editor (standard Windows Shift select), right-click and select Export, the browse to your destination folder. It will export all of them. I just exported, re-numbered via Bulk Rename Utility, and re-imported all of my impulses. While I had no problem bringing in the 128 impulses into Helix all at once, I was quickly reminded that Helix will read in the file Title if it is populated. And Helix populates the Title when impulses are exported. Maybe this is the "prefix stripping" you experienced.
-
I could achieve this with pan control for each cab in the Dual Cab block as well. Actually pan control would be useful in other ways too. So maybe that's 2+ birds with one pan-stone. I believe I have seen this requested in some form before.
-
Just seemed intuitive and useful to me to have the option of stereo and mono. Its a nice to have, not a need to have. I wouldn't want Line 6 to spend days or weeks on this. But if its something simple they can do next time they are tweaking the Cab blocks, it would certainly be used and appreciated. I think I smell fresh Helix cab models cookin in the L6 kitchen ;)
-
Yeah, 1/4" left out is a mono mix if the two cabs. But it drives me nuts with headphones to have a different cab in each ear. Thanks for the replies. Posted to IdeaScale. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Stereo-Mono-option-for-Dual-Cab-blocks/830155-23508?submitted=1

Thanks Phil_m That's a cool workaround for now. I think I'll post a mono option for Dual Cab block on Ideascale though.

I'm really considering going with the Mission Gemini 2-P passive cab with my Line 6 Spider Valve MKII head. I'm currently using the L6 SV with a pair of Crate PE-12H 2-way PA speakers and it sounds great. I think the Mission G2P is a definite upgrade and good next step. Unlike the Matrix FR212, it is stereo capable, coaxial, and could evolve with me whether I go clean / flat stereo tube amp or stereo SS power amp. It's also about $300 cheaper than the Matrix FR212.

I use a lot of presets with mixed mutli-cab IR's and two Helix cabs mixed in parallel, often the same cab with two different mics. Using Helix Dual Cab blocks would simplify pathing and setup, but I cant seem to find a way to set the Helix Dual Cab blocks to a mixed mono signal. They are split stereo, one cab left, one cab right. Am I missing something? If not, has anyone requested this feature on IdeaScale?

The toe switch on the expression pedal toggle 1 & 2...engage it like a wah. I don't know a workaround for true scenes, like Pod HD and my M13 had. I use banks for preset "scenes" and switch to foot switch mode for pedalboard stomp type "scenes". I believe scenes are in the Line 6 to do radar for Helix.

Not sure if this will help, but I made a preset based on this video 2011 Sweetwater video of him demoing it...over my Saturday morning coffee. I posted two versions. Summer Song: Solo 100 Crunch TS808 and delay for a wetter sound http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2167024/ R5 SatchSumSong: Simplified with just the Solo 100 OD and room for drives and effects http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2167030/. I noticed in the video he has using Marshall with dual mics, an SM57 off axis and a ribbon 121. I used dual parallel Marshall 1960 cabs to get close. Unfortunately Helix doesnt yet have off axis mic models or off-center positions. But I think I tweaked the parameters to get a similar sound. I put the cabs on Path 2 for processor performance and flexibility. I tried to leave a little cut to the sound for live use. You can move the mics further from the cabs and/or lower the high cuts on the cabs if you want it a little smoother. I left the looper block in it too because it helps me to loop a guitar part while I'm tweaking a preset. Maybe it will help you too. You can clear it later.

I use an older Tripplite Isobar 6. It solved some noise issues I had between my Mesa amps and Helix when hooking up the Ext Amp from Helix to it.
