I believe you have to assign the MIDI CC to a footswitch or controller in Command Center to hook it with a Snapshot. The DT25-DT50 Remote preset in the Templates folder is a good example as it sends MIDI CC to the DT amps to change their channels and topology. You can save the on/off status of the MIDI CC configured footswitches in each Snapshot.

Is anyone tweaking the DT50 "hidden" parameters 12AX7 boost, phase inverter B+ voltage, or feedback capacitor type for Helix? I'm just wondering if these affect Helix's signal path.

Thank you! PS...HD500X had a 57 off axis!?!? Get with it Helix ;)

Great question and good timing...I have a DT50 head coming in this week. Could be a good one for the Helix Wiki.

I was looking at the internal schematic in the manual of the Crate Powerblock, and it showed a Speaker Sim on the L & R Line In jacks. A lot of threads say this is a mistake, it IS NOT a mistake!!! It is definitely darker and muffled running into the Line In of the CPB than into the CD Inputs. I finally got around to trying a stereo 1/4" from Helix Phones, Y-cable to RCA adapter, then CPB in. It sounded great, nice and clear now. Just like the power section of the Mesa Walkabout. I'm back to the CPB (fits in the Helix bag) and my Recto 2x12 or Mark V 1x12 cab.

I have to do that too with my AKG P420 condenser. I was thinking something is wrong with the mic. That mic is 200 ohm impedance and the AKG site recommends a preamp with a minimum 1000 ohm impedance. I'm not sure what the impedance if the Helix mic pre is.

Is this happening with Helix connected to a computer? I've had Helix freeze a few times when connected to the computer USB with my DAW open and the Helix editor. I now set the DAW MIDI to nine when I am working in the Helix editor.

Good input so far, thanks. They all have some strengths. I've never considered Blue mics. They look promising. I need to research them a bit. I do like most cab models and IRs with a C414. Thats why the C214 is really appealing.

Okay. At lunch I created a 4-channel preset with Snapshots to cover a lot of Prog / Math / Djent territory. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2281456/ Snapshots (1) Clean Ambient - Jazz Rivet amp>Dual 4x12 Cali V30>Simple Pitch>Mod Chorus Echo>Particle Verb (2) Clean - Jazz Rivet amp>Dual 4x12 Cali V30>Adriatic Delay>63 Reverb (3) Rhythm - Cali Rectifier>Dual 4x12 Cali V30>Cali Q>Noise Gate (4) Lead & Breakdown - Gate>TS808>Cali Rectifier>Dual 4x12 Cali V30>Cali Q>Simple EQ (1.4kHz boost)>LA Comp>Gate I'm running this with Global Settings>Footswitches>Preset Mode Switches>Stomp/Snap. -

Thanks man! I'll probably sit down with it some more this weekend and build in some snapshots for 1.4k'ish mid-boost for a 2nd rhythm and a clean tone. I need to try it with a mix of drums and bass too. -
This is the same pot that is in my Mission EP-L6 expression pedal, and is 10kOhm with a linear sweep as in the Line 6 pedals. No Helix adjustment should be needed to get the full 0-100 range.

OK, I scored a DT50 head for real cheap and its on the way. I couldn't pass it up. I had previously messed with a DT50 112 combo from GC, but returned it after a couple if days. I'll be using this head with my Recto 2x12. I didn't try that before. I have a lot more experience with Helix this time around too. The DT Helix templates (new with 2.0?) look like a good start. It seems like you could load up several preamps in the same preset and use Snapshots to toggle them on/off, as well as change DT power amp MIDI commands. Has anyone tried this?

Doh! Sorry ronnief83.

Trailer Trash and Pedal Pad are the only two I have laid hands on. There are some custom ones out there too that could cover your needs I think. I've had Pedal Pad boards for 10+ years starting with the original MKS Pedal Pad XL with the rack ears accessory. The company is awesome. When the Pedal Pad lite came out that was the same footprint but lighter wood and bag case, I called them and asked if I could just get the shell and bag since the aluminum pads, patch bay, and power supply were the same. They said sure and really hooked me up on the price. So I would say they have great customer service too.

Inspired by your presets and this thread... I took a pass at a tight, mean Djent tone built around the Cali Rectifire amp and Dual Cab Block 4x12 Cali V30 with one 121 Ribbon and one 112 Dynamic mic. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2277744/ Despite intuition, I preferred the amp distortion over the TS 808 pedal. It seems to have more depth and punch. I found I got much more punch and bite pulling down the Sag and Bias controls on the amp. I placed a Cali Q Graphic block after the Dual Cab block with a modified Mesa Mark V shape in lieu of a parametric. The Cali Q frequency centers work really well for me. Yet again, EQ after the Helix cab really helped me get the high gain tone in my head without IR's. -
I play mostly high gain stuff and when first trying the 4x12 Helix cabs with high gain amps, I intuitively (with my limited live mic'ing experience only) put a 57 Dynamic mic on them up close to the cab, which my ears instantly rejected. IR's of 4x12 cabs with SM57 mics sounded MUCH better, especially with off axis and Fredman options out there. So my inexperienced first impressions were HX Cabs = bad...IR's=good. Since then, during my IR explorations, I have learned a TON about the different mics, distances, positions and my horizons have expanded. I found that I personally prefer Sen MD421, Shure SM7B, EV RE20, AKG D112 mics on my high gain amps/cabs...both Helix and IR's. Dual cabs with a mix of those and condensers and ribbons are nice. I also had to get out of the headphones to appreciate the HX Cabs. They sound much better through monitors or FRFR systems. They are a little more even and consistent (probably by design) than IR's from one to another, and sound good into a live space and PA system. I appreciate what ronnief83 is doing in the video, but I feel like I accomplish the same thing (minus verb on the second cab) with Helix Dual Cab blocks and a mono block after (I'm pretty up on EQ blocks after the cabs at the moment). You can mix the cabs with just the Cab Block level controls.

Pedal Pad has some nice options. Different sizes, tolex and selectable connection types and locations. Their $269 Phat III board looks about perfect for Helix and an expression pedal at 28" x 18". Helix w/ cables plugged in and my Mission Exp pedal on the side is 26" x 14". http://www.pedalpad.com/products/pedal-boards#!/PHAT-III-Hinged-Pedal-Surface-w-accessible-compartment/p/27578297/category=6472051

I hope it's okay if I ask a mic question here. Mics are practically a Helix accessory to me these days ;) There is a lot of good audio engineering experience here as well. I'm looking for some advice on either a great sub-$300 condenser mic for guitar cabs, vocals, acoustic guitar and double bass. Alternatively, I am interested in upgrading my AKG Perception 420 with a Microphone Parts RK87+cap kit. http://microphone-parts.com/collections/mod-kits/products/akg-perception-mod-kit My AKG P420 mic has an issue with signal strength and low end. It "works", but I really have to crank the mic gain 75% up on Helix, my iRig Pro Duo, line 6 UX-2 or UX-8, and Eleven Rack to get an acceptable level (I do have 48V phantom power on). Even then, there is a noticeable loss of low end that is very apparent when I try to capture an IR with it. To be honest, I bought it used a very long time ago and never really used it. I don't think it has ever worked right. I took the P420 apart to make sure I could do it and check the cap type (per the Microphone Parts instructions). When I pulled the capsule out, I saw it was pretty spotted. I read some articles about cleaning lightly with warm, distilled water, but just upgrading the capsule to get a much better quality U87'ish mic sounds good to me. I don't think I can score a C414 on my budget, but a C214 is doable. It seems like the main difference is the single cardioid pattern of the C214 vs multiple pattern options of the C414. As I really don't have a lot of experience with condenser mics, I'm open to other mid-level options that can perform well.

I've been cyber-stalking the Mission Gemini 2 for a while. I haven't pulled the trigger quite yet. Per the MG2 manual, Input 1 is 1/4" stereo TRS (or mono when switched accordingly). I/O Input 1 - Combo XLR-1/4†TRS jack line input (mono or stereo) http://missionengineering.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Mission-GM-2-Hardware-User-Guide.pdf In my mind, this makes it the perfect Helix FRFR stage amp with a single 1/4" TRS cable connection from the Helix Phones. Phones knob adjusts your stage volume, Volume knob controls Helix XLR out to FOH.

I played through the presets earlier. He used a Helix Dual Cab block with two 4x12 Cali V30 cabs, one with a Dynamic 57 and one with a Condenser 30. Each had different high and low cuts on them. Just personal preference, I swapped them out for two 4x12 Uber V30 cabs with a Dynamic 112 mic instead of the Dynamic 57 on the one. I'm loving EQ (parametric or 10 band) after the Helix or IR cabs. -
Maybe one of those "additional improvements and optimizations". I've recently revisited the cabs after spending months with only IRs. They sounded better than I remember and/or I'm now more experienced with the mics. They're still a little boxy on the hi gain stuff but sound pretty good on everything else.

Got em. Nice parametric after the cab. I actually liked the noise gate at the end of the chain personally. The Presence on the Helix amps was a little low for my rig. I needed to kick it up to around 7. It worked really well with my homemade Recto 212 AKG D112 IR too. Thanks! -

Man, now I want to try an octave split path into a bass amp model...could be sick for jamming at home...or fire the bassist per SMG Studio videos ;) -

Forgot to mention that lowering the Sag control in the amp models can tighten up the sound if needed.
