We should probably pin this topic as well, sooo many factors can lead to this I'll throw my latest one up here. My helix sounded great at home but every time went to band practice there was a horrible buzz, after swapping cables, guitars, speakers, turning off all equipment then back on.... turns out it was a Monster Power Strip that didn't have anything turned on in it, was hooked up to his home theater. Unplugged it and the buzz disappeared. So it doesn't have to be anything attached to the Helix or your sound equipment.

Yeah, mine does this all the time as well, I've got the Mhz synced with my sound card at 48, I'm using a high quality gold cable and still it loses sync a lot. If my cat is in the room and touches me.... that's an instant out.
-
Also make sure your Helix digital output frequency matches the input on your device. My roland usb mixer was set for 48Mhz and Helix of course wouldn't work til I matched that in the Global settings.
-
Side note, the guitarist I've been playing with for 10 years heard mine, got one, after a couple weeks of messing with it used it at practice last night and it sounded GREAT!
-
Used it last night, it is pricey but very effective!

This post is for those who don't own a Helix yet and may be on the line and confused about this thread. Scott you don't have to reply to this, I've read your posts and just as you are entitled to your opinion... so am I. I own a GNX4, I used it for gigs for 2 years, initially found it hard to get really good tones til I found MFX Supermodels on line, this guy made a large amount of very usable patches which I then modified to my needs. Really liked this pedal. I now own a Helix. Bottom line this thing is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the GNX4, the only problem I have found with the Helix is the number of modifying options, this is not a bad thing but dialing in the PERFECT sound if you are a tweaker can seem to take a long time between choosing AMP, CAB, MIC, MIC DISTANCE, EFFECTS etc etc etc. I have found it extremely easy to get usable sounds right away, I am a constant tweaker and will keep adjusting many of them as I go, but I did this with the GNX4 as well. IMHO.... to sell this thing and keep an old outdated pedal that you can only get one usable sound out of (this is not my experience) makes ZERO sense. AND... if you cannot get one usable sound out of this device... you have no idea what you are doing. This is all my opinion.

Clever, cool, and/or elegant stand solutions for Helix

Let your bread cool whilst you rock? -
Right side from top or bottom? With front or back side facing you? Sorry I opened it up but couldn't figure out exactly what was squeaking :P
-
Scott, if you are still following this, about the only thing that made my GNX4 usable was a guy that modeled amps and artist sounds for that pedal, I think his patches are still available at MFX Supermodels, totally worth it if you are really going to keep using that pedal.
-
I have purchased many of his tones, most of them are really good, I downloaded this one and cranked up my Strat model on my Variax and it sounds thin and really bad.... dunno what's up with that, sounds great in the video.
-
Anyone have a pic or a video of where and how they are handling this issue? The squeaky pedal issue, not the others.
-
And to make it more complicated you cannot assign these tracks globally, you will have to do this for each and every patch you plan on using for this.
-
Not disappointed at all, it is modeled after Eddies 5150 amp by Peavey. Not at home to check the tone so maybe not for that specific song.

Thanks Jim, did they say what "kind" of lube? I'm assuming not "astroglide".

Just found an "official" answer from another thread. Someone else opened a ticket for this issue and was told to "take it to an authorized repair center" My closest one is an hour away.... guess I'll rip this baby open.
-
It probably would, but I would really like to use what Line 6 intended for this, but if I don't hear something soon I'll have to take a shot in the dark.
-
Well... now mine has started to squeak. I've read the other posts on this but I haven't seen a definitive answer from Line 6 Staff about the appropriate way to de squeak it. Anyone get an answer from either a ticket or from some official source? I'm a bit leary about applying anything to these components without word from on high.
-
You could do that or have it running on it's own separate line and toggle between the two, both will work.
-
I know it's extra gear to carry but you are not going to get a better sax sound than that out of your guitar!
-
I have a GR-55 for sale, it will give you a sax sound, and thousands of others! :)

Best method of setting patches levels to the same volume??
Gawwuf replied to JLEpperson's topic in Helix
I'm sure you already know but just in case.... You don't want all your patches the same volume, you want them to be placed properly in the mix of what you are doing. It seems my clean patches need to be just a bit louder than the dirty ones to cut through, and of course lead boosts will be louder than the rhythm patches. That's why I categorize and adjust the peaks accordingly. Is this dead horse properly beaten?
