OP GHOSTED us! That NEVER happens...
-
I supplement my income driving for Ubereats. All day long I take driving directions from a robot. If I paid attention I'd be dead.

That's going to depend upon where you live. I would open a support ticket including that info. Mine didn't break but was coming off. I super-glued it.

The default recording levels when using Helix/HXS via USB are correct in most circumstances. Here's a couple of links to help you to understand proper recording levels: Recording Levels: Digital Recording | Should you be Tracking at -18 dBFS? (decibelpeak.com) What is the Ideal Level to Record Tracks into a DAW? - InSync (sweetwater.com)

Yes. If the switch is in the "Power Amp" position it's before the Cat's Post FX. If the switch is in the FX Loop position it's after the Cat's Post FX. NOTE: The "Channel Volume" is part of the PREAMP. It does not affect the XLR level when you're using the Power Amp In, only when using the full amp.

Yes. Example Preset attached. Note the placement and PANNING of the SPLIT and MIXER Blocks, and that FX Loop 1 and Left Out (PATH A PANNED HARD LEFT) go to the 5150 in 4cm. Path B includes a MONO GAIN Block - necessary to create the split and collapse the PATH B Stereo signal to MONO prior to the MIXER Block, where PATH B is PANNED HARD RIGHT to go out the Right Output to the Input of the JCM. Any MONO FX that you want in BOTH amps go before the FX Loop. STEREO FX ONLY after the MIXER. Also, in the MIXER BLOCK I've adjusted the A/B Levels to try and balance the levels of the PINGS and PONGS. You may need to do further adjustments using the OUTPUT BLOCK Level meters on Helix. FWIW I used a Catalyst100 for the 5150 in 4cm and a VHT Special6 Ultra for the JCM, going straight to the Input of the CLEAN Channel vs using its FX Loop. chrmoor.hlx

Those types of amps typically have two tube "gain stages" in the preamp. The first tube stage overdrives the second either a little or a lot. The degree to which the first stage overdrives the second allows for variation in the character of the overdrive which feeds the master/power tubes.

This is a user-to-user forum. Nobody from L6 hangs out here. If you really want the L6 developers to consider your suggestions, post here: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/ Be sure to search first, as I'm 99% certain that this request has been posted AT LEAST once, and you wouldn't want to dilute the vote, so search and upvote ALL of the previous requests for this!

AFAIK, it can't. You should check the MIDI capabilities of whatever you decide on. The HXFX Snapshot functions are very useful and powerful in that regard. When I got my Cat I picked up an old iPad for $100 on Craigslist. HXEdit doesn't require much of a computer, you can likely get a basic PC for cheap.

HX Edit does not run on mobile devices and is available for MAC and PC on the Line6 Website.

IF you have a high-quality Audio Interface with a 1M Instrument Input AND IF you have a powerful enough laptop to get acceptable (<10ms) latency without glitching AND if that latency is acceptable vs the 1 to 3.5ms latency of HW modelers (GT1000/HXStomp) AND IF none of your presets use FX that require <1M Input Impedance (certain fuzzes, some others in Helix) THEN Laptop/Native won't sound EXACTLY the same as Helix HW because no AI's preamps will sound EXACTLY the same as Helix direct to your FRFR BUT It WILL sound plenty good enough for jamming. "Noticeably different" only matters if you like one sound better than the other. If you've never heard either, you either like it or you don't. I have both rigs. They sound slightly different. Both are totally acceptable for jamming. I do not have "Golden Ears". You're the only person in the world who has your ears. My "Golden Tone" could be your "Horrid Noise". Bottom line/my recommendation - get a HW modeler and leave the computer on your desk where it belongs! Setup/teardown/transport will always be simpler with a modeler. Also, less failure points. Nothing ruins a good jam vibe than a glitchy computer rig. Well, if your guitar falls over and breaks the headstock. Or the neighbor calls the cops... :-(

Post it on Ideascale and post a link here. I'll vote for it!

Annoying, but normal. Workaround: As you add FX, set them OFF and SAVE the preset. You can then set them as desired in each Snapshot. Much less irritating than adding a bunch of FX in SS1, then switching to SS2 and getting HORRIBLE NOISE! I think there's another workaround, but I can't recall it at the moment.
-
If you're using your Helix with a DAW, then try a higher buffer setting. If you're not, disconnect the USB cable and see if the noise stops. If not, check all of your cables and maybe try a different guitar. If that doesn't fix it perform a Full Factory Reset (don't forget to backup first!). If that doesn't fix it open a support ticket.

Using my line 6 as a Midi Controller for RC300 and GR-1
rd2rk replied to JimCoulthard's topic in Helix
I'm going to assume that the programs on the RC300 (SONG) and the GR1 (TONE) are both called using Program Change Messages (PC#). In the attached example preset, the RC300 is on MIDI Channel 1 and the GR1 is on MIDI Channel 2. The PC#s for each are placed in INSTANT COMMANDs 1 (IC1 = RC300) and 2 (IC2 = GR1). When the preset loads (using SS1 [S1 - T1] as default) it sends a PC to the RC300 to call the SONG (using IC1) and a PC to the GR1 to load TONE 1 (using IC2). SS2 sends a PC to the GR1 to load TONE 2 and SS3 loads TONE 3. Note that on SS2 and SS3, IC1 (RC300) remains the same as on SS1. This prevents Helix from re-sending the SONG call to the RC300, preventing the RC300 from re-loading the SONG on each SS change. "The Song Remains the Same". Only the TONE changes. If you don't already have one, I HIGHLY recommend that you DL a MIDI MONITOR program so that you can test your configurations. Excellent and simple to use FREE monitor: MIDIView - Free MIDI Monitor tool for Win & Mac (hautetechnique.com) JimCoulthard.hlx -
Using my line 6 as a Midi Controller for RC300 and GR-1
rd2rk replied to JimCoulthard's topic in Helix
"currently on the preset I can set the preset, command centre and programme". What exactly do you mean by this? "I want to select patches on the tone for Roland Gr1 ideally in snapshots this is where it goes wrong." What exactly "goes wrong"? "When I load the preset I want Helix to send ________________." "When I change snapshots I want Helix to send_________________________." -
No. 0-127 is the MIDI standard. If you have a device/sw that numbers its patches 1-128, some will have an option to use one system or the other, and some controllers will allow you to specify which system to use. Others, you just have to deal with the discrepancy. S-Gear and ToneX Pedal use 0-127. Amplitube, Guitar Rig (5) and THU use 1-128. On all three 0 takes you to Preset 1, anything else goes to PC# + 1. FCB1010 (UNO Chip) allows you to choose 0-127 or 1-128. Interesting factoid - If you switch Helix Banks, as soon as you select a preset Helix not only sends the PC#, it also sends the BANK# on CC#32. In GR5 this will change the "Tag" (Preset Category aka BANK), but not in THU and, of course, Amplitube only has one BANK. Just in case you imagined there were such a thing as "STANDARDS" in MIDI controlled SW. HA!

Example preset attached. You might want to have a look at the manual for an explanation of what a "SEND" is. jrox.hlx

Use a Stereo Return Block with the K&K connected to the RETURNS and Electric connected to the L/Mono Input. Put the Return Block in a parallel path and use the PANS to keep the signals separated. Example preset attached. Note the Split Block setting. rb3wreath.hlx

Pod Farm is a PLUGIN. You install it on a track in your DAW. The ASIO Device in the DAW is both INPUT and OUTPUT. You plug your guitar into the GX. You configure the DAW to use the GX as the ASIO Device. You take the Output from the GX into the AUX on the CAT. OR Configure the DAW to use the Catalyst as ASIO Device. Set Track 1 to USB 1 (Cat Processed). Set Track 2 to USB 3 (Cat DIRECT). Now if you put Pod Farm on Track 2 you can compare all the sounds from Pod Farm (Track 2) to all the sounds from the Cat (Track 1).
-
^^^ This is the way. Note the placement of the SEND to the Laney. That's the trick.
-
Did you DL and install the Drivers? Even then you'll likely have a problem in that the GX has an INSTRUMENT level Input and the Cat has a MIC level Output. Bottom line, it's an Audio Interface, and the Cat has a (newer, probably better) AI built in. The GX is totally unnecessary with the Cat.
