Sure, but don't loose track of the fact that you're dealing with a 5w guitar amp vs a 170w power amp. Maybe you just turned the output block level way down on your patches because the PS 170 is LOUD.
-
Now we know that it's not defective. The volume drop in DSP bypass mode can have multiple causes: input block -> In-Z not 1MOhm or Auto input block -> Gtr Pad not Off output block -> Level not 0dB Global EQ VOLUME knob not full
-
Settings -> I/O Config to Insert Cabling: L IN from guitar R IN from dirt pedal out L OUT to amp R OUT to dirt pedal in That should be all.
-
This tells us that the cabling is correct. We go step by step. Set Global Settings -> Preferences -> Bypass Type to DSP Press the Upper Knob and Lower Knob together to DSP bypass HX Stomp. The display will read “DSP bypass! Press any switch.” Turn up the VOLUME knob. You should now hear the guitar again. Do you?
-
It's possible and the Helix is good at it. You can put MIDI messages and computer keyboard strokes (e.g. the enter or space key) on footswitches. Read the Command Center chapter in the manual to learn about the possibilities and how-tos.

Set it up like this: guitar -> cable -> HX Stomp Input L/Mono HX Stomp Output L/Mono -> cable -> Hotone Input If you don't power the HX Stomp it is bypassed and you should get the raw guitar sound. Do you? If you then power the HX Stomp does the sound mute after booting?
-
To summarize you're saying that you've checked that the Hotone works and that the HX Stomp works and the cables, too, but they don't work together, right? That is impossible.

Nice. One way is to set Global Settings -> Footswitches -> FS8 Function to TogglEXP. The other (imho better) way is is to set Global Settings -> Footswitches -> FS8 Function to Stomp 8 and assign FS8 to bypass wah and volume (if one is on the other is bypassed) and assign both wah and volume to EXP1 (EXP2 isn't used). This works because to toggle between wah and volume you need to "toe down" the expression pedal which means the volume is full anyways.
-
FS8 is the name of any footswitch that is connected to the ring of the external footswitch jack. It's what FS5 is on the normal HX Stomp. FS8 is the correct option.

Ignore my post. What you have is already the right cable for the SP1-L6. It might be faulty though. Open it up the stereo plug (=TRS: tip, ring, sleeve) and check whether the tip and ring cables are in danger of having (unwanted) contact.
-
To test whether the problem still occurs without MIDI: Bypass Assign the delay to an onboard footswitch and add the feedback parameter via Controller Assign. Test for latency.
-
There are some effects parameters that have a ramp time. Can you post the preset that is choking?
-
Make sure to use a TRS cable.
-
After you did the MIDI monitor investigation mentioned above: report back and we can go on narrowing down the problem.

MIDI is a standard protocol. If both units 'speak' MIDI (which they do) then they are compatible. Is the cabling like this: Helix MIDI Out -> Control Switcher MIDI In? Is the MIDI cable ok? Test Helix sending MIDI CC messages: You can hook up the Helix to a computer via USB and check whether it sends the right CC messages using a DAW or a MIDI monitor e.g. MIDIView. Make sure Global Settings -> MIDI/Tempo -> USB MIDI is engaged for that. If you see it sending MIDI messages via USB it also sends it via MIDI OUT. Or even better use another MIDI-USB interface and connect the Helix to it via MIDI and then use a MIDI monitor program on a computer.
-
Guitar speakers are not full range speakers and their high end response is significantly tamed beyond about 5kHz. Take a look at the frequency response chart of a Celestion V30 to see for yourself.
-
Don't know but here is what you can do to narrow down the problem: You could record the MIDI IN messages via USB using a DAW to test when the messages come in (the duration between two sent CC messages) and whether there is other stuff that is going on. You could simultaneously record an audio track to measure the actual reaction delay time. Hope that helps.

Control Switcher: 1. Factory Reset Apply power while holding down both buttons #2 and #3. LED #1 will be on. Press button #1. Press buttons #2, #3 and #4 as each LED comes on. LEDs will blink and then stay on. Remove power. 2. Enable CC message control Apply power while holding down button #3. LED #3 will flash until you release the button. Press buttons #1 and #2 so that #1 is OFF and #2 is ON. Remove power when finished. You can now send CC messages #80-83 to control the four loops. Helix: Set Global Settings -> MIDI/ Tempo -> MIDI Base Channel to 1. Test CC function: In Command Center set a footswitch to CC Toggle, Base, 80, 0, 127, Latching . Use the footswitch to test whether switch #1 on the Control Switcher reacts. If it works check the other switches, too: replace 80 with 81, 82, 83 in the CC Toggle command's CC # parameter. Remove footswitch CC Toggle again (set it to None). Now your good to use Instant Commands to send MIDI CC messages #80-83 per snapshot.

The EVH 5150III 100W head manual does not mention MIDI. So no direct MIDI switching. You'd need a device that translates MIDI to those Peavey footswitch signals. This cable or a similar one in combination with a relay switcher like the Voodoo labs Control Switcher MIDI Amp Commander and others should do the job. Ask Peavey support to make sure.

The AC30's overdrive comes from it's power amp. You won't get overdrive from the preamp unless you hit it hard with a boost - it is just one tube stage and a bit of filtering. The overdrive happens after the preamp in the phase inverter and the power tubes. You could try the Carillon preamp for this. The best preamp imho is the Cali Texas CH2 - very versatile. Give it a try!

That's a nice suggestion. The Deluxe Comp is great for that. Ratio 10:1, Attack 0.1ms, Release 200ms, Mix 50% seems a starting point to me.
-
You can output the signal for the amp on the left channel and a cabinet emulation for FOH on the right channel: put an IR or Cab block last in the signal chain move it to Path B (action button) in the mixer block (circle symbol) pan A hard left and B hard right You'd need to find a cab sim / IR that matches the sound coming from your cab. And be aware of the fact that i.e. the presence and depth control on the amp is usually after the FX loop - hence they will not affect the signal to FOH. I hope i was clear. ;)

@Dubuyu Why is upwards compression desirable to you? What are you trying to achieve?
-
Disable Global Settings -> MIDI/Tempo -> Snapshot CC Send. If enabled Helix sends #CC 69 messages which the Big Sky recognizes as Plate low end parameter changes.

I bought four short TRS male -> XLR male cables as adapters to connect to XLR cables leading to PA. On two of them I opened up the TRS plug and cut the ground. I marked these as "GND lift". Works, no complaints.
