  1. UPDATE 2: Flashing the firmware fixed the problem! Who would have thought that the firmware would fix the MAG pickups?! PSARKISSIAN: Both of my JTV's are out of warranty. Both are about the same age. I am the Minister of Music for a local church and use one JTV-69 as a backup for the other. I keep all the firmware, patches and sound sets in in sync at all times. Before these, I owned a Variax 500 that I heavily modified and giggled with for nearly a decade. I worked as an audio engineer/producer from 1989 - 2014 - I have been trouble shooting and repairing instruments and studio gear for a long time. An old Line6 tech I knew used to work on my V500 and allowed me to observe his work when several parts failed at different times (including a bridge cable and 2 piezo bridge sadles). I do thank you for clarifying that the part# is explicitly for certain JTV-69 models. :)
  2. UPDATE: I went through the entire guitar today with a multimeter. All connections and the wiring harness were good. Since I didn't have a copy of the schematic, I had no way to adequately test the main PCB-A. BUT...I do have another, identical guitar. So I swapped the PCB-A board out of the other guitar and PRESTO! everything worked fine. I called the service center tech again and reported my findings. I inquired as to what would be involved with getting a new one to which he replied, "Sounds like you're pretty handy with this kind of thing - why don't you call Line6, order the part and do it yourself?" So I called Line6 and they were extremely helpful. They said they had not heard about this happening (so I referred them to this thread). They told me how to proceed. So if anyone else out there experiences this, you want to order the "PCB-A Main Guitar+G11," part #50-02-0320-2 from Full Compass. They also suggested re-flashing the firmware before ordering the part...
  3. I am having this problem with one of my JTV69s now. Checked the back cavities to make sure no broken string ends were in there. Checked connections were tight. Problem still exists. I spoke to the nearest Line 6 repair tech by phone. He said the preamp may have failed. Does anyone know about the magnetic pickups on these using a preamp? Before I open up the fr4ont cavity, I'd appreciate any ideas on what to look for?
  4. Try assigning the bypass function for your volume block to a different controller while keeping the gain parameter assigned to Exp-2.
  5. I am using it on a 2015 MacBook Pro. I play 2 JTV-69s outfitted with Fishman Triple Play wireless MIDI pickups. I am actually using my Helix Floor as my interface with my guitars connected via VDI. I often have the Variax feeding one signal chain with the MAG pickups and another signal chain with the Variax pickups. Sometimes I will also employ Helix Native, Bias Amp, or Bias FX for different preamp flavors. Using another signal chain on the Helix, I am running various synths including Omnisphere 2.5, DB-33 and SampleTank 3.What I love about this setup is that GigPerformer allows me to control the states & mix of the software using Rack Variations that follow my Helix Snapshots exactly!
  6. I know, I thought the same thing at first glance. Now I would say that it was WELL with the money!! Download the free trial and try for yourself. It has both greatly improved my live experience, saves me a ton of time creating songs and set lists, but (thru the rack panels I have creates) allow me to focus on making music and not programming!
  7. Mainstage hogs system resources!! I'm been an Apple diehard since 1990, but I refuse to use the bloated MainStage. I prefer GigPerformer (https://www.gigperformer.com). Best VST host I have found. It will also follow your snapshots one to one!!
  8. Probably came with the installer...
  9. Sound systems of any quality are vastly more complex that any FRFR speaker. A sound tech worth their salt will "ring out a room" so that they can get maximum gain before feedback. That means they employ 31 band EQs to cut resonant frequencies in various ranges so that they can get the loudest possible volume without having resonant frequencies start ringing. Plus there are crossover networks in triple-amped and quad-amped systems, separate EQs on the monitor feeds, channel EQs, etc. So no, your tone is never going to sound anything like how it sounds without all of that signal processing. What you CAN do is say to your sound tech - "Please listen to the tone coming out of my speaker. I would really appreciate if you could, as your starting point, replicate that as best you can." Then channel EQ can be employed to get you back in the ball park.
  10. Again, you will just need a Mac or a bootable partition with OS X Mountain Lion. Not legacy.
  11. That is awesome! I will try this as soon as I get a chance. Thank you for a legit suggestion and plausible work around!! Rasberries to the mansplainers who decided to stick their noses in about lollipop they don't know about. TP software is a 64-bit VST host. You do have the option to run it in 32-bit mode, but it would not then function with the bundled software. Indeed, the problem was well documented on Guitar forums. -------------------------------------------- Update: That TOTALLY worked! Many thanks to you azzeccagarbugli!!
  12. I am a music minister and layer guitar synths with my guitar when leading worship and currently own 2 Helix floor units. Triple Play is my synth interface/driver, but I dislike most of the available guitar sim software bundles. Positive Grid's Bias FX works fine with TriplePlay, but not Helix Native. Bias FX is fine, but NOT as good as Helix IMO. I really want to use Helix Native on the TriplePlay, but Helix Native is undiscoverable after scanning the VST plugin folders. What gives?
  13. I used the old Variax Workbench software on my Mac for years, was able to operate it as recently as 2014. You will just need a Mac or a bootable partition with OS X Mountain Lion.
  14. I always have the same difficulties when using USB connected to the editor. Sucks, but I've gotten used to it. Hope they fix that in the next firmware update.
  15. The Variax guitar signal feeds the Helix via VDI input. Look at my pdf diagram. From there, the Helix' FX send 1 passes through the EHX B9 organ pedal and then is routed into the modified 1/4" input to the GR-55. Therefore, I use the GR-55's "Normal Pickup' signal path to control and process that signal. That way I can add an organ layer on top of the two PCM paths in the GR-55. This setup also allows me to apply pre/post signal processing to that send within the Helix. Yes, I am also using a GK-3 13 pin to drive and control the GR-55. The guitar's 1/4" output is NOT connected to the GK-3. Hope that answers your questions. In this way, in a single patch I could have: • VDI 1 - Variax input - Acoustic 6 string feeding Heilix path 1 (sent via Aux send 2 to EHX K9 pedal) • VDI 2 - Variax Mag input - single coil electric feeding Heilix path 2. (sent via Aux send 1 to EHX B9 pedal then to GR-55 guitar in) • GR-55 - PCM 1 - Rhodes piano (for example) PCM 2 - String section (for example) NORMAL GUITAR - B9 Organ pedal (through guitar amp and rotary Multi FX) MODEL GUITAR - acoustic guitar (in 12-string or 8va mode to layer with Variax acoustic) ------> GR-55 output into Helix FX return 1&2 feeding Heilix path 3 (then receiving additional Helix processing). • EHX K9 pedal with a Electric Piano sound into Helix Aux input feeding Heilix path 4 (then receiving additional Helix processing). As Iknowathingortwo points out, you can further control the GR-55 via CC#s and 'assigns.' I can then use a combination of Helix Snapshots and HR-55 CTL functions to bring parts in and out.
  16. I am using virtually the same setup: Variax JTV-69s, Helix floor, GR-55 and 3 EHX pedals. I will attach my final wiring diagram as pdf below. This details every connection I used in my pedalboard setup. Here's a description of how I am using it. I currently have my Helix patches configured as four parallel stereo paths: • Path 1: JTV-69 Magnetic pickups (via VDI cable) -> EHX LesterG rotary pedal (via FX send/return 3&4) • Path 2: JTV-69 Variax models (via VDI cable) OR used as a "1B' path inserted from Path 1. • Path 3: EHX Key9 pedal set to Suitcase Rhodes (via FX send 3, return to aux input) • Path 4: GR-55 guitar synth (vix FX return 1&2) (Note: I have FX send 4 feeding an EXH B9 pedal patched into a HACKED guitar INPUT on the GR-55. I also have the Helix AMP control out patched into a HACKED input for remote toggling of the GR-55's CTL pedal.) • Expression 1 = Gtr volumes • Expression 2 (switched internal) = Wah or other special effect • Expression 3 = LesterG variable rotary speed (pedal's Exp. IN) • Stereo Volume 4 = path: GR55 -> iC Audio4+ -> Vol pedal -> FX ret 1&2. Thus I have four different signal paths going at once, each with their own choice of Helix FX. • The iC Audio4+ allows me to add 2 additional audio inputs if desired, plus use direct lightening I/O connections to my iPad or iPhone. It also provides extra MIDI I/O as wells USB. • I pulled two 4 point TRS I/O modules from a studio patch bay, velcro'd them to my pedalboard and used them to provide remote access points to Helix I/O. • Similarly, I used extension cables to provide access to the Helix's XLR outputs and the USB port. The Helix is VERY powerful. Here's photos of my pedalboard (as well as under the hood). Helix Pedalboard planning-v4.pdf
  17. Greetings Helix community, I use the Helix's Ext Amp feature to change the state on an external device. I would like to be able to be able to trigger a change of that state via Helix's Ext Amp feature within Snapshots. However, the Ext Amp parameters on the Command Center page do not facilitate the assignment of that parameter (via [bracketing] ) to Snapshot control. What am I missing? Is this not possible?! To add a wrinkle, my external device uses its key input to toggle its state internally, so the Helix switch must only function as a momentary controller (not a toggle). This may complicate the above issue. (In order to accomplish this on a stomp switch, my work around has been to assign a "dummy" block to the stomp switch and set that block to momentary. This works fine. Otherwise, the Helix stomp switch and the external device will both be in a toggling mode, the net result of which means that it requires 2 presses of the Helix stomp switch to cycle toggle states on the external device.) Thanks for your help!
  18. Check to see if there is a software menu preference toggling between MIDI Out and MIDI Out/Thru
  19. Use snapshots to set up different input block/gain settings for different guitars within a single preset. Double check that the noise gate isn't killing the input/volume of your Strat. If it was setup for a really hot hum bucker, a single coil will have a difficult time exceeding the threshold.
  20. I purchased the Aspen Pitman Spacestation V3 and could not be happier! It's half the price of the Mission Gemini 2. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Spacestation3 The most surprising thing was that when I A/B'd it with my (long time fave) Mesa 2:Fifty power amp & stereo Fender cabinet, the Spacestation sounded far better! Was even warmer tone. I could not believe it. I have A/B'd the Mesa/Fender rig against many others over the years and it has always come out on top (but I hate gigging with it because it's so damned heavy). I am the music minister for a church where the sanctuary seats 700. The Spacestation fills that space well especially since it radiates sound 360 degrees if you set it to. It really is 3 dimensional sound. Check out the YouTube videos about it, but especially this one: https://youtu.be/GUKcNbvbme8 Here's another with a Helix: https://youtu.be/X1xhSN_Fio4
  21. I just tried to do so. The offer is only valid via a call or in store (no web sales). I called in and was told the Helix is excluded from this (and all) sales promotions. When I mentioned that I had seen this posting they replied that the salmon most have made an error. Congrats on your good fortune!
