  1. I'm curious if there's something I'm missing out on...Do unrealistic expectations and the inevitable avalanche of chronic disappointment and dashed hopes that always accompany them, somehow translate into "fun"? Is there joy to be found in bemoaning the fact that a faceless, emotionless company isn't meeting your needs fast enough? Maybe I don't get it because nobody was handing out Participation Trophies when I was a kid...boo hoo. If you buy a Honda Civic, you're never gonna wake up to a monster truck in the driveway...but no matter, let's blame Honda anyway.
  2. I don't get it either. All you need to check yourself against a metronome are ears.
  3. Yes. The Standard is not a 69. It's basically a Yamaha Pacifica with Variax guts..."official" proclamations to the contrary notwithstanding. They wanted a Variax at a lower price-point than the JTVs, and this is it. Never seen a Standard in person, but I'm guessing the 4th knob is for the alt tunings (like the "wheel" on the 69 that I mentioned).
  4. Every 69 I've seen has 3 knobs: volume, tone, and model-select, plus the alt tuning "wheel" above the neck pickup...not really a "knob" in the traditional sense.
  5. Well for a hundred bucks, it's certainly worth a try...whatever the frequency response of those are, it's gonna be flatter and broader than a guitar cabinet. True FRFR? Probably not, but "close enough for gov't work" ;), and it should certainly give you an idea of how a FRFR rig responds. Figure out if its for you before dropping big $$ on the expensive stuff.
  6. True. Unless you're an incredibly simple rhythm, you'll have a hard time picking out individual notes, even with a crystal clean tone...straight quarter notes, you could probably pick out, as there would be slightly more defined peaks and valleys than on this example, but with a distorted guitar, forget it.
  7. Short answer is you can't. At least not with a traditional guitar amp. They're all gonna sound different, just the way it is. The closest you'll ever get to the "natural" sound of the unit is any of the various FRFR options out there...and even then, there will be some differences from one speaker to another, although those differences will be more subtle than what you'll get from 2 different guitar amps.
  8. Of course they are. It's obvious, even to the legally blind. Standby for your assessment to be officially poo-pooed, though...along with the "it's a L6 design" proclamation. ;)
  9. I don't see a problem. Looks more or less like every track I've ever recorded, regardless of the DAW or other gear involved. I've used everything from Garageband to ProTools. Unless you really zoom in on a small section, that's what they look like.
  10. Looks like a bunch of dead pixels to me. It's up to you of course, but if there are no functional issues, I'd leave it be...these screens ain't exactly hi-def, so it's not like your missing much. Anyplace you take it for service, you're looking at couple of weeks minimum turnaround, and it could easily be longer. The odds of the shop having a replacement screen laying about is basically zero. You'll end up waiting for L6 to send them one, unless you send it back to the mother ship, then you're paying the freight, extra wait time for transit, etc etc.
  11. Lol... You do need to have an account to download software, but I think that's as far as it goes.
  12. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt that's the case. Most people never bother to register the stuff they buy. In fact, with the exception of a pricey laptop, I can't think of hardly any other electronic device or appliance that I've ever bothered to register...unless I actually needed service. And making registration a requirement in order to access the basic functionality of a product is not exactly what I'd call "user friendly".
  13. Well look at it this way...you dumped over $6K on gear... For another 1%, pick up a pair of these: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/K240S You won't find a better set for $70.00. Been using them forever, proven design, they're in studios everywhere.
  14. A place where the beer flows like wine...;)
  15. Ahh, the good old days...last saw them at The Penny Arcade, tiny little club right on Lake Ontario, north of Rochester, NY. Musta been '93/'94-ish. Ugh...time is the worst, lol.
  16. Be thankful that you were spared participation in the first wave of performances of the "Where's My Helix Symphony", in A minor. Those threads, and their accompanying tales of woe lasted for months....
  17. I wouldn't say that...unless we're talking about wedge monitors designed for stage use. There are plenty of powered near-field monitors that won't break the bank, or take up too much real estate. Plus, why get involved with needing a separate power amp? I love my JBL's (I forget the model # at the moment). 5" drivers...small, but plenty of low end for the living room, and they are very close to what I get from my L2T, tone-wise. They won't melt concrete, but you don't need or want that sitting on the couch anyway.
  18. It was a longshot anyway. These guitars can have all sorts of weird issues...and based on the anecdotal evidence that shows up here on the forum, they fall into 2 basic categories: the ones that function flawlessly, and those that don't. Unfortunately, if it's an electronic issue, it's gonna be very difficult for you to troubleshoot, and even harder to do anything about if/when you figure it out. You may be stuck shipping it somewhere for service.
  19. Ok, so by now you've figured out that the USB dongle sucks, and is wildly unreliable. If you have access to one, you can connect to Workbench through a POD...infinitely more stable connection. I gave up on the dongle long ago.
  20. Some halls are bigger than others. Life just ain't fair... ;)
  21. But only on 1 string? If the pickup is too close to the A string, then absent a rip in the space/time continuum, it's gonna be too close to the other 5 too...and I'd think the higher strings would have a worse artifact, no? Less mass, more pull from the magnets...
  22. I doubt it. I don't think it's a mechanical issue, or you'd hear it everywhere. These guitars get weird...you could try replacing the piezo, but I'm skeptical. If the piezo was the problem, I would think you'd hear it with or without the alt tunings.
  23. I hear it, but not on every note you play. Seems to come and go. Even odder that it only affects the one string. If you don't hear it at all in standard tuning, then it's probably not the piezo itself, otherwise you'd hear it on everything, alt tuning or not. That leaves a signal processing issue...not likely a user serviceable problem. Time to find a service center.
