Almost impossible to answer, unfortunately. Moving from a traditional guitar cab to running straight to the PA generally requires quite a bit of tweaking...and the mic/cab models that gives you the tone you want won't necessarily be similar to the "real" stuff in your rig, or be the "obvious" choices. There are a couple of 2x12 cab models in there, so you could start there...but you could easily find that the giant 4x12 XXL model gives you what you want. Same goes for the mics...you might have been using a 57 to mic your cabs on stage your whole life, but that one might not work for you with this application. The modeling world gets weird...trying out various combos is really the only way to find out.

They're more likely to hire you a 24/7 personal masseuse, along with a lifetime supply of tequila.

Well, depends on who's doing it. When it's the gov't, it's called "progress". When it's a private company, it's code for "throw that out and buy our new stuff". Either way, you lose. Strap in...life is a bumpy ride. ;)

Rollback From Flash V2.1 To V1.9
cruisinon2 replied to jegler's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Lol, this place fascinates me. It's not every day that you get to see a conversation pick up right where it left off 2 years ago, as if it had been 5 minutes...;) -
This is why you can never allow singers, or (God forbid) drummers, to make decisions. ;)

[DOUBT] Detune to simulate Eb when in E (half step down)

I love digital fisticuffs....who's next, who's next? !?!?! ;) -
That's usually the case. I'm still waiting for my first retail Variax sighting. Most of the time you're stuck buying online. Find a place with a liberal return policy in case you don't like it. Sweetwater is good that way. As you said, the necks are entirely subjective. The 59's are generally described as being "chunky". I hated the neck on my 69...fortunately, Strat necks are a drop-in replacement, so that was easily remedied with a Warmoth neck.

I dunno...I've never used Firehawk, and anything wireless can potentially have connectivity issues, but I've never really had problems with dropped Bluetooth connections, or devices not "seeing" each other. From desktop speakers, to a tiny little Bluetooth adapter with 1/8" stereo plug about the size of a thumb drive (very handy...essentially turns anything with an AUX in into a Bluetooth-capable device), to Nolan motorcycle helmets with Bluetooth com-systems. Turn it on, connect, and you're off to the races. I've connected stuff in different rooms and between floors just to see if it would work...am I just lucky?

Need USB Interface
cruisinon2 replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
L6 won't divulge the color of the bathroom tile at corporate HQ... That being said, I cannot fathom that they would leave this out forever...it would aggravate too many Variaxers. -

Get a Variax...the onboard detune FX are always gonna be lackluster for polyphonic stuff. It's really intended for single-note harmonies. Even the dedicated pedals that are supposed to produce polyphonic de-tuning, aren't all that great at it. A Variax is your best bet, as the piezo outputs are isolated, so the tracking is better...but even that design is not without it's problems. -
USB is USB. Get a printer cable.

Make Your Variax Sound 100% Better
cruisinon2 replied to katiekerry's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I don't claim "expert" status on anything in particular...but I do know that piezos are ultra-sensitive compared to a mag pickup. Fret buzz, or anything else that rattles, pings, rubs, or vibrates can yield unpleasant artifacts with the modeling. There's an epic-length thread in here titled "Do you have the same problem with the 6th string?" (or something like that), where the dreaded "piezo plink", and the lack of a "cure" for same is still being discussed ad nauseum...give it a read, as long as you're not busy for a month or so, lol. ;) -
Make Your Variax Sound 100% Better
cruisinon2 replied to katiekerry's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If you're using alt tunings, yes...but good intonation won't help the models sound "more" like what they're supposed to be, and will neither help nor hinder "plink" issues. -
Just Threw Down
cruisinon2 replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Unless I'm mistaken, Variax integration is supposed to be coming in a Helix firmware update. Eventually you should be able to connect to Workbench through Helix, just as we can with the PODs. And if they're not planning to add that feature, it's absurd...might wanna hang in there for a bit. -
Any time you change what you're playing through, there will be a difference in tone. Doesn't much matter if its a POD, Helix, or any of the world's other modelers. Everybody seems to love HELIX's UI, so you may find it easier to create your patches than on the POD (which certainly isn't the most intuitive device in the universe). But I don't care what you're running it through, if you switch to another amp/FRFR speaker/PA, you have to expect some differences. Might be very subtle, or it could kick you in the face...it'll depend entirely on the two rigs in question, and exactly how different their frequency responses are. Either way, it's about the speakers and the room you're standing in, not the modeler. They're all gonna do it. I'll be the first in line for the "tweak-less modeler", if ever there is one. Till then, there is no escape from knobulating...;)

Why you bought a JTV?
cruisinon2 replied to sabastiane's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Jeez....I work all day, and I'm betting you do too. If I had to talk my wife into letting me spend a hundred bucks, it would get spent on a divorce lawyer... Next time you need cash, tell her she has to sell off her shoe collection. -
Ahh the carefree days of granular....oops, I mean grammar school. Freudian slip, sorry...;)

Nylon Stringed Acoustic Sounds

OK, that's impressive...I really need to stop finding things I want. Oh well...just hafta start working 32 hours a day, is all. ;) -

Guitar Strings Loses Intonation?
cruisinon2 replied to guitarplaya2000's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Not a clue. I've got a 69 with a Warmoth neck on it. If they don't fit, somebody else makes a set of locking tuners that will. It's easy enough to remove one and measure the hole...pretty sure the Planet Waves need a 13/32" diameter. -
Volume affects tone...a lot. A patch will never sound the same at bedroom volume vs. stage volume. Doesn't matter if its an FRFR speaker, a traditional guitar amp, or a kazoo. For the sake of simplicity, I'd leave the FRFR's master volume at 12 o'clock and raise or lower volume as needed from Helix.
-
Folks have been griping about the tone of VDI vs. 1/4" for years. Differences usually get blamed on the impedance of a standard cable vs. VDI...some guys prefer one over the other. The only solution if you hear a huge difference, is tweaking your way out on the Helix.

Well that settles it then. Since nothing anywhere is ever 100% accurate, therfore everything sucks. Everyone give up! Ugh. Best thread, EVER. Lmao...
