  1. Ooooohhh shiiiii..... User error.... I totally forgot I changed the USB in 1/2 Destination parameter a looong time ago to be XLR so it would output to something that wasn't plugged into everything. The update reset that.
  2. Ok! upon further examination it's only when I have pro tools up and running. Helix is set as the playback engine. First setup on the helix I tried was Guitar> fxloop to go to and from my head> USB OUT only in path 1. Path 2 has input set to NONE. 2nd try was going Guitar> fxloop> Path2A> USB out. Anyway it wasn't doing that in 2.21 or whatever the previous version was. Nothing else in my setup changed. edit: if that's not clear, basically any audio output from Pro Tools is going to the 1/4" out.
  3. Tried re-updating. Same issue. Looks like a bug.. I'll put a response in the official bug thread.
  4. It's not as easy when you don't have a mouse. I pretty much have to use 2 hands since it's awkward to do a cntrl click with one on it.
  5. I'm just on my laptop, and don't have a mouse at the moment. It's annoying since I have to cntrl click. How about being able to just select a block and hit delete? Also both editors have been missing undo hot keys which would be handy at times.
  6. New editor seems to be missing the X to delete a block like the old one had. I seem to have to cntrl+click > Clear Block to delete anything. Can we bring back the simple X (kill) button?
  7. Hi! So my setup is Guitar>helix>fx loop to real amp> back to helix> laptop to record In 2.2-whatever the previous version was, I could set the output to USB and it would only send an out signal to my laptop. In 2.30 however I'm getting output from both the USB and the 1/4" out which is going into my amps FX Loop return when I have the OUT set to USB on the Helix. I know I could just unplug the 1/4" to kill the output back to my amp, but then it's annoying if I want to switch to my live patches on my helix since I'd have to plug it back in every time. Seems like a bug to me. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks!
  8. I'm flipping both on and off, and don't really hear a difference. Should I just try to re-install the update, or is there a bug?
  9. Cool yeah, I'll give all those suggestions a go! Thanks a bunch!
  10. oh ok cool, good to know. Yeah the speakers are all 100% brand new. I just bought an orange ppc 2x12 (which is awesome btw.) It probably is just the tubes. I don't think they've been replaced in a couple of years. (I have no idea when my dad last replaced them on this head)
  11. Hi! My dad decided to give me his marshall jcm 2000 dsl since he wasn't using it so I decided to use it for my main amp, and just use the helix for fx. (for now anyway. I might end up going back to going back to my dt25 and just going straight into the fx loop with the helix.) Anyway, I seem to keep blowing fuses about every couple of weeks on this marshall. It's kind of annoying. I have the volume on the helix set to about 4 o'clock (compared to a clock face) That sounds pretty even to going straight in sans helix. Is there a safe way to make sure you're never going in to hot from the helix so I'm not as prone to blowing a fuse, and still keep the volume fairly even to going straight in? Or is this just apart of having a marshall, and I should just stock up on fuses? ha
  12. Ahhhh, ok! Makes sense! Thanks a bunch! That's great info
  13. So.. I moved to a new apartment, and I stupidly have my dt25 power cable mixed in with a bunch of others. I thiiiink it's this one that says MAX10A 125V. Anyone know of the proper cable I need before I go plugging this in willy nilly? thanks!
  14. Lots of great input fellas! Yeah I personally am just dealing with home recording atm since I'm currently without a band. I probably should've mentioned that earlier. @dunedinDragon - yeah I like that combination a lot too. Has a lot of oomf to it.
  15. So most of of the discussions on here are asking about how to get this sound or that sound, or just how to get a good sound period. Most of the responses are usually just "eq it", or "use an IR." I don't really always buy those responses, as I feel like I've been able to get some pretty great sounds for what I want out of the helix just right out of the box without too much hassle. I think a large part of why some people have issues is that they don't understand all of the mic choices, and what/how to use to them put them in a better zone for the tone they want right off the bat. So how about a discussion for what people use when they want a certain sound. Ex) I like the ribbon 121 for modern and fat sounding. (rarely ever use an sm57 on the helix since I feel it's too thin, and tiny in comparison even though it's been a standard for ages). For bass I love the 4038 and 112. The 4038 for something super thick (but i put it 4-6" away depending on what bass I'm playing with to keep it from being too boomy), and the 112 since it's still thick, but has a little more shape to the sound. (for a non scientific explanation) For those that are curious, there are lots of comparison vids on youtube as well that are super informative. Or you can just google "best mics for guitar" or "best mic's for bass guitar" and it's pretty good at giving you the most popular ones for a particular instrument. Anyway, what are your people's go to mics when you're going for a specific sound, and why?
  16. Mics make huge difference. Research what each one is like "real world", and it'll give you a pretty good idea of which ones are good for what. There's no telling what a band actually used in the studio. It's probably a combination of a lot of things. I personally really like the 121 ribbon for something modern and chunky sounding for guitar. For bass the 4038, or 112 etc.. or a combination. Anyway it'll be really tough to duplicate a sound exactly. You're dealing with multiple tracks of a part on an album. Your best bet is to do some kind of dual amp chain, pan one left one right. You might use the same head and cab, but use different mics. etc. There are tons of different ways to thicken up a sound if you're trying to match something on an album. If I were you I'd just try and get a really good sound you like, and not worry about matching an album. I mean bands don't even match their sound totally on their albums either.
  17. So not to side track the thread, but i have a question: 've been playing with the Helix/DT setup vs just straight Helix when recording direct. I have to say they're so similar after balancing the levels to be equal that I'm almost contemplating just using the straight Helix when recording. I can't really say one is better than the other... just slightly different. Is anyone else have a drastic difference? Or is everyone maybe getting a 10% difference between the two when recording direct? I've currently opted for the 4 cable method after trying a bunch of different routing techniques.
  18. You can just do a reset on the DT if you want to revert to the original midi settings. It's super quick. http://line6.com/media/dt50/DT_MIDIGuide_v2_0_RevA_English.pdf page 1.2
  19. Does anyone know if there's a list of what helix amps go in which topology category? ex) all brits probably go in topology II, and the A30 & 15's go in III, and US amps go in I, high gains go in IV etc.. I know everyone just uses what they think sounds best, but it would be nice to know what kind of category they traditionally go in.
  20. Can we just sticky this thread since it's such a common question?
  21. I actually used to do this on my podxt, and an old flextone II. Granted no tubes, but it used all the modelling from the XT and used the flextone as the power amp section. Sounded great at the time for such a cheap setup. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get a helix after looking through the threads a bit more. Seems like a fairly painless integration. I'll just have to remember to turn everything back on in the DT if I ever decide to sell it. ha I kind of wish someone would sticky the 2 main integration methods so DT users don't have to search through a bunch of threads.
  22. Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this is what I had in mind. I'm currently running my HD500+ dt-25. I use the direct out on my dt25, but i have a Rock crusher and just squash the sound to the cab when recording so it's not outputting any sound, but it still uses the tubes on the dt-25 on the direct out. (I do it that way since having it in standby mode doesn't use the tubes, and i don't want to kill my neighbors) Sounds amazing right? It's like night and day when using the tubes vs without. I want to do the same with the helix. Use the helix as the preamp +fx etc.., but use the tubes on the DT. Seems like supplies for the helix are low in Canada so I may have to get one without getting to test it out first. Do you have any simple test clips to check out? I'm having a heck of a time finding clips of your kind of setup, and I'm hesitant to pull the trigger without getting to put my hands on it first but it looks like that's my only option right now.
  23. True, but you can't really kill the volume to the cab without killing the volume for the direct out with those unless I'm mistaken. Granted I haven't looked at all the new features of Helix. Maybe you can do that with it? I guess you could just not plug the POD/Helix into the FX Loop Return of the amp and that may work. Then it would get the input of the amp, and just not send it back..I guess? But then i don't think there's a way to use the amp bypass, and just use the cab sims on the pods/helix. So that doesn't really work either. So see what I'm getting at here? If you want to record direct with a non line6 amp, and not have it output full volume to your cab you can't do it as of right now unless you can with the Helix or unless I'm missing something with the POD's.
