  1. Well said and I was unaware that there was actually a name for this tendency (Godwin's Law). How unsurprising this would come from one of the pair claiming moral superiority and political correctness while exhibiting neither.
  2. Yep, the instructions recommend closing all software "or" disconnecting your device(s) after doing the backups and before running the new version of the Updater. This probably should have said "and" instead of "or" but probably a good idea to disconnect all devices first anyway just to be thorough.
  3. Has it occurred to you that they may not have immediately announced it intentionally for perfectly good reasons that might for example include allowing the folks who upgrade first to report back with tips and help on what to expect and how to navigate the update before having everyone jump in en masse? Makes sense to me, helpful for the download servers as well so they don't get hammered. They know from former updates that the word will get out anyway, this just provides a little breathing room. Half of them are probably at NAMM today anyway. I would be very surprised if this was an oversight. Wouldn't hurt to lighten up and ask some questions before flaming out.
  4. Helpful link for Helix rack users experiencing a prolonged lockup that has not resolved after being given adequate time (at least 30 minutes?).
  5. Out of my feedback allotment for the day but +1 to this. And by "some time" he means be prepared for it to go blank on you for a while. When Line6 says they are updating the core they don't mess about. The nano-mites need time to reconfigure your Helix for the new quantum computing requirements. :-)
  6. First off exit HX Edit. It will interfere with the Updater's ability to see the Helix. Also, did you download the "HX Edit Version 2.80" file? This will ensure that you have the correctly matched versions of "HX Edit", driver, and the Updater. They will all be in this file when you unzip/unpack it.
  7. HX Edit 2.8, the 2.8 firmware, and Native 1.8 are now available for download. Make backups before you download or change anything. For folks new to upgrading a Helix family device do yourselves a favor and scroll down below the "Flash Memory" link on the downloads page and instead download "HX Edit"(version 2.80). This file will have all three matching components(Updater, driver, HX Edit) when it is unzipped/unpacked and then installed. This will save you a lot of headaches. Don't download the components separately for anything other than archive purposes or if you need to do an offline install. Also a friendly reminder that the new Native 1.8 version is available as well, you will need to download Native separately. Follow the update instructions to the letter. You can't have enough backups. Might want to email a backup to yourself on the remote chance that your computer's hard drive gakks mid-update or you lose track of your backups or replace your computer in the future.
  8. Stating the obvious with a profound sense of discovery but 2.8 is now available on the download page. Anyone having a successful upgrade experience (ye bold bleeding edgers)? Please let us know, especially if you had to do something outside of the update instructions to get it working. Thanks!
  9. Hopefully you have backups as some of these wipe out presets but I would start rolling through the global reset options for your device. Edited: There were some excellent solutions added after I posted this initially so please look at phil_m and some of the other posters' solutions before you resort to global reset options. These are for when all else fails. 10. Wouldn't it be more accurate to characterize "verbal masturbation" as trying to get everyone else to shut up while only you speak? :-) Using sexual innuendo and accusing everyone of being "ladies" (intended as a derogatory term) is what I would deem "control freak" with the emphasis on freak, with a little sexism thrown in for good measure. Probably inaccurate too as women might well be having a more civil conversation. Can you honestly exhort everyone else to keep it professional while simultaneously using tactics like this? We get it already. Different people pursue different strategies when they are waiting. Some converse and attempt to entertain and others kick and bite and try and get things to pop off, some do both simultaneously. You appear to be in the middle group but ultimately we are all just waiting together. You are in the "club" too. Your particular form of preferred entertainment just involves a much more contentious exchange and unsurprisingly you are getting your wish. Mere friendly banter interspersed with technical conversation when the opportunity arises isn't cutting it for you. You need some blood in the water if you're gonna make it to the firmware release. Food fight! Paradoxically that's argumentative but also diverting while waiting. Sorry to tell you but even this is fun while we stand in line. Perhaps not your intended consequence. Man all of this is just so predictable. Line6 has got to be thinking "yikes let's get this firmware out before things get really ugly" in between laughing their a$$es off at these utterly pointless conflicts. Your posts at least elicit some funny responses so thanks for that anyway. Peace!
  11. Btw, no worries, you can't delete an effect although you can clear a preset by copying a blank or another preset over it.
  12. As has been their practice in general with the Helix line Line6 has opted to provide maximum flexibility and choices for their users. They could have made the upgrade process just automatically overwrite the Factory and Template setlists with the new ones but many people customize these presets. Doing that would have overwritten their edits. Perhaps in the future they may want to provide an option to do this in the upgrade screens. For now Line6's provision of detailed and in my opinion fairly clear update instructions provides users with more options but does require more attention to detail during the upgrade process so I'm glad they made it "scary". Backups, backups, backups. Don't want to see anyone left without the presets they have spent so much time on after the upgrade. Agree, the keyboard integration is awesome!
  13. Wanted to also second BBD_123's suggestion to get your signal chain as direct as possible with no external pedals for the duration of the testing just to isolate where the issue is coming from. Probably not the issue but if this is going to a tube amp I might also check for a microphonic tube. Lots of videos on Youtube on how to do this. Essentially just involves lightly tapping your tubes with a pencil or chopstick.
  14. Needed to follow my own advice to read through the entire upgrade document, my proofing seem to be incremental on this one. Just noticed that "STEP 5A" is essentially a variation and alternate method on what I posted above. I hope some folks will find my instructions and the screenshot a helpful addendum (assuming this method still works in the 2.8 editor). I have to say this is by far the most comprehensive set of upgrade instructions Line6 has ever released for the Helix line. I like it! After your posts regarding the new tweaked Factory presets as well as the new Templates for controlling DAWS, etc. I would guess a lot of folks will want to load these new setlists up.
  15. Not sure after DI's post about the doc update whether to credit him or Line6Tony with authorship but in either case just wanted to give everyone a heads up to read through the entire thing. You'll notice if you scroll all the way through the doc that the backups are only Step#1. As you would expect there are several other steps following the backups required to complete the upgrade detailed in this document. There are also some optional steps you can execute towards the end of the document depending on for example if you want to load the 2.80 Factory and Templates presets. I think many people will want to execute this optional step to load at least the 2.80 Templates presets as this is where you will find the new "Software Remote Templates for controlling DAWs, YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, and other applications via USB". Note the warning in red on this optional step regarding backups before loading the 2.8 Factory and Templates setlists as loading them will wipe out all your custom user setlists as well. Personally I would take another backup at this point before executing this optional step. Btw, curious if there are any new Factory presets in this firmware release? Need to follow my own advice about reading through the entire document, the following essentially details option "STEP 5A" and provides an alternate method, some may find the screenshot helpful. For anyone who wants to execute the optional step (currently "STEP 4") in the 2.80 release update instructions and load the new 2.8 Factory and/or Template presets here is a screenshot of how after you have executed the global reset and completed that step and your user presets have been cleared, HX Edit's "Restore From Backup" screen can be used (at least in the current 2.71 version of HX Edit) to restore everything else from a backup but not overwrite your brand spankin' new 2.8 Factory and Template setlists with the moldy old ones from the backup you are using for your restore. Phew! Talk about a run-on sentence. Select "Restore From Backup" under "File" on the main HX Edit menu Select the backup to restore from the dialog box at the top Use the arrow to expand the "Presets" box Uncheck the FACTORY 1, FACTORY 2, and/or TEMPLATES boxes Click the "Restore Backup" button
  16. Nice catch, and hopefully that edit makes it in, thanks! Overall though a well done document.
  17. I saw you tried lowering the gain, have you tried using the input pad? Maybe the input signal coming in from the guitar is too hot. Are you using "Line" or "Instrument" level? You mention that you swapped out the guitar, have you tried swapping your cables as well, both from the guitar and to the amp. Also, does this happen on factory presets as well as your own? If it only happens on your own presets maybe there is a parameter in one of your blocks that is not interacting well with your gear.
  18. Thanks for putting this out there. That is an excellent set of instructions from Line6Tony. Nice job!
  19. In addition to the fine suggestions above you may want to try selecting one of the wahs with the 'FC Low' and 'FC High' parameters. I generally shy away from a lot of high end coming through the wah as I move toward the toe down position. Try playing with the the 'FC High' parameter in particular and dialing it down a bit to narrow the frequency range. That tends to give it a more vocal like quality and helps me stay in the "sweet spot" that I prefer on the wah. Since this is all subject to personal taste use your ears to get it to the settings you prefer. The link below from Dunlop can be kind of handy to see what the frequency range is for a variety of different wahs and includes a description of the sound and intended use for each wah. I wouldn't hesitate though to stray outside/inside of the frequency ranges listed on the Dunlop page if it sounds right to you. I should note that I have found on occasion, depending on the sound of the overall preset, that dialing down the 'FC High' parameter too much can sound great at home and sound a bit buried when you are in the band mix so I would test my settings at rehearsal to make sure you are still able to cut through. https://www.sweetwater.com/feature/dunlop/wah-pedals/index.php
  20. Always nice when issues spontaneously resolve, hopefully never to reoccur. Glad you got it worked out.
  21. Obscure "Fifth Element" reference, what a great flick!
  22. LOL, concision was never my thing.
  23. I try to stay out of these disagreements generally but this is just a disgustingly cynical and manipulative invocation of some genuinely laudable principles to serve your own ends. Those ends appear to be an intense need to control others and get attention. You have now essentially called everyone a racist, ageist, and abuser of people with disabilities because they did not stick to your unrealistically rigid view that this should be a strictly technical conversation. Any genuine advocate of these principles of tolerance, unity, and equal access would never degrade them and reduce their future effectiveness for such a trivial purpose as imposing their own myopic will on a forum. This kind of selfishness is exactly the behavior that robs worthy principles of support and reduces them to the status of "snowflake". I believe using them in this manner demonstrates a fundamental lack of comprehension of or adherence to these values. A self-serving appeal to these principles for no purpose other than to get others in this forum to comply with you is irresponsible and completely lacking credibility, If you observe most forums you will notice that there tends to be an almost organic ebb and flow to many topics. In this case because the new firmware has become a bit of a waiting game there have been some welcome distractions and digressions along the way as the topic could not possibly sustain only a technical conversation for this duration with so little information available. This organic process also seems to unfortunately often include at least one person who feels they know better than everyone else how the topic should be conducted. Nonetheless, despite the risk of being no more than a cliche you charge into things and attempt to redefine courtesy and etiquette as requiring everyone to accede to your ridiculous commands to shut up and stand up straight in line when you could instead simply meander over to the links with which you were courteously provided that better suit your stated interest and temperament. That indeed would have been real courtesy instead of berating everyone else. Your posts remind me of a a certain personality type - it is a type abhorrent to most artists and musicians as it seeks to control, stifle, and smother. I hope you prove me wrong if you continue to post in this forum. Anyway, you are entitled to state your opinion and I hope you find a way to do it in the future without implying everyone else is some kind of immoral something"ist" for not agreeing with you over such a petty matter. I appreciate everyone who has shown patience, humor, and provided welcome diversion while we wait for the next firmware. Party on!
  24. A couple of things come to mind here. first is what are the compressor settings? You could be gating/limiting the sound depending. Is the Type = "Compress" on the LA Comp? What are the PeadReduc and Level set to? Also, is this something that happens when you are switching between snapshots or just presets? Is it bypassed in any of the snaps or presets?
