  1. Good morning all! I started having the following issue with my Helix ever since the v3.5 update: I've been using my Helix (Rack) in 4CM with a Line 6 DT25 amp for about a year, also connected via MIDI to send messages changing preamp models, Drive level, and Channel Volume. It works great, sounds killer - love it all around. On Saturday Nov 19 toward the end of rehearsal I had a problem where the amp suddenly started emitting a loud "OOOOOOO", low-frequency feedback-type noise. I immediately shut it off and we ended rehearsal early. I dropped the amp off at my tech later that week but he has not yet tested it. Saturday Nov 26 we had a gig, and I played using the same setup with a different amp (I have three DT25s - one head and two 1x12 combos), and in the middle of our first set the same thing happened again. I shut off the amp and finished the set using just the Helix. At the end of the set I turned the amp back on and did a quick test, and everything was working fine. I went back to using the DT for the second set and had no issues. Last night I was playing (with the same DT25 head), and it happened a third time. Because this happened three times with two different amps in a span of 20 days, and the Helix was the common denominator in all three instances, we're starting to think that it is the culprit (if the DT25 combo passes bench test it will be an even more compelling indictment of the Helix). Only two things in my setup have changed prior to the onset of this behavior: - I updated to v3.5 on Saturday Nov 5. - I used to use separate Send and Return blocks to go through the amp (for no reason other than ignorance). I changed all my patches to utilize a single FX Loop block just to clean up the path, free up space, etc. That said, last night I changed all my patches back to separate Send/Return blocks, and the problem occurred again AFTER I had done this. Per my amp tech: "The firmware upgrade may have loaded an error that's producing a random command to link an input and output which would cause an electronic feedback loop which would produce the howl. Imagine sticking a PA microphone directly in front of the cone of a PA speaker." What's weird is that this happens in the middle of playing - not immediately after making a patch/snapshot change, or something like that. That said, after a year of great, worry-free operation in this setup, followed by three instances of this issue in 20 days following the firmware update, I'm naturally suspicious that something in there is to blame. For now I've downgraded back to v3.15. Any thoughts, similar experience, etc?
  2. I made a boo-boo last night that I'm hoping you guys can tell me was a small one: I've got a DT25 112 that I run in 4CM with my Helix. When I play at home I usually connect a second 8-ohm speaker cab, so I connect that (as well as the internal speaker) into the two 4-ohm speaker outs. We played a gig last night; I did not bring the second cab with me but forgot to move the internal speaker over to an 8-ohm output jack. Our set was about 75 mins and I was running in Low-Volume mode (no idea if that makes any difference). The amp sounded great as always and made it through the gig fine (I didn't realize the gaffe until I was setting things up back at home this morning). Could I have potentially done any damage to the amp or is it OK?
  3. The footswitch for the Catalyst works. The only weird thing was that on the second button (which turns reverb on/off) the LED would be ON when reverb was off, and OFF when reverb was on. I actually ended up returning it and getting a basic one-button switch from an Etsy seller, 'cause who in their right mind would ever turn their reverb off anyway :)
  4. I've noticed strange behavior from my DT25 that I've seen discussed in some previous threads but thought I'd start a fresh one. The short version is that, when switching between Low Volume Mode on and off, depending on which preamp model you're using some are actually LOUDER with LVM turned ON than they are when it's OFF, which is strange. I do not believe this to be a hardware issue/defect, as I have two DT25s (a head and a 1x12 combo) and they both do this. I first noticed this when I started using the DT in 4CM with my Helix. I'm using Snapshot mode and have some presets where I will change preamp models on the DT between Snapshots. The first gig I played I noticed that the levels between Snapshots on a few patches were not properly balanced at all. In the days following the gig I double-checked them at home and got everything set. Next gig, same thing. Checked them all again after the gig. Next gig - SAME THING. What I ultimately realized was that the ONLY difference between when I was playing/level-matching at home vs playing at a gig was that LVM was ON at home and OFF at the gig. Sure enough, I switch to one of the problem Presets/Snapshots, switch LVM OFF, and the volume went DOWN. In order to prevent further issues at future gigs I've pretty much decided to just leave LVM on all the time, since I play more at home than I do live and personally I think the amp sounds its best with LVM on and the Master around 2-3 o'clock anyway. From what I can tell it seems to primarily affect the lower-gain amp models. If I'm using the Treadplate model for example, switching LVM on and off results in the volume changing exactly as you'd expect. But if I'm using something like the Gibtone or the Tweed B-Man Normal, the amp gets quieter when LVM is turned OFF. Anyone else experience this?
  5. I have a feeling this is correct. Older thread, I know, but one I'm just getting involved in. Let me start by saying I have two DT25s (a head and a 1x12 combo) and they BOTH do the following (I'll provide a bit of background/context): I got the DT25 head about a year and and have been using it as just a power amp (via L6 Link) to power my Helix. I recently decided to experiment with using the DT as my actual guitar amp and the Helix for FX only via 4-cable method (and also as a MIDI controller for the DT). It sounds AWESOME. The first time I gigged with it in this configuration, I noticed that a bunch of my presets/snapshots were not properly level balanced (after seemingly having got them all properly balanced at home). So I did some tweaking before the next gig but had the same problem. Then again at a third gig (which was just this past Friday). What I finally realized was that the only difference between my setup at home and on stage is that Low Volume mode is ON at home and OFF at the gig. Sure enough - I switched to one of my preset/snapshots where I've been having issues, I switched Low Volume mode OFF, and the amp got QUIETER instead of louder. I've also noticed that this seems to only happen with certain preamp models - for example, if I'm using the Treadplate model, the amp behaves exactly as you'd expect it to when switching LVM on and off; however if I use the Tweed B-Man Normal, LVM on is LOUDER than off. So weird... I've been running the amp on Topology I; I don't know if that matters at all since I'm switching preamp models via MIDI from the Helix, but I'm going to switch to one of the other options and see if this still happens. For now my plan is to simply run the amp with Low Volume mode ON all the time. Not only will I get more reliable behavior from my presets in terms of volume, but honestly the amp sounds its best when LVM is on and the Master is around 2-3 o'clock.
  6. I know this is an older thread but I just came across it, as I'm having a similar issue. The short version is that I'm having a problem where the amp gets QUIETER when I switch to Low Volume mode, but it seems to be preamp-model specific. I'm on firmware version 2.0 so I've got 30 preamps to choose from rather than just the Topology I-IV that (I think) was available at the time this thread was started. That said if (for example) I'm using the Treadplate amp and switch Low Volume off, the amp gets louder just as you'd expect. But if I'm using (for example) the Tween B-Man Normal, it gets quieter when I do the same. I should mention that I have two DT25s (a head and a 1x12 combo) and they BOTH do it. A bit more background: I'm using the DT with a Helix - the Helix is connected via 4CM so for effects only (no amp modelling), but also for MIDI switching on the DT (different preamp models for different patches/songs, etc). Whenever I'm playing at home I always run the amp in Low Volume mode, and obviously at home is where I'm creating my presets, level-balancing snapshots, etc, etc. On three separate occasions my band was playing a gig where when I was switching between presets/snapshots on the Helix the balance between them was noticeably off from how I had set it at home. But when I checked again at home after the gig it seemed fine. What I eventually figured out was the only difference between the gig and home was that I switched out of Low Volume mode at the gigs. So today I called up one of the problematic presets (we just had a gig last night), and the balance between snapshots seemed fine (the problem during the gig was that one snapshot was WAY lower than it should have been). I switched Low Volume mode OFF, and the problem snapshot got quieter instead of louder. So I tried one of the other presets - same thing. As I mentioned earlier, it doesn't seem like a problem with the amp because it doesn't do this across all the preamp models (it seems to mainly be the low-gain-type amps). At this point I've pretty much decided I'm just going to run them in Low Volume mode 100% of the time (most of the amps/tones sound better in LVM with the Master around 2-3 o'clock anyway). Thoughts?
  7. I know this is an older thread but I just stumbled upon it today. I'm running a Helix in 4CM with a DT25 head. I've read the comments in this thread (as well as others) regarding the DT modeling (I.E., " the DI emulations coming out of the DT are pretty much that same as what is coming out of the HD500", etc, etc), and to that will say this: for the past year I've been using my Helix connected to the DT via L6 Link (so basically just using the DT as a power amp to drive the cab). I recently decided to experiment with taking the amp models out of my signal chain, use the DT as my actual guitar amp and run 4CM with MIDI to control amp switching on the DT, and it sounds noticeably better - to the point where I'm converting all of my live patches over to this format.
  8. I registered on IdeaScale this morning (about 6 hours ago) and have not yet received the account activation email. Does it normally take this long? Already checked Spam folder, FYI.
  9. Right - I agree with all that. All I'm saying is that L6 Link let's you control/switch Topology settings (maybe "Voicings" is a better word for what I'm referring to) on Channel A but not on Channel B, and it doesn't make any sense to me why that would be.
  10. Not what I mean, no. Per Helix firmward v2.8 release notes: when the Helix is connected to the DT via L6 Link, the DT preamp is bypassed when on Channel A for when using an amp/preamp model in Helix. When set to Channel B, the DT switches to Channel B and its preamp is activated. Since the preamp is activated when using Channel B, I would expect the Helix to allow you to control switching through Topology I-IV, but it doesn't. It only lets you switch between Topology options when using Channel A - but when you're on Channel A the preamp is bypassed, so what's the point of that? It should be the other way around. You should be able to switch Topology on Channel B instead of Channel A.
  11. It seems really strange that the Helix controls preamp settings when the preamp is bypassed, but doesn't when the preamp is active. Doesn't make much sense.
  12. So you're thinking it's a bug with the Helix or with the DT?
  13. Good evening group. I have a DT25 head that I've been using with my Helix for about a year now and love it. I typically run the DT on Channel A so it's just acting as a power amp to send the Helix out to my cab and it sounds terrific. I started looking into some other set-up options and came across the following in the forum (which I already knew): When set to Channel A, the DT switches to Channel A and its preamp is bypassed for when using a preamp model in Helix. When set to Channel B, the DT switches to Channel B and its preamp is activated TIP: Assign a stomp footswitch (or snapshots) to simultaneously bypass a Helix preamp block AND switch a connected DT amp to Channel B. This gives you a wider variety of tones in the same preset, without the DSP overhead required to run two simultaneous Preamp blocks. The problem I'm having is this: If I'm sitting at my PC using HX Edit, when the DT is set to Channel A and I click through Topology settings I-IV, I see it changing on the DT as I'm doing it. When I switch to Channel B, it doesn't. I would have expected the opposite to happen, since on Channel A the preamp is bypassed, but on Channel B it's not. So it seems like if I'm running the Helix into the DT via L6 Link on Channel B, I cannot switch between Topology settings/options. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
  14. Would love to be able to save and recall multiple Global EQ profiles/presets.
  15. Thank you. This was my first feature request; wasn't sure where to go.
  16. Would love an enhancement that would allow Snapshots within a Preset to be drag-and-drop rearranged in HX Edit, the same way Presets within a Setlist can.
  17. I would very much like to see the VU meter functionality expanded in a few ways: (1) I would like the meters to be visible at all times (at least in HX Edit if not on the device itself), not just when the Output Block is selected. If I am running a dual signal path with each path panned L and R, and I want to make sure they are properly level balanced, I can't see the levels for both of them at the same time, because I can only select one Output Block at a time. (2) Ideally the meters would be graduated.

  19. I got a Peavey Bandit 112 back in high school (probably around '95-'96 timeframe) that my brother now has and uses; still works!
  20. I would love to have more flexibility in Output selection via a selection checklist. Currently (unless I'm mistaken) if I'm sending my chain to two outputs I can (for example) select one and only one specific Output for one path (say XLR), and Multi Output for the other (to basically send it everywhere else). What I would prefer would be to have a checklist for each Output so that (for example) I can send one to XLR and Headphones, and the other to 1/4" (or everything else).
  21. Thanks so much for your help; looks like this will work. I've had my Helix for over a year now and I wasn't even aware of the Single vs Dual cab option; never even noticed it before. Thanks again!
  22. Will try this later - thanks. Thinking out loud without having tried this yet, if I want to send the signal to two outputs with the only variation between the two being the cab sim, I would probably need to place the Cab Block as the last block in the chain and split right before that, in order to have everything else also going to both outputs. If I do this, will the Cab Block collapse a stereo signal back to mono the same way an Amp block would, or no? Thanks!
  23. I thought I saw/heard/read somewhere that with Helix you can use cab sims in your signal chain but have it only be applied to certain outputs; so for example, have a cab sim on your XLR outs going to the FOH board, but not on your 1/4" outs going to your power amp/on-stage cab. Is this true, and if so how do you set this up? I've been poking around in HX Edit, Global Settings on the device itself, etc - haven't figured it out yet. Thanks!
  24. I've got a Helix Rack/Helix Control combo and am looking for suggestions for a bag/case for the Control (Rack is in a custom head enclosure with power amp/power conditioner). I like Gator stuff but their two closest bags are 15" and 24" (Helix Control is just over 17"). Worst case scenario I get the bigger bag and stuff the sides to keep it secure but I'm wondering if anyone has found anything that's a better fit and protects the unit well. I've heard good things about the Helix Backpack but was hoping to spend less than that. Thanks!
  25. I do not bring HX Edit to a gig. I typically try to have all my patches prepared before a gig, and do the vast majority of my patch creating/editing at my PC rather than on the front face of the device. The sound guy at the venue isn't the issue. If you were using a traditional pedal board and for example had a second drive pedal for a lead boost, wouldn't you try to set the output on that pedal to the appropriate level for its intended purpose? If you engaged that pedal and it was too loud would you just say "eh - that's the sound guy's problem"? I try my best to have the unit set up, prior to a gig, so that clean tones, driven rhythm tones, lead tones, etc, are all appropriately balanced with respect to one another. The sound guy can set the guitar where it needs to be and the patches can take care of themselves, rather than him having to ride the fader all night.
