I don't think I've noticed that...but I have my stuff arranged where different setlists are different types of presets.... setlist 1 is templates, setlist 2 are my 'stock/core' sounds, setlist 3 is song presets, setlist 4 is downloaded presets...I've copied from my setlist 2 to setlist 3 and made changes to the setlist 3 versions and not noticed anything updating in setlist 2....and also when making changes to Setlist 2, it doesn't seem to affect setlists 1/2 either. But I agree, this could be a useful feature if there was a way to mark a preset as global, or when choosing to save, you could have a feature to 'update all presets with same name'

The one thing that really drives me nuts about the Helix

Hmm interesting...that may be the best workaround for me. I'll have to check that out. -
So decided to add the looper to my acoustic patch last night as there is a song or two it would be fun to mess with the crowd of me stopping playing....but the guitar keeps going. However when I tried it out, the recorded playback was significantly quieter than the 'live' sound. what am I missing? It seems the levels in the looper block are maxed out at 0.0db, and I can only reduce them. I am using the 6 button looper FYI. I haven't quite mastered the 1 button looper yet, as I'm a newb.

I could be wrong, but I thought I remember somewhere reading in a thread that the issue with the editor only implementation is that the editor doesn't have the blocks stored in its programming that it reads the information from the Helix...So that might be a roadblock to having it an editor only option. it would have to be implemented into the Helix software, which the editor would access then. -

that is fair...right now I'm going through a transition with my presets. I just recently did some new 'core' tones (clean/gritty/classic/crunch/HG crunch/Modern/hard rock/hard rock scoop), these are all dry presets other than reverb and delay (for the lead versions of these). Off of my core sounds I then copy paste them into the song specific presets and add the song specific effects. I suppose I could just save an 80's template and such....I just think it'd be as easy to create from scratch by right clicking on the spot I want the block and choosing Amps>Fender Deluxe Clean, Effects > Chorus > Clean Chorus, or Pitch> Whammy > 2 octave dive mostly not much of a difference...to me it'd be easier to call up the effects blocks verses saving a ton of presets. -

Yeah where I create presets per song (68+songs for our band) and then use snapshots to turn things on/off....it'd be nice to save an 80's Chorus, Lead Delay, 2204 80's Crunch, SLO Lead or whatever, and just drop in the presaved settings idea. Instead of having to find the right preset, copy, go back to the 'new' preset, paste, then save, then back to another preset with another effect I like and repeat as needed. -

Yeah that ability on the Boss Units to have 'Global settings' saved for different effects and such really makes editing easy. Its nice to setup 10 amp sounds, wahs/chorus/ etc, and they just reference that saved slot. Any changes are made to any preset that references that saved file. -
IR's are the same as the 'cab' block. They just have everything 'baked in' as opposed to being able to change the cab type, mic type, mic distance, etc. So instead of having access to those parameters, you'd have an IR file for a Marshall 4x12/SM57 2"off axis, another file might be the same but slightly different of Marshall 4x12/MD421 2"off axis. Every IR file is a different setting for cab/mic/speaker distance

Yeah the Fractal has that feature and even the Boss GT series allows you to store 10 presets for every effect type including amps and then recall them from a quick menu. I don't mind copy paste...but when doing so between presets that are separated #wise or in different setlists it can be cumbersome -

Only way to really do this at this time would be to use duplicate blocks with different types selected, dial each in, then toggle them back and forth and keep the one you want. Not always feasible...but that's partially why I'd love the functionality of being able to save 'favorite' block settings. For example, Lead Delay (simple delay), Ambient Delay....and just recall that favorite setting. -
Help a noob - tinny sound with Britt presets.
themetallikid replied to distantoverture's topic in Helix
when you look at the IR block, the top parameter should tell you what slot its referencing, I believe that information is stored in the preset, so if you loaded the IR's into different slots you'll need to adjust what slot the IR block is looking at. -
Help a noob - tinny sound with Britt presets.
themetallikid replied to distantoverture's topic in Helix
My first thought would be... Do the presets use an onboard speaker cab or are they using an IR, and if so....do you have any IR's loaded? If not, even though the IR block is there, its referencing one of the 128 IR slots, but there is no 'file' there so its almost like the IR/Cab block is non existent. To remedy this, I would drop in an 'amp+cab' block for the same amp that the Britt presets use (if there is room in the signal chain, I'm not familiar with those presets) and match the settings in the amp portion but retain the stock cab that it uses. If you bypass the 'Britt' amp/IR and only use the 'Amp+Cab' block and it sounds fine, then I'd bet its an IR/Cab issue. If that sounds the same then I'd lean towards monitoring issues maybe?!? -
That makes total sense, THank you for that!

I recently fell into a tone I really like with the Mark IV, and was using the separate 5 band Mesa EQ block, before I realized it was included in the Amp block as well. Is there any difference between them other than the separate EQ block has a level parameter? I like the eq curve I have, however I also boost the level by 2-2.5db to compensate for the cuts....but I can't do that in the amp version.
-
when stomping on the BPM button, doesn't the bottom row change to show you the bpm rate? I could be mistaken...don't have my Helix in front of me at the moment.
-
I would just copy my presets to another setlist or set of open presets and resave with the different output setting.
-
I do this just in that fashion. I run a preset per song, and use Snapshots to switch parts of the songs. For songs that have multiple amp sounds (clean/dirty), for consistency, I keep Path A as the clean amp, and Path B as the dirty amp.
-
believe you are correct on all of them, the only one I cannot answer is the 4th one. #1 Performance view shows you the button layout for presets/snaps/stomps #2 you can set the view to a combination of several things. I use 4 presets/4 snaps as I don't require more than 4 snaps per song. But there are stomp and other options in that menu. I have a few songs with only one snapshot, but then have a stomp switch (press mode to go into snap mode) that is a momentary switch to turn on my lead sound for some quick runs, rather than doing a click on, click off for the 1.5 second lead fill. When that song is done, I press mode to go back to my 4/4 screen mode. #3 Yes, if you need 8 snaps or 4 snaps/4 stomps or something....and you want to use the up/down buttons to change presets you can do that. That is how I had it setup for awhile as I don't really have a need to jump banks when I was running the 8 snap mode. In the 4/4 mode that I use now, I use the up/down for bank switching as that jumps my setlist 4 songs at a time, which works for us as we call audibles from an 'extra song' list. We play about 40 songs a night off a list of about 85....pending on the crowds. #4 - not sure on this one, sorry.

So, I've long tried and failed to get the right effect sound for the slight portion of the riff that is used in the No Doubt song "Just A Girl". I can't quite pick out what type of effect it is for sure (my first problem) but even trying various effects...I cannot get something close to it. I know I can program a momentary switch to turn it on and off with the riff as I play, that part I have down easy.... Any help on this effect?

Bypass one block using two different switches
themetallikid replied to LewisBrunton's topic in Helix
I'm not sure I quite understand where the issue is coming in.... 1 - synths off (via snapshot controls), gain on (via snapshot controls) 2 - synth 1 on (via snapshot control, synth 2 remains off), gain off (via snapshot control) 3 - synth 2 on (via snapshot control, synth 1 remains off), gain off (via snapshot control) You cannot control the same effect block using two control, that I've found so far. I do the same thing where I need I need multiple instances of an effect on/off, but I end up just duplicating the block (copy/paste) and assigning each version of the block to a different bypass controller. -
I agree with all above comments.... I have a powered EV speaker that is about 85% accurate to our FOH so I can usually get pretty close to the tones I need/want when setting them up. However, as far as headphones, they are ok to use.......ALTHOUGH, you need to consider the difference between your speaker setup and the headphones sound. They are right that headphones will usually be more bassy, tighter feeling (like IEM's). If you can avoid tweaking presets for them to sound good in headphones, but listen to the change in sound when making changes, then you are well on your way to saving time from tweakers-hell. For example, if you know on a preset on your speaker/FOH setup you need less bass or more mids....and your only tweaking time is late at night when the wife and 2 year old daughter are asleep (yes this is my situation, lol) then headphones are great. As long I adjust the preset with my eyes and not my ears, I'll be fine. If I adjust using my ears, I may end up with Bass 0 and mids 10 on every amp/eq setting to compensate. I use headphones only for learning songs, and helping with volume/lead boost levels. or hearing audible changes to presets....any sort of tone shaping is done at a 'real' volume through 'real' speakers.

I've struggled to use this model in the Helix as well, but used to love it in my GT-8 instead of the standard 808 pedal. I'm curious as well, your findings increase that curiousity

Helix LT Whammy/Pitch Shifter Expression pedal issue
themetallikid replied to LineFever's topic in Helix
For my issues I had, nothing could 'fix' the issue. Even restarting the Helix. And it wouldn't affect preset. When I was enduring this, I had 3 banks of 8 presets, basically 6 rhythms, 6 leads and then copies of them grouped in to genre banks for me. It would affect my Clean preset in Bank 1, but not Banks 2 or 3. It would affect the clean in Bank 1, but not the other 7 presets in Bank 1. I could turn it off and back on and sometimes it would resolve the issue, other times it would not. Sometimes it would resolve it for bank 1 preset 1, but then affect 3 other presets that were fine before. There really was not reasoning to why it was happening or not happening. No programming/resetting could resolve the issue that I could see. My only advice would be to start the support ticket process and explain what is happening, you can even have them reference the tickets under my name as it sounds like the same issues I was having.- 28 replies

Helix LT Whammy/Pitch Shifter Expression pedal issue
themetallikid replied to LineFever's topic in Helix
I had this issue with my LT. It drove me nuts....it would work fine at practice/home, then get to the gig and only read 0-94 or 95 or 93 or 97. I inverted the heel/toe for auto engage (I mainly used it for wah), which helped, but still did not allow me full use of pitch/whammy. Ultimately I ended up creating a support ticket, I sent it in to be repaired, got it back, it worked for about 2 days until it came back. They immediately replied to send it in and they will replace it. Havent had an issue with the new one....so far.- 28 replies

Yeah I saw the blocks being engaged when I watched it later. I played around a bit but couldnt quite get it in time for the gig. I liked the Vibe effect, but just couldnt get the rate fast enough even maxed out. I'll have to learn about the OSC Generator a bit.
