If you're saying you have the mix for the delay tied to an expression pedal, yes there is a way to do that. In Global Settings > EXP Pedals, knobs 4, 5, and 6 let you set how the expression pedals behave. You can choose Per Snapshot, Per Preset, or Global. You'd want to set that to Per Snapshot or Per Preset for the pedal you have the parameter tied to. Then when you go to the preset, the value of the mix parameter will be set at whatever it was when you saved the preset.

Seems like there are lot of things that people suggest that could fall into the category of "how hard could it be?"... Seems like quite the chore to have to sift through all this stuff and decide what's worth spending time and what's not... Glad it's not my job. :D

I think a lot of these things are purely subjective... One person would call a tone bright, the other would call the same thing harsh. Someone might call another tone warm and full, but another person might think it's dull and muddy. I mean, I hear demos all the time where a person loves the tone, but to me it sounds like nothing special or even annoying. Heck, sometimes I'll go back to tones I created and listen to them with fresh ears, and I'll be like, "what was I thinking?"... Really is more of an art than a science, imo.

What do you mean support is now defunct? They are still completely supporting it...

It's after any of the digital outputs... It doesn't affect the USB audio, S/PDIF or AES/EBU / L6 Link connections.

Global EQ is only applied to the XLR and 1/4" outs (you can choose to apply it to one or the other or both).

It's already possible to control parameters with MIDI. It's very easy to set up actually. On the Helix, when you're on the home screen for the effect you want to control, hold down the knob underneath the parameter you want to tie to the controller. That will take you to the Controller Assign screen. On the right hand side of the screen, you'll see "Learn Controller". Hit that knob. Next, just turn the knob on your controller that you want to use. Once you do that, the two are tied together. You can set the min and max values on that screen then.

I can't imagine many FOH systems have a 31-band EQ dedicated to the electric guitar...

It will probably always be an issue simply because these are components buys from vendors... I've never heard of any electronics manufacturer that doesn't produce duds every now and then. Just the nature of the business. I'm confident Line 6 is dedicated to making things right for people that have problems, though.

Yes.

The other thing I'd mention is that I don't think the slopes on the high and low cut filters in the cab block are all that steep, so even if you have the high cut set to a low level, there's still a good bit of high end getting through it seems. It's not like you're just chopping it all off. You're just de-emphasizing it... So don't be too worried about what the number is.
-
Well all of the stock cabs are shot with no high or low cut filters applied. For commercially available IRs, and ones that come built-in with other units, those are baked-in the IR. So, no, there's nothing unusual about having to use high cut filters with the on-board cabs. Although, setting it down that to 2 or 3K is much lower than I ever set mine. I guess I personally tend to like guitar tones that are little brighter just because I feel they tend to cut through the mix a little better, at least in the type of music I play. But, anyway, I don't think there's any sort of inherent harshness in the Helix modeling. It's just Line 6 gives users the options to set these sorts of filters the way they see fit.

Yes, I can see what you're getting at, but that's only if you leave the dry signal in the parallel path. The whole idea of using a parallel path, imo, is to separate the wet and dry signals. So, typically, you'd set the mix at 100 for the parallel path and control the entire level of the path independently. Of course, there's no hard and fast rules, so do whatever sounds and works best for you!

Buttons for Bank up and down, Mode and Tempo/Tuner locked in?

Pedal Edit mode is available with the Rack and Helix Control as well... -
Well, if you have the mix at anything less than 100, and move the delay block to a parallel path, the overall dry signal will increase because you actually have two dry signals at that point. If you have the mix at 100, though, it shouldn't make a big difference in the overall volume.

Buttons for Bank up and down, Mode and Tempo/Tuner locked in?

There are quite a few different options on how to configure the switches. The main thing is there are three different modes - preset, stomp and snapshot. There a bunch of different ways you can configure preset mode - I like using the 8 snapshot view. If I want to turn individual stomps on and off, I can just hit the mode switch and get into stomp mode. To change presets, I just hit one of the bank switches to see the preset lists. There is flexibility, but not what you'd call total flexibility, I guess. I think Line 6 is operating from the premise that not many people want to spend time programming custom layouts for the footswitches. Not to say there aren't some who wouldn't want that... The nice thing is that none of it is completely set in stone as far as being changed/updated in the future. But obviously, a board with 12 switches total is going to be a little more limited than one with 17 switches just by the very fact there's 5 fewer switches. -
I'm not sure I understand what it meant by this statement... On the Helix, if you put the mix parameter at 100%, what that means is you have 100% wet, 0% dry. If you want equal parts wet and dry, set the mix to 50%. If you have the block in a parallel path, you probably want to leave the mix at 100, and use the level parameter in the split block to control the level of the effect.
-
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking... But it sounds like you're wanting to use one of these expression pedals to control wah. The auto-engage feature was added with the 2.10 update, so you actually don't need to assign the wah to a footswitch to turn the block on and off. You can select EXP1, 2 or 3 for Bypass Assign and then assign that same EXP as a controller for the wah, and it will turn on once you move the pedal past a certain point (whatever percentage you select).

Btw, nearly every tuner I've ever used has occasionally displayed an incorrect note while tuning. I think sometimes they are picking up on overtones in the string rather than the fundamental frequency. Usually, I can get them to read the correct note if I downtune a little, and pluck the string a little harder.
-
Try turning it all the way down... I left the most important word out in my earlier reply, lol... I have since edited it.
-
You mean that it's reading a G when you're playing an E? Try switching to your neck pickup, if you haven't already, and turning the tone knob all the way down on your guitar when tuning. That gives the tuner more of fundamental to work with.

I'm sure the people working on it want it to be released more than users want it... They just want it be done right.

Like I said earlier, it's not so much a feature of the Axe FX itself as it is the MFC101 controller. It just means that there's a dedicated footswitch for that preset... The old FBV Longboard controller used to have a "favorite channel" footswitch that was essentially the same thing as what you're describing, btw. It also had more footswitches than the Helix or Helix Control. So I guess it would just be a matter of figuring out where such a footswitch could be programmed.
-
From what I understand, the "global lead" feature isn't really something inherent to the Axe FX, but rather more like a favorite preset button on the MFC101 that takes you immediately to that preset. If you had an external MIDI controller, you could easily do the same thing with the Helix, by simply having it send that dedicated PC all the time. Other than that, I can't think of a way to do on-board. I was thinking that perhaps programming a PC to a footswitch might work, but the problem with that would be that in order for that to work the Send/Receive PC parameter needs to be set to on in the Global Settings menu. And when that's on, the Helix not only responds to PCs, but send them upon a preset change. So I think you'd end up with a MIDI feedback loop that would probably cause a lock-up.

Yeah, you need to do the reset... If you didn't back up your patches already, though, you may be out of luck. You could try rolling back to the previous firmware and editor and updating your patches, but I don't know. But there's a reason they have these instructions. Not following them will cause problems. Not really a matter of if, but when. By problems, I mean all manners of freezing, lock ups, and other weird stuff.
