  1. I don't think this was endemic to any production run or anything like that. I don't actually think it was all that common, overall. I know it's been reported by some people, and Line 6 has been fixing them as they come up. If you're in your return window, and can get a replacement, it might be better to just go that route. I would expect that just because of the nature of these sorts of LCD screens, that this sort of thing will pop up sporadically throughout the Helix's production.

    Firmware 2.12

Well, that's not the expected behavior... I've actually skipped version quite a few times because I've had a beta release candidate installed, skipped the actual release, and then done the next update. I've not had any issues.
  3. Oh, yeah, right you are... That's the EP-101, not the 201, though. So no reverb on that model.
  4. Funny... I think I'd be much more comfortable using the Helix in such an environment than a laptop. But, anyway, if you can map MIDI commands to the BT board, then, yes, I imagine you'd be able to do what you want to do.
  5. I don't think there was/is... The tape models (there was a dry thru model as well) were the Echoplex in the M-series as well. They also had a model of the Binson Echorec (Echo Platter), which was pretty cool. I wouldn't mind see that one makes it way to the Helix.
  6. The Transistor Tape, like Peter mentioned, is the closest. It's based on the Maestro Echoplex, a different tape delay, though. The main difference between the Space Echo and other tape units, is it has a built in reverb. You could probably do a pretty good emulation of this by putting the Transistor Tape block on a parallel path followed by a Spring Reverb on the same path.

    Firmware 2.12

You don't need to install all the updates, just the latest one.
  8. I believe DI said that as of now, it's plug-in only, but they may develop the standalone functionality in the future.
  9. All of this stuff will be changing shortly after Helix Native is released. The whole updated process will be much more streamlined.
  10. The Helix hybrid cabs use less DSP than a 2048 sample but give the same resolution. Whether or not they use as little DSP as 1024 sample IR, I don't know. They probably use a little more. I don't know that all the cabs use the same amount of DSP.
  11. I can't say I've had any issue with it. I think for a wah, it works best if you give yourself a little buffer in the pedal position. The default of 5% seems to work well enough for me. For the Wait parameter, I like it a little bit longer than the default. 500ms seems to do the trick. If the Wait parameter is coming into play when turning the pedal on, it means you have it set up backwards. That parameter is designed with the idea that the resting state of the pedal is heel down, like most switchless wahs. The idea is that you can rock back past that position while using the wah without it being deactivated and activated again. If you do let it rest in the "dead zone" for the amount of time you have selected, it will be turned off. If you want to use it as a toe down resting position, you can, but you need to reverse the polarity of the pedal in the Global Settings menu. That will make the Wait parameter work correctly for that scenario. If you do that, you also need to reverse the max and min settings for the wah position parameter in the Controller Assign screen (unless you want a reverse wah, of course!).
  12. I messed around with shooting out CC69 values from Reaper to the Helix tonight via USB, and I'm not getting anything unexpected. I turned the Send/Receive MIDI PC parameter on just to be sure, and it's working like I'd expect. So, I don't think I'm able to be of any help to you. I really don't know Logic at all, so you may be better off opening a ticket here.
  13. I meant to reply to this thread earlier today, but got distracted with actual work... Anyway, I was thinking about that - the Helix sending PC messages upon patch change. Could it be possible that those PC messages are triggering something in Logic that is sending out some stray CC commands? I'll try to mess around with this tonight a little. Also, do you have any instant commands programmed in these snapshots?
  14. I'm pretty sure that there's only a red LED there, so I believe the answer is no.
  15. Well, yes, Reaper offers a free trial period of 60 days, and the software is fully functional when you install it. It actually is still fully functional after the 60 day period, but you're supposed to pay for a license to use if after that. You just get a nag screen whenever you use it past 60 days. They kind of use the honor system. It's a great product, imo, and it's well worth throwing them a few bucks for what they offer.
  16. If it's the 64-bit version of Cubase 5, I believe it should work... Cubase 5 is a bit long in the tooth now, but I believe it can load VST2 plug-ins. Not sure about VST3, though. I still think that Reaper is one of the best deals out there right now. It's not free, but it's harder to think of a better deal for $60. If you want free, you can get the free version of Pro Tools, Pro Tools First. It supports aax plug-ins. It has certain limitations (which I'm entirely sure of), but if you're just doing limited recording, it might be worth checking out.
  17. Well Amp Farm was replaced (for the most part) with POD Farm, and that ran natively. As far as the input impedance, it will depend on what sort of input Z your interface has. There are some interfaces that have a variable input impedance circuit similar to the Helix.
  18. Actually, I think the accepted meaning of that acronym is "Not Available, Maybe May"... March would be ambitious for most of the companies presenting. :D I think the rules for new products presented at NAMM is that they're supposed to be available for purchase within the next calendar year.
  19. Plug-in only right now, so yes, you'll need to have some sort of plug-in loader for it to work. A DAW is going to be the most common way to do that. There are all sort of inexpensive or free DAWs out there now, though.
  20. DI answered it somewhere... Not sure if it was here or over on the TGP, but anyway, no, right now the Helix Control doesn't have this ability. There is a USB jack on the Helix Control, so it may be something that's added in the future. The thing about the Helix Control board is that it's not a standard MIDI or class-compliant MIDI over USB controller. It's simply a "dumb" remote for the Helix Rack. I imagine if it were made to work as a controller, it would mean that a driver would need to be developed to support it. Not outside the realm of possibilities by any means, but that work hasn't been done yet.
  21. I imagine if you contact Line 6, they will send you the correct knob. Changing the knob isn't a big deal at all. Sounds like you did get a wrong one on there somehow.
  22. You have to assign blocks to footswitches. There are no automatic assignments, so if haven't done it manually, stomp mode will remain empty. There are two ways to assign blocks to footswitches (or Bypass Assign, as the manual calls it). Quick Bypass Assign is the fastest (of course :) ). They're both described on pg 40 of the manual.
  23. I'm not sure why you think anyone here has any incentive to take you up on this "bet"... No one here is getting a commission for convincing you to buy a Helix, and I'm not sure what matching this particular tone proves. Matching a tone on a recording has always seems like an odd target because the gear the player used is only one part of it. Who knows what was done in the studio after the fact to get it to where it ended up? Really, you just need to try one of these units for yourself. The fact is that someone could come up with a preset post a sample, have it sound great, and you might try that same preset, and it might not work for you. That happens all the time.
  24. The app you want it just called "Helix". Just select "Helix" in the middle pulldown menu here, leave the first blank, and your operating system should be selected automatically. That will take you to the right link. http://line6.com/software/
