At the bottom of the notes, there should be a link that says "Get Download".

Not sure... Works for me when I search for it. Here's the actual link for the Helix 2.11 app for Windows 7: http://line6.com/getrelease?rid=7278&uid=416571

Not exactly sure what you're asking... All of the footswitch assignments in Stomp Mode are customizable by the end user, so it's totally up to you as to what effects and/or commands you want assigned to each footswitch.
-
The stock cabs use less DSP than a 2048 sample IR - about half as much, actually - and offer the same resolution.

The level parameter in the output block(s) can be controlled just like any other parameter. So you could tie it to an expression pedal, a footswitch, or have it change with snapshots. I do this quite a lot with snapshots. It's a nice way to level the volume of snapshots with different gain levels.

Michael Vick? Yikes! Certainly didn't mean to allude to anything like that... Just a poor choice of words/bad joke on my part. I only mentioned anything only because I feel that there are so many global options right now, it can be hard to remember what all is there. Was just remembering reading something DI wrote a few months ago about him giving the stink eye to people on the Helix team when they suggest adding more global settings. I'm sure he didn't mean that to discourage other suggestions from customers, though. :)
-
Every time someone suggests another global setting parameter, DI punches a puppy...

I think the defaults are there so if someone creates a patch without reading the manual, and inserts a volume pedal and wah pedal as they would on the HD series, it will work. Really not a big deal either way.

Well, you don't have to install the update right away to start using it, but it's probably a good idea to plan on doing first thing. That's really the easiest time to do it. When you first turn on the unit, you'll see what firmware version it's loaded with on the splash screen. The latest version is 2.11 (which I'm sure won't be loaded on your unit from the store). I wouldn't be surprised if yours came with 2.0 on it, though.

I run pedals in the loops, and I certainly don't notice degradation. It does sound like the global EQ is most likely the culprit. Why not try turning it off and seeing how it sounds? I think all of the converters on the Helix are the same. The guitar input is physically different only because it has the variable input Z.

IIRC, when you create a parallel path, I don't think there is a volume jump. I think the Helix applies something like a 3dB cut to each path so that level remains the same. However, once you start moving the mix past 50%, the dry signal in the parallel will start decreasing, so then you will hear an overall decrease. So actually, I think that creating a parallel and killing the dry signal can cause a slight drop in the overall dry level. It's easy enough to compensate for it at the output block, though.
-
It's like I said above - when you first add a parallel path, you're doubling up on the dry signal, so when you start moving the mix parameter past 50%, the dry signal in the parallel starts decreasing. When you have it 100%, you're left with only wet signal in the parallel path, so the dry sound overall won't be as loud as it originally was when you first added the path.

What I do is set Preset Mode to "8 Snapshots" and then use the Mode switch to switch between Preset and Stomp mode. That way, it's pretty fast to get into a preset to turn individual effects on and off if I want to, but most of the time I am changing between snapshot. If you want to have Stomp mode set to 10 footswitches, you still can. To change presets, you just have to be in Preset Mode and hit one of the bank switches.

How would you expect it to work without modulation? If you have the same delay time for both sides, what difference would you expect to hear from the left and right sides?

Many consumer-grade audio devices introduce latency with their connections because of the way they process audio. They weren't really designed with real-time monitoring in mind. Even if you're syncing with video, a 10ms latency is probably not going to be noticeable, but it can be when playing guitar through a system. I've used my AMPLIFi TT's S/PDIF connection plugged directly into an audio interface, and there was no latency.

I think the reasoning as to why the wah defaults to being controlled by EXP1 and the volume/pan defaults to EXP2 is that this was done prior to the auto-engage functionality, so if you had a wah, you'd want it to be turned on and off via the EXP toe switch, and therefore most people use EXP1 as the wah and EXP2 as a volume pedal. I think the challenge in manuals is that everyone tends to process and visualize this functionality a little differently. Just difficult to approach everything from everything different angle, I think.
-
The latency is probably from your A/V receiver. Many of them apply some DSP to the incoming signal. The G10's latency is less than 3ms - shouldn't be noticeable.

Are you running the 2.10 firmware? This was a known issue with the 2.10 firmware but was fixed with 2.11.
-
Hate to say it, but that's most likely a hardware issue. Dead pixels sometimes happen on LCD screens like this.

It sounds like you aren't actually in snapshot mode. If you press the two bank buttons for too long, you simply change the function of those buttons. One of those functions is a snapshot scroll function which lets you step through the snapshots - that's what you're seeing. To actually get into snapshot mode, you simply hit those bank buttons quickly. Then the snapshot will show up. Also, regarding the 4 stomps/4 snapshots mode, that applies to preset mode. If you hit the Mode footswitch, you will toggle between stomp and preset mode. If you don't need to have immediate access to different presets, setting preset mode to something different can make it a little easier to access snapshots.

Too accurate for some people, apparently... Tuner arguments are so last year...
-
I'm confused why you changed the controller assignment for the decay parameter back to "none" after you saved. That will, of course, make it so the parameter value stays the same for every snapshot.
-
Each string is processed individually on the Variax, but, yes, that's true polyphonic shifting there.
-
I'm not a Line 6 employee... Although I do know many of the guys in their "back room". :D I don't think what's going on with the apps is equivalent to the real-time processing for these types of effects. The Helix doesn't do this sort of polyphonic (and I'm saying it's polyphonic simply because chords are polyphonic) shifting either. It was only in 2014 when the Digitech Whammy could do it. It's not simply a matter of shifting the original signal. It's having the final product sound and feel right. Like I said, I imagine that latency of some of these apps could be quite high. It's just that for audio playback it doesn't matter. You don't notice it because you aren't hearing the original signal. With real-time effects you are.
-
I don't think it's as simple as that... I'm not a DSP engineer, so I don't know all that details. But I imagine if it were completely simple, it would be done more often. None of the major multi-effects manufacturers do polyphonic pitch shifting in this price range as far as I know. I imagine part of it is that with the apps you mention, latency isn't a consideration. For real-time effects processing, it's critical.
