I generally use Logic Pro X on the Mac, but I also a have a few more DAWs used mainly for trouble shooting HX Native issues. I obviously also have GarageBand as it ships with all Macs. When I need to hook the Helix to GarageBand, I will set the Helix USB as both Input and Output Device in the preferences, and then I have a pair of powered studio monitors which are connected to the XLR outputs of the Helix. Everything works just fine. If you have external speakers try connecting them to the Helix, this will avoid any software monitoring issues. This is detailed in the Helix Owner's Manual page 69, USB Audio, Hardware Monitoring vs. DAW Software Monitoring. Possibly the main thing about this situation is the big clue in your post - " brand new MacBook Pro". This leads me to think that it is running OSX 11 Big Sur. If that's the situation, I will refer you to the Orange "sticky" banner at the top of this page, which is entitled "MacOS 11 Compatibility with Line 6 Software. Hope this helps/makes sense

HX Stomp XL - how many of you were waiting for this?

I know exactly what you mean. -
HX Stomp XL - how many of you were waiting for this?

I believe that I saw the end of February cited at some point on a TGP thread. Maybe wrong, could be speculation. -
Yay! Success at last.

HX Stomp XL - how many of you were waiting for this?
datacommando replied to datacommando's topic in Helix
Oh, a HX Stomp XT sceptic? Check this thread about the “leak” on the website from a US retailer. It also mentions the POD Go Wireless. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/hx-stomp-xl.2221270/ Good job it’s January and not April. -
Is there a detailed description for the new reverbs somewhere?
datacommando replied to revolver1010's topic in Helix
For a moment there, I actually thought this might have been an important news leak about any impending additions of reverbs to the next firmware update. Sadly it’s just yet another Zombie. You’ve opened up a thread that has been dead for over 2 years and if you check 5 posted above yours “revans” links to where he got those florid descriptions. Wonder where Fluid got their info? -

AFAIK that info was also leaked around the same time as the HX Stomp XL. IIRC there is post on TPG. -
Yep you did - but it was almost 5 years dead. This is the second Zombie thread you have dug up so far.

HX Effects Firmware 3.02.0 Available for Downloading 1/14/21

Hey Ho, (grin), Rearrange the words, head, nail, on, the, hit, the, you, into a well know phrase or saying. You would have thought that the firmware installation debacle would have been tackled at the first sign of any user problem, way back on the very first firmware release for the Helix. Granted, the last version, where it was supposed to be handled by HX Edit, should have done the job, but it is a thinly veiled attempt to hide the Line 6 Installer from the technically timid end user. The downside is that it is not 100% successful, and when it does go wrong the “merde” hits the air conditioning. I’m not even sure that a plea for a better installer routine via “IdeaScale” would achieve success, as it appears to be awash with requests for things far more exotic. Your observations are very astute, and your input is, as always, much appreciated. Later (as the young folk say). -
Awww! You beat me to it. I would have been more than happy to show him that. He wasn’t very good at finding other obvious answers. It’s such a shame - he will never know now. Happy to help!

Well, as Cakewalk Bandlab utilises VST3 plug-ins- yes, Native is VST3.

Here ya go!

Strangely enough both responses appeared here simultaneously - who’d have though that two people would be able to tell you the same thing at the same time. Maybe if you scrolled a little more, you could find this stuff for yourself.
-
Yep, the thing that needs to be slapping you in the face (extremely hard) is the fact that this is a known issue and is in the list of stuff to be fixed, hopefully in the next update. If you look (not very hard) you will find many, many reports of this going way back, and all with the same response. It’s becoming really tedious repeating this info over and over again, for people who cannot be bothered to investigate this stuff. Hope this helps/ makes sense. I’m going to have a beer.

Hawkeye, Why do people assume that Line 6 have vast resources at their disposal through the involvement with Yamaha. Here’s a quote from the Line 6 website. “Under the terms of the agreement, Yamaha will operate Line 6 as a wholly owned subsidiary to fully realize the compelling opportunities for the two brands with Line 6’s operations continuing as before and its management team remaining in place.” You’re obviously mistaken as to how big a operation Line 6 is and how many people are actually employed there to deal with this stuff. Cut these guys some slack will ya, and once more, please take the time to see how many other outfits still are not up to speed with the new Apple stuff. Jeeziz. Regards Radar.

Yes, if you take the audio out from your HX Stomp to the instrument input on your PreSonus, and the HX volume knob is set at the maximum, then that will be “unity gain”. I guess that you are actually sending the audio from the HX into GarageBand via USB, which is unaffected by the volume knob. If that is represented by the second screen shot, then you getting a usable recorded signal level into the DAW. As long as that recording level is not noisy then it should be adequate. The size of the waveform might not be actually relevant. If you can hear it and it is not distorting, it should be O.K. It looks as if maybe your PreSonus is presenting a hotter sIgnal. There are ways to add gain to your Stomp recorded tracks after you have captured them in GarageBand and running them through Native. Are you sure that none of the channel strip effects are modifying your input, the compressor can squeeze your signal. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Effects Firmware 3.02.0 Available for Downloading 1/14/21

Hi, HO, What surprised me, was the fact this is a very low key release of a bug fix that is only for the HXFX. I don’t recall seeing a major outcry about this particular issue, when there certainly appears to be far more things that could do with being addressed pretty swiftly. You have highlighted a couple that seem to raise a bit more of a fuss for HX product users, whereas the HXFX looper freeze could possible have been solved by a hardware reset/restart. I, too, am also beginning to become weary of the “update bricked my (insert as applicable)”, from people who cannot be bothered to go through all the previous posted replies to look for a solution. Even worse is when you don’t get to find out if the proffered fix worked. We sure enough seem find out when it doesn’t. I’m not looking for thanks, I’d just like to know if things worked out and it got the unit fixed. I think I’m going to stop trying to assist in future. Disillusioned is probably the best term for it. Sadly, out here at the western end of the spiral arm of this galaxy, we seem to be the last to be made aware of anything that’s happening on planet Helix. Facebook and TGP are the happening places, oh, and Reddit, apparently. Stay safe from the plague. -
Dunno - must be some kinda magic, but, yes I moved into this place 17 years ago and that light bulb still works. Now I've said that it will probably die tomorrow. Oh, no!

As mentioned by “cruisinon2” in the post above, Strymon reverb units use the equivalent of one of the 2 available DSP chips in the Helix floor model. That single chip is dedicated to reverb only. Considering the clamour around Line 6 HX Product users wanting Poly this that and the other, when it arrived many were surprised at the amount of processing power swallowed up by those Poly FX. Be carefully what you wish for, and as I have said many, many times - one of the reasons that Helix has Send/Return FX loops is so you can add your favourite effects boxes externally without guzzling DSP. Obviously this won’t help or make sense to you.

Hi, Well, you probably do need to learn a bit more about Equalisation, although as I understand it, the iLoud speakers can be calibrated for you listening environment. Not sure how you arrived at the decision to buy those, or maybe you were sold them, slight difference. You say that you’re in a small office space in a small apartment. That can have a big impact on your listening experience depending on how it’s furnished. Hard bare walls in a small space can give lots of harsh audio reflections. Some people pay big bucks for reverb units that produce that sound, but the advantage of that is it can be turned off! Throw some soft furnishings around the place to absorb some of that stuff. Pillows, cushions and a duvet would be handy items. Plus you said that you like the sound from your headphones, although you don’t mention the brand or model number. A thing that I noticed with my cans and monitor speakers is while listening on the phones, if I lift them off and cross reference the main speakers, there is no real discernible difference to the audio, they seem very accurate for my needs. You could try setting the EQ on your monitors, while checking through your headphones to get them sounding as close as possible. Of course your headphones will be isolating you from the sound of the room therefore the soft furnishing cheap acoustic treatment will get you nearer. In your small apartment larger speaker might be the wrong thing entirely. You don’t want to upset the neighbours. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If you have purchased Helix Native, and authorised your computer, it should function normally. As far as I’m aware there is no “time out” function for HXN, and depending on the “muscle” in your computer you can open as many instances of Native as you wish. I have not heard of this sort of thing happening, and it may be simply a glitch, as you don’t say that after installing Native you restarted your computer. This is always the best thing to do after adding a new plug-in, and sometimes it gets overlooked and then the next time you use the computer everything just works. Also check everything is setup correctly in Reaper. I’m a Mac jockey that prefers to use Logic Pro X, although I also have Reaper, Ableton, Studio One, GarageBand and Reason installed for troubleshooting some of the issues that pop up on this forum. Needless to say, Reaper and HXN perform as expected on my system. If this continues, and nobody else can provide a remedy, contact Customer Services to make them aware of the issue and see if they have a solution. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Usually the best thing to do, when the hardware glitches, is try the factory reset options. The downside to this is that every mention of this "Updating UI MCU Firmware, please wait. Do not power the unit off“ error has usually resulted in the user having to raise a ticket with Customer Services”. Sorry I cannot offer anymore by way of assistance.

Not sure if people knew about this bug fix for HX Effects Looper. If not - you know now. The announcement made it to Reddit Do you ever feel forgotten in here?
