Stay paranoid! Rule number one in Line 6 Helix world is “do not use a hub!” - Oh, that way madness lies! You might want to check your cables and also check that you don’t have any other USB drivers that may cause a clash! Here’s the very old USB troubleshooting tips from Line 6 Hope this helps/makes sense.

The first step for updating is downloading and installing HX Edit 3.0
datacommando replied to phil_m's topic in Helix
Hey, the last time I shouted that, my bath overflowed! Glad to know that fixed it, and now you’re fully functional. Have fun with your new extras over the Yuletide. Regards -
Hi again, Simple pitch +12 and EQ should be no problem, as they haven’t changed in the firmware update, and as the others (Red Comp, Vtron and Chamber verb) are legacy items and are possibly not as DSP intensive, AFAIK. if you need to get an idea about this stuff, contributor “Malhavok”, Ben Vesco, has a list of how much DSP each item in the HX based products use. Check here: https://benvesco.com/store/helix-dsp-allocations/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Well there are enough to choose from and lots of ways to modify the tones - try them all. Giggle, giggle - Anus records! (yeah, I do know it’s Janus)
-
Well, that should have enough muscle, but check out the DSP allocation that I mentioned. You could try placing the Poly Capo on the top path and add the Red Revv and cabs on the lower path and then see what you have left. Possibly not much.

Hi, Maybe if you shut down your Mac first, then turn off the Stomp. Even though the majority of modern equipment is “hot swappable”, I have found that some computers are not happy to have external devices disconnect while they are still possibly communicating with them. Just a thought. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, You don’t mention which hardware HX product you are using, but this is from the Line 6 official release notes: IMPORTANT! 3.0's new poly models are extremely DSP-intensive. Some effects can eat up roughly a quarter of all available DSP on a Helix Floor, Rack, or LT or half (!!!) of all available DSP on HX Stomp or HX Effects. You also can't run more than one on the same path/DSP (unless you're running Helix Native with Hardware Compatibility Mode turned off). Don't say we didn't warn you... Also, bear in mind that certain amps may not be as “simple” as you might think and could be using lots of DSP along with any Poly FX. Contributor “Malhavok”, Ben Vesco, has a list of how much DSP each item in the Helix uses. Check here: https://benvesco.com/store/helix-dsp-allocations/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Could it be that you are suffering the old and notorious Micro SD card issue? https://line6.com/support/topic/49342-hx-edit-281-and-helix-native-starting-with-with-a-blank-screen-and-crash/page/3/ Also, somewhere on these threads I recall seeing a post about “a particular revision” of a Windows 10 update that seems to cure similar crash issues when there is no SD card involved. Have a trawl through the stuff to see if you can find the correct update number for Windows. Found it - check the last comment about Windows 20H2. https://line6.com/support/topic/58258-hx-edit-will-not-open/?tab=comments#comment-361421 Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, All the new FX are available in the Stomp v.3.01 firmware update, but please note this - from the official release notes. IMPORTANT! 3.0's new poly models are extremely DSP-intensive. Good start. I keep telling myself that I am going to stop doing this, but let’s give this one more go around, just for the hell of it. You don’t mention what your computer is and the OS you’re using, which is really handy to know, but it’s essentially the same routine for PC or Mac. Remove all Line 6 software from your computer especially the Windows drivers and then restart your computer. Make sure to turn off the power to your Helix. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and Helix. Hold down FS6 & FS12 and the turn power on and when Helix logo appears, quickly release both foot switches. Leave it powered up. Download the and install latest HX Edit v. 3 (with all the drivers) Reconnect the USB cable to Helix and computer - Do not use a Hub - the front ports on a PC function as a hub so use one on the rear. Find and launch the Line 6 Updater and install the v.3.01 firmware file For the Line 6 official guide - read this and follow the instructions to the letter. No guarantees are given or implied, you do this at your own risk. If it doesn’t work, raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Good to know that you figured it out. I might be helpful to edit the title of your post to include SOLVED in the title, to make it more obvious to others. TIA.

Ongoing helix sound quality issue - digital harshness?
datacommando replied to jaw5jaw5's topic in Helix
Hi, As you say this is most noticeable with headphones, then telling us the make, model and impedance would be a big help. I can’t understand why, if you detect this “digital harshness” through the ‘phones, it should be glaringly obvious through your Yamaha HS monitors. I would do as suggested by “rd2rk” in the post above, and attach an example preset for checking out. Hope this helps/makes sense.- 17 replies

Same as all the other replies on here - you need to install HX Edit v.3.0. When you've done that - restore the Global settings from the back-up file that you made before updating the Firmware. You did make a back-up, didn't you?
-
Hi, As Helix Native has it’s own section on here, you might want to read this, although not many people seem to visit and only a couple of us reply - it is a rather forgotten corner. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Marty, Good start. I would normally assume that you had read through and tried all the interminable lists of suggestions posted in this forum, but it seems not. Never assume anything because that makes an... Let’s give this one more go around, just for the hell of it. You don’t mention what your computer and OS are using, but I will guess Windows as you mention the BSOD - plus the same routine should be the same for Mac. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and Helix. Hold down FS6 & FS12 and the turn power on and when Helix logo appears, quickly release both foot switches. Leave it powered up. Need help with preset for acoustic with piezo pickup
datacommando replied to gerryCol's topic in Helix
O.K. You appear to be lost. This is the wrong place to be asking about Toneport drivers, but let’s try to help you out. Try this - Go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from the drop down menu "-ALL HARDWARE-" scroll down until you can select Toneport UX2, then from "-ALL SOFTWARE-" select Drivers, next you should select Windows 10 from under the "-ALL OS-" tab, then click the “GO” button. From there you should be taken to the page where you can select the Driver version 4.2.7.7 Click the blue “GET DOWNLOAD” button. On the next page agree to the EULA, then you click on “Accept and Download”. You should be able to find the latest Line 6 Monkey and Gearbox using the same dowloads page. Good luck. -
Native purchase, yeah thinking about being lazy
datacommando replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Hi, That’s exactly what you would be getting with HX Native, a Behringer U-Phoria UM2, a decent set of headphones and a free DAW such as Reaper. You probably don’t even really need the DAW for jamming, but if you had it, you could have software synths and drums in there if you want to experiment. The bonus being that HX Native is the the brain of a full hardware Helix, minus the Exp pedal and all the extra ins and outs. I guess your other option is a HX Stomp for home jamming. Mmm. big decision - similar outlay. -
Updating to 3.0.1 failed, and now HXEdit says "no device connected"
datacommando replied to HawkniteSH's topic in Helix
Hi, To save me from having to type all this out once again - please go here and read my replies. Especially the bit about removing and reconnecting the USB cable. It worked for others. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, once more, Because you’re asking the exact same question - I will give the exact same answer as above. Restore your Global settings from your backup the you made prior to updating the Firmware. HX Edit v3. From under the File menu item and select “Restore from backup”. In the window that opens next, select the backup file with the most recent date. Then only select the Globals to be restored. You could also select the “Pac-man” function from within the Global Settings Menu on your hardware unit. Preferences > Joystick encoder > Selection. You could revert back to 2.9x, but if that fails you may need a tech to check out the solder joints on the joystick. Hope this helps/makes sense.

You have always got the option of using a dual boot system on your Mac. It’s what many others have done. https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/dual-boot-mac-3659676/

Mmm... ONLY...really? Possibly you didn’t read this. https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/macos-11-big-sur-compatibility-guide/

Hi, The Global setting will have defaulted to the factory set when you did the update on the firmware. Before updating you would have made a backup of the content of your Helix. Open HX Edit 3.0 and from under the File menu select “Restore from backup” and you can select to restore just the Global settings which you had previously. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
Hi, They are all in there if you have updated the firmware to 3.01 You just need to download and install HX Edit v3.0 There is quite a large thread about this exact thing right at the top of this forum. Hope this helps/makes sense

Helix not recognized in Mac after 3.01 Firmware Update
datacommando replied to jeancouture25's topic in Helix
Hi, While this is true for the Mac platform, it’s my understanding that the OP has also tried a Windows PC to get the Helix to show up over the USB. No success with either OS - class this as yet more unexplainable USB voodoo. The only info available from Line 6 regarding the mystery of USB connection is from 2006. In 14 years - no changes there!
