HX Stomp XL - no sound from either "Open Back" 3.60 Cabs
datacommando replied to joshfass's topic in Helix
Hi, Josh, That is the weirdest thing - all the other cabs work fine apart from the Open Cast. That really is digital voodoo. Anyhow, here are the full set of Reset Options for your HX Stomp XL from the Line 6 Knowledge Base on here. HX Stomp XL Hold these button combinations while powering up the HX Stomp XL: 1. FS ^, C & D: clears all presets/IRs 2. FS ^+C: resets presets and IRs 3. FS C+D: factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) 4. Page >: Update mode. This update mode is helpful if the update is interrupted, and the HX Stomp will not boot properly. You will see a blank screen (no visual feedback on the display). 5. Upper & Lower Knobs: Rebuild presets. Wait for "Will Rebuild Presets..." to appear and let go. (This site is always worth looking at:- https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options#hx-stomphx-stomp-xl) My best guess in this situation would be to go for option 5, Rebuild Presets. This should have been invoked automatically after the Firmware Update finished and your unit reboots. It’s one of those things that is necessary to upgrade all your presets to the latest format. You should also see the “Rebuilding Presets” on screen when you power up after loading any older version presets downloaded from any third party or places such as CustomTone. If this doesn’t resolve this, I suggest you contact Customer Support, because this is such an odd thing. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I just realised that there is a Factory Preset in the Stomp XL that uses the Grammatico GSG, located here: 10D [039] DIR:Gram GSG It may be worth checking if that preset uses the same cab block and if the same issue arises. Plus: have you tried creating a preset that uses that amp, but with a separate open back cab block? Keep us posted -

Yep, that’s perfectly fine, no problem with that. It just that it simply seemed like a random quote, aimed at no one in particular, dropped into a dead thread. Hey, ho! -

Same here re: buying stuff, but the yellow guitar pick has featured in a few posts, mainly due to some issue with the Marketplace and licensing of the preset or IRs in the pack. This might be likely to be something to do with the Mac. As far as I can tell he must be on OS Monterey at the very least, going by the icons in his taskbar. Strange to note that even though he posted this problem yesterday, the screen shot is actually dated the afternoon of the 4th of May. (May the Fourth be with you!) It could also be that although he says he updated and reset, but didn’t mention if the box went through the “Rebuilding Presets”. Possibly that could explain the glitch with only that particular cab. -

Hmm... Interesting idea, but who is it aimed at, almost seven years later than the previous posts? -
HX Stomp XL - no sound from either "Open Back" 3.60 Cabs

HI, You are running a Mac, but didn't say what OS you have installed - There has been some issues with some of the newer Macs failing to download and install v3.60 HX Edit. Please check that both your HX Edit and Firmware are on the same version - In fact if you are running Ventura 13.3.1(a) you definitely should download and install the Bug Fix version of HX Edit 3.61. - well do it anyway! I have just loaded a Firmware v3.60 Grammatico GSG and 1x12 Open Cast Amp/Cab block (stock settings) along with a Ping Pong Delay, a Dynamic Hall Reverb and LA Studio Comp. It works just fine for me, although there are no Snapshots in the preset. I have uploaded it (Gram 3.60.hlx) here for you to download and see if this has the same issues. Gram 3.60.hlx Hope this helps/makes sense -

Hi, It’s a Marketplace item - the yellow plectrum icon is a clue, but I checked and it’s listed there. There is nothing particularly complex about the preset, although it was created for FW. 3.5, and the OP says he has updated to 3.60, plus done the factory reset. Most strange that it works with a different cab? Maybe a mismatch of HX Edit and Firmware revision. Note: Bug fixed HX Edit 3.61 available to download now! Dunno, what to suggest, but if it was me, I would contact Support, or possibly Jason directly. -
Does hx Stomp Change the sound of my (real) amp?

Does hx Stomp Change the sound of my (real) amp?
datacommando replied to armoredcore80's topic in Helix
Ah, now it makes a little more sense because your HX FX doesn't have the USB audio interface function, but if you did change to the HX Stomp, you would be losing 3 footswitches. Plus, I'm not sure how this works, but as the registered owner of the HX effects you may be entitled to a discount on the Helix Native plug-in. Then you could add a cheap Audio Interface into which you could Direct Inject your dry guitar and have all the benefits of re-amping with a full Helix in your recording software. Best of both worlds? Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Does hx Stomp Change the sound of my (real) amp?
datacommando replied to armoredcore80's topic in Helix
Hi, I find your question rather confusing. If you have an HX FX that doesn’t interfere with the natural sound of your amp, then why do you want to change? Surely the whole point of the HX Stomp is the fact it contains “amp modelling” that allows you to totally modify the tone of your existing amplifier. If you never intend to use this option, there seems to be little point in swapping to a Stomp version. If you decide to buy a Stomp, then depending on how you set it up with your amp, you could use it as an FX only box (which is identical to your HXFX), or use the various modelled preamps into your amp using 4CM - to save on typing, please see the reply from @rd2rk in this post. Like @PierM in his reply above, I have no real idea what of you mean by “Does the hx stomp work in the same way or it's like the pod hd 500 I had some years ago?”. They are both multi effects units with built in amp modelling, although the Helix is far better at modelling. (I still have a POD HD500 lurking around here somewhere). -
Hi, @brue58ski is correct- see page 36 of the HX Effects Owner’s Manual - Assigning Switches in Signal Flow View. You can set the switch to “None”, and then moving the EXP either engages or bypasses the Volume block. The Manual is your friend. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a411710a6112a67116f0b/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev C - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yup! You sure are. Why is it not possible to route path 1 to path 2 in stereo? - It is! Why is it not possible to mix a signal from path 2 into path 1 or vice versa? - It is, well - it is if you mean mix from 1A to 1B and back, or 2A to 2B and back. Theoretically, you could take the output of path 2 via a send and bring it into path 1 on a return. But why the hell would you ever need to do that? Insane, just plan ahead. Why is it not possible to make a different mix for different outputs? - It is! You need to go back and study the manual - again. Your Helix has 4 stereo paths available - Path 1A & 1B plus Path 2A & 2B - See Template example 04A for all 4 paths in use with each path being sent to 4 different output options. If you have something grayed out it means you have exceeded the DSP available for what you are trying to achieve. Page 15 Helix Owner's Manual - IMPORTANT! If you encounter items in the list that are grayed out or unavailable, this means the current path (1 or 2) cannot accommodate that category, subcategory, or model. See "Dynamic DSP" Dynamic DSP info is on page22 I have been using my Helix for almost 8 years and cannot remember the last time I ran out of DSP. I suggest you might want to reassess your approach to how you set up a preset.

Ah, the dreaded :-28 Error Code in red on the top left of the screen! There was a whole thread started about this, from way back in 2017, see if there are any clues in there. I would be tempted to boot into Safe Mode and do a re-install of the latest firmware. Failing that raise a ticket with Customer Support and let us know what happens. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix Edit 3.6 not recognising update is available
datacommando replied to michaelbernard's topic in Helix
Hi, For anyone else who may be unaware, and encounter this Apple Security block. Here is a copy and paste from a post about this Apple Gatekeeper way back in 2019 ”This is now normal behaviour for Apple Mac Operating Systems - you have just encountered the “Gatekeeper” which is built into the OS to protect you from malware. Rather than go through typing out the process of getting past this situation, I will give you a link to Apple’s own page on how to deal with this stuff. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202491 Hope this helps/makes sense.” -
HX Stomp as USB Interface with Logic - Sudden Latency
datacommando replied to drod1985's topic in Helix
Hi, Not sure what is happening there for you. I use Logic with my Helix Floor as the audio Interface and can set it to record and playback at 44.1 kHz without any latency issues as such. My playback monitors are connected on XLR from the Helix. The Line 6 Driver should allow you to switch sample rates. AFAIK using the Mac built in Class Compliant system can only really deal with 48kHz in and out. You can set the sample rate in the Apple Audio MIDI Utility. Granted I'm still using Logic Pro X 10.4 on a 2015 iMac running OSX Catalina - if it ain't broke etc. - It just works. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Yeah, well that says it all really. The Helix is not, and cannot be all things to all men, but it is extremely good at what it does, plus it has some basic MIDI functions but that's it. If you want a fancy looper or MIDI player then you're looking in the wrong place - what you are speculating about just isn't going to happen. This is in the same category of "why is there no onboard drum machine in Helix?" - it's not what it was designed for and there are far too many options already available. Line 6 don't need to reinvent the wheel. "...this could be a game changer and money saver for a number of us." - Yeah, right! Guess you're going to be stuck with the laptop and synth option, so put your hand in your pocket and buy another solution.
-
Huh? You can do this already without the need for an SD card. Create a preset in Native and drag it into HX Edit and load it into your hardware unit. See page 24 Helix Native Pilot’s Guide. “… and realistically a back up unit never really gets updated with your new settings on a regular basis (who has time for double work).” Fail safe! - always work on a copy!

helix native license not working after changing processor
datacommando replied to millerstomp's topic in Helix Native
Glad you managed to get back up and running, but Native I wouldn’t regard it as being particularly “buggy” as such - most of the things you encountered are part of the copy protection for the plug in. In the Helix Native Pilot's Guide, on page 6 you can find the info you needed about de-authorising your computer, under the heading - "Removing Helix Native". http://uk.line6.com/support/manuals/helix-native/ Simply, click on the “My Account” menu item, and select “Deauthorise Computer” from the pop up. The Pilot’s Guide is also built in to the GUI of Native and available by clicking on the question mark icon in the lower left of the window. There is also this in depth post regarding issues with the Mac Migration Assistant - it describes the removal of Native completely. Hope this helps/makes sense. -

Ooooh, that is a thing that seizes me with a mighty dread - iLok is a law unto itself. It sounds like it has been named after LOKI. AAARRRGGHHH! -
After upgrading HX Stomp to 3.6 the old backups cannot be restored.

H I think you may have fallen foul of this situation. I realise you say that the drive is still the same, but did the name of the root hard drive change. Check this out. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Right there at the top of this page, click the menu item “CUSTOMTONE”. Prepare to be disappointed - one persons killer tone is another persons meh!

Hi, Theoretically, yes, but please read, study and inwardly digest the Release Notes for version 3.60 before starting. Specifically the section that mentions starting from v2.80 or lower. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Angel, The easiest way to find where to buy a replacement is to type “line 6 hx effects power supply replacement” into the Google Search engine. Hundreds of options should be available for you to buy in Spain. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
Hi Michael, Good to know that you have managed to update the firmware to 3.6 - enjoy the new features.
-
Only if the guy you bought it from is laughing. You don’t say how you have the Helix connected - and what it’s connected to - amp via 4CM, front of amp, solid state or tube amp, USB into DAW? What are you monitoring on? It helps to know this stuff. You say “your friend” found it overwhelming, but did he say it was noisy? How was he using it? Did you check it out before buying? You also say - “The output on this thing is way, way to noisy to use at a gig or session!!” That doesn’t stack up with what the majority of users have found, lots of folk gigging and recording without issue. I have been using my Helix floor unit in my studio on an almost daily basis since late 2015 and I haven’t encountered the noise issues you describe. A little more info would help. Hope this helps/makes sense.
