  1. shedding more light on the question... From Line 6's Helix blog What The Heck Is An IR?
  2. I was perusing the Fractal forum and found this about the HR108 Flattening the HeadRush curve maybe a Helix genius like rd2rk can figure out if this can be done on the Helix global or block EQs and it can help. I have a HR108 but switched to using my PC+112 and do not have the EQ savvy to figure it out enough to give advice as to whether it can help HX/HR users.
  3. wbowen - I can't help but think you are confusing the PC+'s speaker simulations with it's IRs. Check this Line 6 Helix blog out. What The Heck Is An IR? Forgive me if you already understand this and I am reading something else into your statement: hope this helps
  4. Here is a list from Line6 Knowledge Base for Helix/Rack/LT/FX/Stomp Reset Procedures and Troubleshooting Tricks also Here is a guide from Helix Help to restore Factory Presets and other reset needs: Reset Options
  5. Keep on experimentin'. As for me, in this instance - maybe I'll just lean on the old proverb; "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" and use my GR-55 for my synth tones.
  6. I tried Anderton's formula above and had little success until I turned my tone all the way down.
  7. Wanted to bump this. Many new HX owners may not need this info yet but other Helix owners, especially Stomp people will eventually wish they could do some of this stuff IMO. Maybe should get pinned???
  8. Hi Mike, Here are a couple of sites that have what you may be looking for: Helix Preset Viewer and HLX View
  9. Don't use the Workbench VDI for regular use. You need the Variax VDI with Nuetrik connectors ( connects securely to guitar and Helix ).
  10. Yes. Normal, if you don't have a HX Floor or LT (for VDI) via USB to computer. Yes. Variax (JTV/Standard) > VDI > Helix > USB to computer for Workbench HD (current version).
  11. FYI to all Stomp owners. Here is a great article by Craig Anderton from Sweetwater on how to Get Even More out of HX Stomp. inSync article Just thought I'd pass it on to the community. Hope you find it useful, I have an LT, so, I didn't try the tips and tricks out myself.
  12. You can just change the input to your non Variax guitar and use the signal chain as is. It should work just fine unless the Variax has parameter assignments to control any blocks in the CustomTone preset(s).
  13. Hey johneric8 - Take a look at this Learning with Line 6 YT video. Helix - Common Signal Flow Order and Parallel Paths It explains Signal Chain Flow. It helped me understand things better in this regard.
  14. Couldn't pass up a Gold Top 59 with P90s from Sweetwater's Dent and Scratch deals 5 years ago.
  15. I put these on my JTV59P: Sperzel Style Locking Tuners 3x3 Chrome from GuitarFetish No muss - no fuss
  16. MusicLaw, Thanks for this link. Never saw it referenced before. Audio samples are a nice touch!
  17. Hey medbad5150 - The artist presets that silverhead points out are the ones you are looking for. When I updated to v3.1 they were replaced with different presets. Didn't do v3.11 yet The artist presets came to us with v3.0 Factory 1. These ARTIST PRESETS all use the US Princess. Here is a list of them: 13B BIG DUBB dual amp preset 1 is US Princess 13D BUBBLE NEST 14A DUSTED 15C RC REINCARNATION 17C BMBLFOOT PRINCE 22A PETE THORN DUO dual amp preset 1 is US Princess But wait...there's more HonestOpinion posted this little gem of Helix wisdom - Extract Files From Backup https://line6.com/support/topic/60447-extract-files-from-backup/ "This function will allow you to go back to a previous backup and extract the individual presets from any of your setlists..." Hope this helps .
  18. Hey Dave - Have you tried looking on Line 6 CustomTone? here There are very few patches under EVH and or Van Halen there for HX Effects. My thought to find more ideas - - try looking for tones on CustomTone for the Helix/LT/Stomp. you can't load a Helix patch onto the HX Effects (not 100% sure about this - I don't own the HX Effects) but you can use this free utility that a forum user posted called HLX View. Drag and drop a DLed file onto it and read the path set ups with effects used and the settings listed for each effect used and duplicate on your HX Effects. Find HLX View here. just my 2¢ might help without too much trouble and all free
  19. Welcome to the Variax club. One of our Line 6 forum members; Chad Huskey, has some GOOD Variax and Workbench tutorials on his YT channel. here
  20. I case my guitars when the day is over - I HATE duty guitars. No problem leaving the VDI plugged in for as long as you want.
  21. Sweetwater has Variax Standards going for $899.99 and one scratch and dent JTV69 SSS maple neck for $100 more ($999.99) right now. as of 2/17/21 I bought a scratch and dent JTV59 from them 5 years ago and couldn't find one slight thing wrong with it.
  22. I wasn't suggesting using the GR-55 instead of a Variax with the Helix. I was mentioning Roland technology with respect to my experience with both platforms and your mention of COSM use. Variax/Helix control is amazing - even if you like Roland's COSM more it would be hard to pass up what the Line 6 HX/Vax combination allows you to do. I'm a Variaxer - tried and true. There is no difference in the Standard and the JTV functionality, virtually the same guts. The Standard came along after (or just before the official Yamaha acquisition of Line 6). Take a Yamaha Pacifica drop L6 Variax HD tech into it...hence...a more affordable option than the James Tyler models and I think extended the Variax life span of marketability a bit. BTW - there are even more ways to (try to) tame the artifacts based on the years I've been visiting the JTV forum here.
