  1. Thanks Matt - I'll try the high shelf EQ you recommend. Unfortunately they just are not the same as the v1.9 so many of us liked with an HD spin on them. They are what they are and we (guys like you) can continue to try to get them closer - in some ways they are closer and in some ways they just don't come close and v2.1 starts sounding better. Mark
  2. Cool Matt - I'll try these out today and see if I can tell the difference after you've used the spectrum analyzer. Thanks for your contribution. Mark
  3. Yep - that was a nice trick. I remember that now. If he still uses a Variax...? (preferably a JTV) I wish he would share with us on VGuitar.com
  4. I never understood why Line6 didn't give us a nylon model since they were able to do it in the Acoustic 700.
  5. Thanks mdmayfield...I tried them out and decided I liked them so much I put them in my Custom 1 slot on both my 69 and 59. If you can make 'em better - GREAT...time to open WBHD again. I'm staying TUNED! I don't have version 1.9 in my JTVs so I can't go back to old Workbench. I always wanted to go back in there and see If I could copy, as a starting point, that strat bundle/bank that was on Vettaville by a guy named Ron Husien that many players liked for their 300/600/500/700s - do remember that?, about 4 forum incarnations ago. He was using the Special body with lips (never paid attention to his pot values) but was amazed at how Strat like it sounded and loaded the bank in my 300 and 600's custom 1 slot. I recognize your screen name as being around here a long time...did you ever try those patches out? I think the bank was titled RH-Sept06 .vwb. Crusty used to really like them and talked them up big. I remember Hans from Vettaville had a video to go with them. thanks again, Mark
  6. No problem man. I didn't think you were coming off condescending or judgmental. I just thought that you thought I created that patch and all I was originally trying to ask is how did they create it with special emphasis on the Amp CH Vol and the EXP-2 controller. Thanks for your help and time. I only took all your advice as help and just thought like I said above that there was miscommunication on me being the patch creator and not being able to get it to work. Thanks again bru58ski.
  7. brue58ski - Just in case there's a communication error happening here... My screen shots are from the actual Factory HD500 preset so what I have and don't have as you explain it is the way Line 6 gave us this patch. I just got a new computer yesterday and the place that put the system together for me made all kinds of errors and delivered wrong parts - so, I'll be dealing with that primarilily before I can get to trying your advice out. But at first read through it sounds like you are suggesting I have put the patch together wrong and all I wanted to make sure of is that you understand that it's a Line 6 creation. Thanks again for responding and helping.
  8. Thanks scottyo78 - I'll watch the video - getting a new computer today - the works - so, I might not be able to watch right away. Thanks brue58ski - I'll try what you said and I know what you mean about not touching the EXP pedal before Sending but what puzzles me are the the screen shots for Controllers and the FX. No sign of EXP-2 being assigned. You can see if you look at the patch from Edit it looks different than you describe.
  9. I was messing with some of the factory HD500 presets in BEST OF HD and ran across the patch named Singing Lead 6B. One of the few that sounds pretty good out of the box to me before any tweaking. I tried to recreate the patch with the full amp, not just the pre used in this preset, with the full amp set to the same setting as the pre. My question is, looking at the AMP settings in EDIT 500, how did they assign the Divide 9/15 CH VOL to EXP-2? I remember early on people were saving DSP by using the volume pedal to control the output/drive(OD-Dist) and can't find any posts by Searching on how to do this now - if this is what is going on here. Can any 500 Gurus help me out here? Thanks in advance. Hey_Joe
  10. Just bought a 15 footer from Dunkin. Superior neutrik connector compared to the Line 6 VDI cable. Quality all the way and great email communication thoughout the buying and shipping process. I might buy another longer one to run around my practice room - kind of got used to the 25' one from Line 6 but this will be the perfect length for playing out. You can't go wrong getting one of these from Dunkin. Hey_Joe
  11. As sandman69 pointed out...you have to have a 1/4" cable plugged into the JTV also. You didn't mention if you have done that also. Have you?
  12. Welcome Dave - WARNING about the VDI Cable: Just trying to through out a heads up here. It's very important to use a VDI cable with the Neutrik shell on both ends of the cable to prevent any damage to the pins in the JTV or the POD. Yes - - a standard etherCON RJ45 will fit and work but the possibility of stepping on the cord or unintentionally damaging the non protected cable will cause big time grief and repair costs. Not using the Neutrik is trouble in the making. The cable that comes with the JTV and the USB interface is only intended for use while updating the guitar's firmware for those that don't have the HD500X/HD500 and connecting to Workbench (until Line 6 updates WB to work with the PODHD500(X) like the Variax always has in the past with the 500, X3L and XTL).
  13. Yeah, SORRY! I messed up. I screwed up and was looking at my POD HD500 v2.2 Set List backup folder when I was writting this. (I back up set lists with every update.) Sorry - no new firmware I edited the title to avoid any more Line6 update tease freak outs.
  14. Thanks for the answer stevekc. Guess that solves the problem. At least I can still open the old WB and see the tunings on the neck and copy that with the 500 or WBHD.
  15. I wanted to open and review some patches that I had saved in my old Workbench (i.e. a Variax patch from The Institute of Noise I loaded called Dust my Broom; Elmore James tri-cone tuning). I was able to open the program and opened the patch but it wouldn't change the tuning. Clicked on enable and got the message it is controlled by the JTV Model setting in alt tunings. That did nothing to alter the tuning. I had recently received a Java update and it asked me if I wanted to delete Java 6 which I believe is needed to run and configure the old WB. I stupidly deleted it. Can that be my problem? or Does old the WB not work with the new HD firmware v2.0 installed? I recently read that WBHD does not work with the HD500X but I'm using the original HD500. I thought maybe I can re-DL the old 1.75 WB and went to the Monkey and tried to DL it and got a message about the download is happening now or click here (which did not work and then got some blurb about a checksum utility for Windows XP and a checksum MD5 number and was directed to that utility). Before I goof something up on a whim to get into both WBs I figured I'd stop and ask a question here first. Any ideas about what might be going wrong? It's been a long while since I played around with the old WB and my JTV69 and hardly use the new WB HD waiting on Pod compatibility. Thanks in advance.
  16. You are supposed to be able to drag & drop a HD500 tone into a HD500X new tone slot in EDIT and then save it as a 500X file. talked about in this thread http://line6.com/support/topic/4204-new-69-owner-some-basic-questions/?hl=%2Bdrag+%2Band+%2Bdrop&do=findComment&comment=28697 here's a link to Sean Halley patches on Customtone I think the one that you want - that was in the blog video is called AccString SH http://line6.com/customtone/profile/seanhalley/4/#
  17. guilhordas - - "what is the exact name of the patch?" it's a post named - All Models Output Adjusted to match to quote oehman's post on VGuitar Forum (and they are all banks for download): All models output were adjusted to match Lester so switching models in mid-set (or mid-song) won't require a volume adjustment on my amp or pedals. I adjusted the output of each model using my POD HD & Headphones or a Fender Super Champ XD --YMMV. Custom1 was set up so I can play Acoustic in position 3 and toggle to Lester or Spank I didn't adjust the Reso Models I changed pickups on some of the Semi's Custom2 is all Masonite body with Strat pickups 9/3/13 UPDATE - SORRY I DIDN'T SAVE THE BANKS CORRECTLY IN THE ORIGINAL POST. These banks should be correct."
  18. This is the one cruisinon2 speaks of in his reply. Cool VDI Cable from Dunkin_Dal http://line6.com/support/topic/958-cool-vdi-cable/ his first post says: 15 ft Braided VDI cable for sale $35 he gives prices for other lengths in the thread and photos He makes them himself and uses shrink wrap on the ends He's in South Boston and ships fast I have an old Line6 VDI that I bought back when I got my 1st Variax 300 YEARS ago and it's going good to this day - the spare Line6 cable I bought years later is a real piece of sheeit.
  19. it's pinned to the top of the JTV forum - but here's the link VGuitar Forums >Variax >Tyler Variax WorkBench HD Patch Exchange http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=138.0
  20. I loaded the bundle on my 69...for now, until it's POD HD500 compliant, I used this until I find it easier to tweak without pulling out the charger, charging the battery, sorting out the cables and screwing with the USB dongle slipping off the computer table, etc... I'll use oehman's hard work of balancing till it gets easier to tweak with the POD like the good ole days. The models are really volume balanced nicely. I recommend it unless you want to balance on your own. my 2¢ BTW - all of stevekc's hard work putting together and moderating the VGuitar forum is helpful for other Line6 issues as well as Roland and other toys...Thanks Elantric! - a major storehouse of wisdom.
  21. It 's really too bad that there was not enough interest in the 700/705. I was going to snag one but they disappeared before I finally was able to buy one, just thought they would be around or a next version would be available before I picked one up. I kept hoping Line 6 would get a new generation back in the line up but I think Zap and brue58ski are correct. Plus the IdeaScale only has 40 votes for one. Either people stopped trying to get rid of them on eBay or the people who have them want to keep them (currently only one 705 w/ a BassPOD XT worldwide listed). Given that I had to ship my JTV69K back to Line6 5 times to get the trem and neck problems fixed and had to send my X3L in as a test subject with one of the first USB Dropout issues they couldn't produce in the lab - I'd willingly take the plunge and be willing to become an un officical Beta Tester/Guinea Pig if I had to to get one (4 or 5 string). Too bad there just isn't enough interest to persuade Line6 to go in that direction. It's funny because many people I've dealt with at Line6 from higher up marketing to support (like line6miller) are bass players. What a shame. Just my 2¢
  22. here's the table Allen wrench sizes: 1 - 1.5mm hex 1 - 4mm hex 1 - 5/64" hex 1 - 7/64" hex 1 - 3/32" hex 1 - 0.050" hex from Accessories included with James Tyler Variax guitars doc http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/accessories-included-with-james-tyler-variax-gu-r152
  23. In the Line6 Blog - http://blog.line6.com/ the post with Sean Haley acoustic videos on a JTV69 he states: So if you’re on the latest firmware for your James Tyler Variax, and you’re not able to get close to this sound with a blank patch in your POD HD, you’ve got some playing and setup work to do. Remember the three most important variables: I’m using size 11 strings, I’m using a sharp pick and my fingers at the same time, and I’m playing very lightly. Just thought I'd through this in here.
  24. Speaking of Attention Shoppers: Sweetwater is selling "Dent 'n' Scratch" JTVs JTV59 = $1049.99 JTV69 = $999.99 many are not in stock yet - they must be offing aesthetic B-stock direct from Line 6 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=s:dnsline6 they also have a couple of 59/69 demo prices this might be old news to many of you
