Did some tracking tonight. My chain was Guitar -> Pedal Board (with HX on it) -> DR Z Maz 38 Amp -> UA Apollo -> Pro Tools. I use the HX Stomp for two different applications. When using with my amp, it's just an effects box (vol/wah/reverb/delay) no amps/cabs. The second application is for direct USB into ProTools with amp/cabs/effects. My Dr. Z amps are normally quiet. You could hear a pin drop when the guitar volume is turned down. Beauty of point-to-point wiring by the Doc. Well, my amp sounded as noisy as a 63 Falcon. First troubleshooting tip is to always remove what's between your guitar and amp. So I went right from guitar into amp. Quiet as a butterfly. Plugged everything back in and loads of noise. Now this is where I asked myself, have I noticed this before... long pause... NO. What changed? Could be the USB cable plugged into the computer with the UA Console and PT running? I unplugged the USB cable and all noise went away. There must have been some weird feedback loop of audio getting fed from the daw or something. Weird because the playback device was set to Apollo Twin X. So, lessons learned I guess. Of course when I decided to do a few tracks with Stomp directly into PT, I used the USB again. This is the first time I've experienced this and can't recall why it happened.

Right on... I went back to my old standby ProTools. Now that I have PT2020 loaded, I have the best of all worlds, UA Apollo Twin X Duo, Luna, PT, HX Stomp etc... Loads of options now. But I have to say I didn't hear any audio issues going old fashion audio cables into my UA and then into Luna. If you have latency issues, you should put your plugs in the UA console not in the DAW. Problem is, I think only the Console loads UA plugs, which is why Helix Native probably has latency. I don't know I haven't tried it since I'm running the HX Stomp. For a fledgling DAW, I have to admit Luna is a great product. The developers are really in-tune with their users. I'm not keen on the work flow... the interface UX/UI needs to mature. Really big fat appearance, windows within windows, especially the mix window.. It looks like an old app from the mid-90's that was never sized well or the resolution was bad. If they could make the mix window a bit more Pro Tools-ish... that would be helpful. As far as console goes, my UA Apollo Twin X is fantastic and I love the ability to throw effects on and either not print or print with them or do the unison mic-pre's. Wish I had that YEARS ago. But it's all good... Now I just have to get creative and do something with all this gear... Creativity seems to be the hard part! Thanks everyone for chiming in. I think since 3.0 came out I haven't left the Princeton amp... Seems to be the probably the best amp for my taste. Rock-on everyone.

Mark as solved please. The functionality doesn't exist. I'lll just have to use audio patch cables.

Hi All, I'm using UA Luna as my DAW (temporarily) and was wondering if there is anyone using HX/Helix as an interface with Luna? I'm guessing the answer is no, as I've spent an hour futzing around trying to find out if there is a way to do it. Thought I'd ask...

Thanks! Got the answers I expected. Perfect, thank you!

HI folks, I know this question has come up a few times, but never got a definitive answer. Does the HX Stomp utilize USB 3.0 or 2.0? I know 2.0 works, and I haven't had a lick of issues. I just know there is a difference between the 8pin 3.0 and 4pin 2.0. I know for storage if you want 3.0 performance, don't use a 2.0 cable. I'm wondering if the same applies for the Stomp. Thanks in adavance.

URGENT: 3.01.0 Firmware with bugfixes just released
guitarboy_02451 replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Is there an update for HX Edit as well? Or just press on with pride on the 3.01 HX update? -
3.0 is awesome. For HX Stomp we're pretty limited on DSP, but we knew that right? - Love the Princeton - Horizon Drive ---> very cool! - Acoustic Sim ---> Way cool! All the new Fuzz's are pretty darn awesome. I a/b with my real Peppermint Fuzz... All the Poly blocks take up too much DSP. I can have an Amp+Cab module and Poly mod, and that's it. Nothing left... out of gas. I am super excited about the Favorites, and I have no idea what Command Center is. I'll have to see if anyone does any videos of that. Super impressed. It was like an early Christmas Gift from Line 6! Thanks guys and gals! :)

HX Stomp: Did Expression Pedal Assigments Swap in 3.0?
guitarboy_02451 replied to guitarboy_02451's topic in Helix
Forget everything I said here... Everything. PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair) ERROR! Some how whilst setting up the patch, I must have manually pressed the toe button and started setting things up. Quite honestly I don't know what I did, but I was able to just grab a new preset and start from scratch and it works just fine. Sorry for the false alarm... don't pour it on... try to be nice... everyone makes mistakes. :) -
First off, love 3.0. Thanks for all the goodies! I have the Mission Engineering Expression pedal with the toe switch. On 2.9 and below, the WAH Position was always assigned to Expression 1 automatically. Nothing for the end user to do. I would use Expression Pedal 2 to control the Amp Channel Volume. Normally when I drag a WAH into the chain, I don't have to set anything. The integration between L6 & ME is perfect. Now, I have upgraded to 3.0 and here is what I've found. I started a new preset, and added my WAH. It assigned Position to Expression Pedal 1 as normal, and FS5 to the toe switch. Perfect! I clicked the toe button, and started pressing the Expression pedal up and down. I could see the parameters on the wah changing 0-100 but it didn't effect the sound.. (no "wah). What I had to do was manually un-assign Expression Pedal 1 to the WAH, the re-assign it to expression pedal 2. Then to use my amp CH volume, I assigned that to EXP Pedal 1 (which defaults to the WAH). At this point, it works. Luckily I figured it out... but would appear they can add this to the bug list. Patch made in 2.9x Patch made in 3.0

Have you tried the DrZ model with the Z-Best 2x12 model. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I just added this request on idealscale: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Use-3-knobs-on-HX-Stomp-to-change-parameters/990026-23508?submitted=1 It would be great to use the three knobs below the display to tweak parameters on the fly, here are few examples: For example on a delay: - Delay Time - Delay Amount - Feedback For Over Drives: - Volume - Tone - Drive For Chorus - FX amount - Delay Time - Rate/Depth I'm not sure how one could select a block to tweak on the fly, but one pedal I ALWAYS tweak is my Maxon AD999 Delay. I love the ability to just use my foot to change parameters to match a song, or sound. It's simple and it works. Would love it if HX Stomp could do the same.

Will we see a new user manual or at least an appendix for the goodies that have been added? I went to downloads/manuals, and the only thing available is HX Stomp manual 2.65

hx stomp HX Stomp Issues with External Drive and Boost Effects
guitarboy_02451 replied to shokunin's topic in Helix
You could go to one of the settings in the Cab model, and setup a snap shot for like a +6 db boost. This would be after the amp model... -
Just noticed the latest user manual download is 2.65. New amp models are in 2.8x but not in the manual. I know 2.9 is around the corner but l6, can you please post a supplement?

I know there are a million questions about routing..
guitarboy_02451 replied to gtarmn's topic in Helix
Sorry, I misunderstood. You probably couldn't use your DAW, as the playback engine is already set to Helix for your USB recording. I have a Stomp and included the USB routing as it's laid out, but what you're trying to do is beyond my ability to help. I would think that you need some kind of mixer that the Windows Sound Card and Software recognizes. I know there are a lot of folks that live-stream or create YouTube videos, Jason Sadities is one such person who has his camera audio for his voice/video, and direct audio for his Helix (so no room mic noises are mixed in). He did do one video going over all his gear and studio. May be worth checking out. I only record to ProTools, and even at that I do not use USB audio, just regular 1/4 into my pre's... I hope either you figure it out or someone else here can help. usb.tiff -
Keep it simple.... OH gives you a doc and a folder called Quick Start which correlates to the doc. Grab a few, maybe like 6 (3 of one mic combo / 3 of another). Realistically when I record with mic's its usually a small diaphragm condenser mixed with a 57, or a 57 mixed with a ribbon, off center of cap. So applying the same logic, I only grab the IR's that have some kind of 57/121 or 421/121 and those come 4" off, or FAT or Mid-Fat. So that's about 3 of each. I also got the Celestion pack from the Market Place, G12H and G30, I believe the G12H is an open back cab. I like the OH pack I got 412 CB Recto Neo, despite of not being a Mesa fan. The G12H & G30 combination are in my existing DrZ Z-Best, and the Vintage 30 is in my Dr Z Carmen Ghia 1x12. So I when I'm in the digital world, I try to treat it the same as I would with non-virtual/digital rigs. (I hate to use the word "real amps..."). IMO, the amp models sound great either with IR's or with the native cabs by L6, but I always try to go with what is used with s specific amp. For us Stomp users we have to be mindful of the 6 blocks as well, so again I don't go crazy with IR's. I find the Friedman amp and Litigator take nicely to IR's... I've also found out on the Fender Twin, if you select the Twin Cab as a separate module, it's stereo! I was trying to figure out why the amp+cab and amp with separate but same cab sounded different. That kind of blew my mind. I had to go back and forth between what sounded better and what was more practical (giving up a block). Then I went back to simplicity and realized if I were recording one of my Z's, it would be two mics, two tracks (but summed as mono)... Meaning, when working with two mic's/two tracks, they're working together as one track. Again, if you apply what you would use or do in the real world (sort of speak), that should keep you out of analysis paralysis. Keep it simple

Couldn't you just import the backing tracks (stereo mix) to two tracks in Sonar, then record your guitar bits on another track and bounce all to two? -
- Litigator - Placator - Fullerton My ears tend to gravitate towards these... a lot! All take a Zendrive or Xotic AC boost very nicely, clean up well and sound great with both humbuckers in my Les Paul and may Strat (which has a 3-way tap Duncan Cool Rails).

Realize this is an old post. Very nice guitar playing, great tone! I agree, the Fullerton NRM is pretty amazing. I didn't even know what it was until last night, and it's not listed in my owners manual/pilot so I had to look it up. 5C3 1958 Fender Tweed.... My ears didn't lie to me, before I looked the amp up, I noticed in the mids and lows it had a sweet sag. I backed that off from 5 to 3. I love sag, as I have a late 50's early 60's rectifier in my 05 Dr. Z Maz 38, nice harmonic compression. The other thing I tried to do was clean it up a bit as it had some nice break-up. Then I decided to look up the amp to see what it's heritage was all about. First thing it talked about was Sag, how it had a sweet sag in the lows/mids, then it talked about break up.... I was like YEAH! Wow, L6 nailed it to the "T". So, I've been playing with it as clean as I can get, and have a Zendrive in front of it. WOW... Blown away with stock cab and mic setup. Haven't even played with IR's yet. Maybe I won't so I can keep my ears clean to what I already like.

So far I've been really happy with my HX Stomp sitting on my pedal board. I've identified three specific uses: 1.) Patches that just effects when fronting my Dr Z amps (no effects returns/sends). 2 with caveat.) Patches that have amps+cabs (or IR's) for Live or Direct recording. Caveat; With Direct recording, one doesn't need a lot of on-the-fly capability because you can tweak for specific performances. I initially loved the idea of "virtualizing" my existing pedal board in the Stomp. Meaning, running all my pedals through the FX loop... But what I quickly noticed was a.) all my pedals are mainly comp/od/dist and trem, and b.) in most cases they would sit in front of an amp at the beginning of the chain. Thus, I asked why am I tying up a block just to put pedals in virtual mode? I did like the dual functionality of the FX loop block because I also used the send level with my expression pedal as a volume pedal. I downloaded both Rhett Shull and Richie Castellano's HX Stomp patches and noticed, they don't use FX Loops... I also noticed that Rhett puts a Compressor as the last block, and it seems to really make a huge difference. It's not doing much compressing, as it is acting more as a limiter. That's what got me thinking of all this. So I rewired things and so far so good. Feel like I got another block back. I got darn good OD/Dist/Trem pedal, so unless I need to just bring the Stomp and nothing else, this seems to fit the bill. View shown here still shows me using the FX Loop

HX Stomp: Morningstar MC6 MKii & ME SP1-L6
guitarboy_02451 replied to guitarboy_02451's topic in Helix
Hi Phil, It does, thanks for the quick reply! I'm watching a Jason Sdites video now... very good stuff. -
HI, I'm wondering if these two units, Mission Engineering SP1-L6 Expression Pedal and the Morningstar MC6 MKii (via Midi) can be used together to control the HX Stomp?
