Line6 is doing nothing of the kind. Given their advances in guitar and amp technology, I would say they are attracting more customers. It is not unusual for tech companies to be poor documentarians. I know - I work for a very large tech company so I witness it firsthand. That's what these forums are for...to help users with questions so ask away ! I don't know what driver you're referring to, but just install the software and play with it. If you're worried about not having enough RAM, I would suggest you don't have enough. RAM has become very inexpensive so get 8GB so you can stop worrying. =:-)

I don't believe you can calibrate the tuner. If you need the tuner to tune and it allegedly doesn't work, how do you know you're out? =:-) (Sorry, I couldn't resist) I sometimes tune using harmonics. For example, on the low E play the harmonic at the 5th fret and then on the A, the harmonic at the 7th fret. Listen for vibrations. When the 2 notes stop vibrating, they're in tune.

To go from clean to distortion, put the 2 presets you like, the clean preset and the distortion preset, next to each other in the same bank. Then you can simply switch presets using the pedal. For example, put the clean in 1A and the distortion in 1B. Then to switch between the two, you just press 1A or 1B.

Where do you see that you get a free G10 just by registering?

The headphones work fine when plugged in to any other device? Can you plug something else into the headphone jack (doesn't matter if it's a stereo device) and do you get sound coming out of either or both headphone cups? Does the amp work fine other wise?

Try a different USB cable. Try a different USB port on your computer. Try a factory reset of the amp if you can boot up successfully. If not, that's bad news because you can't do anything if you can't boot up. In that case I'd say it's time for a service call. Good luck.

This issue has been discussed numerous times. Have you read all of those posts and tried the solutions? No, there is nothing in the software to initiate a connection. Once the USB drivers are installed on your PC, all you have to do is set the switch on the back of the amp to "PC", connect the proper USB cable between the amp and your PC, and, with the amp turned on, the software will initiate a search for the amp and if found, will load the presets.

I would say no. Bank changing is in the firmware or maybe even in the hardware.

The obvious question... Do you have the DST effect turned on on those presets?

Bad cables, wireless battery going bad, blown speaker, undesirable effect settings, there are numerous causes for the symptom you describe. It would help if you give us an example of one preset and what FX are active, and what your complete guitar to amp setup is.

The function on the Spider Remote for Andoid that is the 3 horizontal dashes which allows one to exchange the location of presets, or at least that's what it does when one is in a single bank, when one tries to exchange among banks, e.g. between bank 1 and bank 23, the function is no longer exchange. The function then becomes insert which has now completely screwed up all my presets because they are now all bumped up by one location. Grrr. So which is correct? Insert or exchange? Or is it intentional that they behave as exchange within a bank but insert between banks? And on top of that. Because I tried to stop this insert by pulling the USB cable out of the Android device, on subsequent uses of Spider Remote, the download from amp to Spider Remote hangs and eventually the data connection is lost. Not happy. UPDATE... Thank goodness all I had to do to get Spider Remote working again was to turn the amp off and back on. I'm still not happy about the exchange versus insert issue.

My $.02... I've been using Line6 amps since the days of AX212. I like the versatility because I've been in cover bands forever, trying to make my guitar sound like the tunes I'm covering. (But I also like to randomly choose a preset and just improvise to see what the preset inspires me to play) I agree that many of the stock sounds are undesirable... for my needs. But there are also many I use as a starting point. What I always do with modeling amps is to go through all the presets and note on paper which presets I like without any adjustments. Then I go through that list of presets, decide which ones I want in my battery of sounds and tweak them to get them sounding just the way I want. Tweaking means adding or subtracting Drive, Compression, EQ, Reverb and maybe adding a little Delay or Chorus. Usually I need 4 presets for rhythm - clean, clean with some edge, distorted and balls-out distorted - and 4 more presets using those same presets but with a volume boost for solos. For 90% of songs I cover, those 8 presets will get me through a gig. Then I'll need maybe a dozen more for special effects presets like "Living on a Prayer" for which I need a reverse auto-wah. And that's how I work. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun playing with guitar technology. It satisfies the computer geek in me. :rolleyes: And like has been said before, the wireless feature of the Spider V was a deal-maker but also a deal-maker was the reduction of weight in the 120 and 240 models. Add to that the major reduction in price I got because I'm a frequent customer at the local ma and pa store - always a good way to get good prices. A last thought... what is critical to preset tweaking is knowing that the sound changes DRASTICALLY as you change the Master Volume. At low master volume levels you'll find a lack of high end and low end, but if you compensate for that lack, you'll find that at high master volume levels, like those you would use on stage, you've got way too much high end and low end. So you need to tweak presets with the volume level as close to stage volume as possible. Ask your neighbors for forgiveness in advance ! PS - In case you're wondering, PEQ = "parametric" EQ which means an EQ effect that allows you to set the center frequency of the slider you'll use to add/subtract the amount of equalization at a given frequency (as well as setting the "Q" or width (range) of the affected frequencies on both sides of the center frequency). For example, if I feel I need more bass at 160 Hz, but whereas on a GEQ (Graphical EQ which does NOT allow you to set the frequency center or width) effect there is no slider for 160Hz (7-band GEQ effects usually have sliders for 120 Hz and 240 Hz), with a PEQ device I can set on a slider the center frequency to be 160 Hz. PEQ gives you the most versatility for EQ'ing a preset. Keep in mind that you're EQ'ing to compensate for "bad" acoustics of the room in which you're playing, of the amplification device(s) you're using and of the acoustic properties of your guitar's electronics and wood. The guitar and amps won't change from gig to gig, but the room acoustics will. I create my presets in my studio which is wall-to-wall carpeting (tends to deaden or absorb the sound). When I perform, the rooms typically have more reflective surfaces which result in amplifying various frequencies (whose effect is less a consideration as more people come close to the stage to dance - yes, peoples' clothes do "hide" some of the room's reflective surfaces!). You won't want to create presets for every room you play, but do understand these dynamics so you don't end up judging your setup whose sound is affected by the acoustic environment.

I'm pretty sure I'm understanding all I've read but want to air my question here. With the Spider V amps and the FBV 3 pedal, one can assign only a single effect to each of the foot switches 2-4, right? (And FS1 is always compression and FS5 is always reverb) For example, I can't assign both DST and DLY effects to foot switch 2, right? And that's because there is no way (that I can see) to assign effects to foot switches other than editing and assigning the effects to FX1-3 on the amp. It would be nice to have the functionality like on the HD500X pedal where I can place effects anywhere in the chain and have multiple effects in the chain. Of course I don't want to get into suggesting that Spider V should contain the functionality of all of Line6's amp and pedal features. But it would be a nice enhancement to be have on the Spider V LCD some new menus where I can be explicit about to which foot switch I want to assign my chosen effect instead of having to figure out that one assigns effects to foot switches by turning knobs FX1-3.

There is no bank button. You use the rotary knob under the display.

I routinely keep my G10T plugged into my Spider V when I'm not playing. I think that's a good habit to have so that the G10T is fully charged whenever I want to play. I've had my rig for only 4 days. Suddenly tonight my G10T was not charging while plugged into the amp. I know the amp has to be plugged into the wall in order for the G10T to be charged. I'm hoping I don't have a defective G10T. Does anyone have any ideas about what night be going on? Thanks. UPDATE... I found that if I leave the amp on, the G10T is now charging. So that tells me the G10T is not defective, but isn't it supposed to charge while the amp is off as long as the amp is plugged in to a wall outlet? No, it's not a switched outlet. Hmm, curious. The only difference between now and when the G10T was charging as expected is that now I have the cable to the FBV 3 plugged into the amp. That can't be the cause, can it? The G10T won't charge with the amp off if the FBV 3 cable is plugged into the amp?

Hi. I just posted a similar question but using an FBV3-external pedal to control wah in the Spider V while the FBV3 pedal controls volume (post title is "Control wah effect in Spider V with FBV 3 external pedal?"). I'm getting an FBV 3 today and although I know it can interface to the wah effect in the Spider V, I'd like to be able to have the FBV 3 pedal be used for volume at the same time that an external pedal is used to interface to the wah effect in the Spider V. Can someone provide step by step instructions on how to do that? I know there's the FBV3 Control app and I assume there would have to be something in it with which to setup what I want. I've read the FBV 3 Pilot Guide, but it doesn't address using an external pedal. Thank you. UPDATE: I looked around and found an FAQ that, I think, says that when I use an external pedal, it automatically controls volume on the target device and ONLY volume can be controlled. I guess I can verify that statement by experimentation.

Here's a tip if you want to improve your musicianship. Don't rely on what other people tell you. Go to a store, try out the amp, bring your own guitar if you want, and decide for yourself if the amp has presets that sound good to you. This way you'll develop your own sense of what "good" means musically to you. I think you'll find there are many good presets for hard rock playing. The Line6 amps always have had presets to satisfy all different tastes in musical styles.

Post later than yours says no, pedal cannot control the amp parameters, only the effects. You could submit a request for your wish using the forum for requests which I cannot find.

Hence, the reason for my request. It would be so easy to implement. All the app has to do is save off into a file all the settings the app is displaying. That would be backup. Then restore would be to read the saved file, display the settings and send the settings to the amp. Easy peazy ! I could do it in less than 100 lines of code.

Can we please have backup and restore capability in the Spider Remote app so we can backup any changes we make on the road and restore presets if something should happen while on the road?
