So I Finally Jumped Ship, Dumped My Hd500 And The Last Of My Line 6 Gear.Palico replied to EOengineer's topic in POD HD Oh and I don't like even sequnce parts to fill in the sound. But that I don't mean to imply your not a musican because of it. It's not a question for me of the musican's ability. It's the audencies preception that I don't like. The average audience member thinks that the entire sound keys and all is coming from musician's live. Watch any of the country music "stars" and you see one guy with acoustic guitar. But you hear drums, maybe serveral acoustic parts, bass, keys etc... What do I do when the song calls of keyboard and I don't have a keyboardist. Improvise the parts on guitar or rearrage the song to fit what I have to work with. It then doesn't sound the original, which I element I like about live performaces. I can listen to the Tape/CD/MP3 anytime I want. Anyway I digress, I don't particually like it but I'm not nocking your ability because of it either, unless as was pointed out it's actually ALL prerecorded and the band pretending to play.

Okay, that makes sense with the Reverb and could be actualy useful as it would be kind of global so I could dial just a bit into the Channel A and then no matter what patch I use it will have touch of reverb to accomidate the room. On the Cab, so the DT is supposed to model the Cabs as well? Didn't know that I figured it would be cleaner with "No Cab" setting. I did notice the defaults all include one. But getting a 1x12 to sound like a 4x12 just don't seem like it's gonna happen at the actual speaker itself. Below you can see the Topogly setting I'm referring to. I can see where I can change the power amp Class to A/B or A and I can see that on the DT as well when it defaults in choosing a Amp. Using the DT by itself chaning that basically changes switch basically changes the pre-amp I'm using and brings in the defaults for the power amp. So when using a HD500x it should default that approprately to setup the other settings? All I've seen it use was "I" but I have not dug greatly into yet, only used the Solo SLO100 overdrive, and bassman for custom patches yet.I would have thought the SLO100 would have settings closer to the IV setting as far as the rest of the setup.

I've got my new rig tongether and just now getting to play around with it. I love this rig. Variax500 VDI to HD500x w/ L6link to DT25 combo. I've been using the "Pre" models along and setting No cab as it seem logical to let the DT25 combo have it's sound on the cab. I noticed the weeked that during a performance I had way too much reverb in the sound. I turn my reverb off on the HD500x but it was still there. Then I noticed I had left the reverb knob up on the DT. So I reached around and zeroed it, problem was solved. But it got me to thinking althought I know the knobs are sync'ed the reverb seemed to have largely be coming from the DT when I had too much. Does this apply to some extent to the DT as well? I see in the "HD Edit" software you can cofigure the power amp to be what ever you want if you want to tweak the sound way from the original. But I also see you can set the Topology as well. I've been leaving this to "I". Since the HD500x is providing the Pre amp model does setting the toplogy even matter?

Is possible to put EQ after the Amp model and cut a bit somewhere around the 9k to 10k mark? Usually the fizz is around that mark.

So I Finally Jumped Ship, Dumped My Hd500 And The Last Of My Line 6 Gear.Palico replied to EOengineer's topic in POD HD WOW. I've seen plenty of acts where it just a singer/guitarist and they play to backing tracks usally including backing vocals but the vocal and the main gutiar part, usally acoustic, they play. Never seen anyone that I know was actually pretending to play. I really don't like it much because it is true and sad that some ppl think all that noise comes out of just a guitar and it doesn't help the local bands thay are playing everything, as they don't have an $$$ studio full of gear and undo and autoturne to get it all right. I can say some audiences get thought. When you add solos or breakdown parts or just change th e song they can fell the live vibe to your music. As for tone, I've always been in the camp that tone comes mostly from your hands and mind, not the equipment. Great equipment helps no doubt. But when I've played thought expensive gutiars and amps, I still sound like me. But I want the good stuff, becuase it makes me comfortable with my sound. I can say I'm still hooked on my tubes after all these years too. To me nothing quite sounds like them. The DT amps are mecca for me becuase it's best of both worlds scenerio. I just got my DT25 combo and HD500x. Before I was using an X3 with Atomic mainly for the tubes in the Atomic. Just can't break my tube habit, even in our digital world!

I got the DT25 hooked up my PC today and Flashed it to lastest version. It sounds much better now as far the gain structure is concerned. Of couse today I had the chance to turn it up a bit more. Thanks for the info. That helps me understand how it works and the best ways to utilize it.

Ah I saw it in the DAW but didn't think it was working. I'll try it. Thanks.

I have had my X3 Live for a couple years now but it's getting moved to just stuidio work. I used Monkey to download. Checked License manager and I have the X3 autorized. It shows Pod Farm 1 as software. When I click on the link it creates on the desktop it seems to think the X3 is not hooked up. Gearbox shows the X3 perfectly fine. Also in the drop down of devices to "pretend" to be I don't see the X3 as even an option. What am I missing here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfZprArQtUQ Line6 Support - Getting a Hendrix Wind Crys Mary tone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYhtePV9ki4 Line6 Support - Getting EVH Ain't talkin bout Love tone. In both Vids they start by using a Plexi Lead 100 Normal. I A/B on two tabs and indeed the screen shot of the setting look exactly the same. But when they play the guitars sound different to my ears. If you watch the vids on down you can see the both starting out with a Lester pickup which the both change to fit the scenerio. So which one is the real sound of what the default is?

Cool! Thanks guys I'll have to give it try. The documentation seems to indicate Pod Farm Plug-in was needed to use it in VST type mode. The Plug-in was listed as standard with the UX series etc.. but addtional add-on for the X3.
-
I'm thinking of the VST which looks like it's an additional cost according to the documetation. Oh well.

I have Pod X3 live, I've had for serveral years. I record some with it for fun but not doing too much. I got a DT25 combo yesterday and will be picking up a HD500x very soon. Becuase I use a Variax 500 and have not intention of getting the JTV, I'm keeping my X3 for recording purpose and so I have an interface to the old Variax workbench. So I'm gonna be using it now decided to recording. Is the older POD Farm an extra add on cost for the X3 or do I just need to setup it up correctly to use it?

So I Finally Jumped Ship, Dumped My Hd500 And The Last Of My Line 6 Gear.Palico replied to EOengineer's topic in POD HD Line 6 needs to watch those Fender Mustangs. They are not a competator for HD/DT units yet. But I played one in GC the other day to see how it was. I expected the Fender models to be on target but what suprised me was the Higher gain models were pretty dang good too. And the whole thing for like 300-400 bucks. But it didn't have the intergration of type of software control L6 has. I suppose it would be more of competator in the Spider series. But if Fender keeps developing it they could become take a good chunck out of Line6 business. I know I'm not game for switching yet. In fact I'm re-gearing now to more currnet L6 products (got my DT25 combo yesterday!) . But if Fender could offer me a real competition at the same or lower price point, yea I would at least consider it.

I just got my DT25 combo yesterday. I love the clarity and feel of this amp. The one thing I noticed was it seemed not to have as much gain as I expected. I could add a pedal in front of it as it responsed wonderfully. I was using a Epi LP that doesn't have great pickups thought. I set my channel volume up pretty high and the master turned down a lot. If i kicked it into low volume mode I had all the gain I wanted. So my question is for gain is better to turn up the master a ways and then use the channel volume to acceptable levels or the opposite? I want to kick the tubes into a bit of drive for some blues grit sounds and to drive the IV (Boogie) setting into a heavy gain.

Pod Hd 500x And Variax 300, Workbench Not Work.Palico replied to Sqwier's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench LOL. I thought I was the only one. A TeleShaped Variax with no pickups would be awesome. I'll buy it in heart beat. Wonder if the someone could gut a JTV and custom build something like that. But I don't know if the eletronics would function without them since L6 designed them with the Mags in mind.

Pod Hd 500x And Variax 300, Workbench Not Work.Palico replied to Sqwier's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench Ahh I found the plastic USB inteface can still be had from sweetwater for $100. Suck to drop 100 on a little inteface. Maybe I should keep my X3 live around since I would get about $100 in trade in for it. Just for the interface and I could keep it setup for home practicing. I love the flexablity of this digital stuff but the keeping the old setups working was eaiser! Also have to keep a machine around that can run it as long as I want to keep using this version. For Line6: Keeping just enough backwards comptablity in the new software to work with old hardware might be a good selling point. Gutiarist seem to like old equipment we comfrotable with.

Pod Hd 500x And Variax 300, Workbench Not Work.Palico replied to Sqwier's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench That though had cross my mind. A bit cheaper to get a used one too. When I do drop some cash I just try to get caught up technology wise. Keeping the Variax 500 mainly because I like the fact it doesn't have magnetic pickups.

Pod Hd 500x And Variax 300, Workbench Not Work.Palico replied to Sqwier's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench Hmm. I'm planning on getting HD500X and would like to keep my workbench for Variax 500. Any where I could find the list of compatable devices to use for interface to the old workbench? Is only the older POD units? I really would not want another one around but if I could pick up old bean or something cheap just of that.

I guess it's not possible to assign a button to act as Channel switch either? The paradime of saved presets works well for some things. But I like to look at the board as bascially a replacment for the Amp and pedals. So on old school setup I usually have amoung my pedals a amp foot switch or A/B swtich (if going to different amp for gain tones). You can kind of mimic that with the dual amp.

I think you mean you don't want to use the X3 amp models but just use it's FX. I've never tired, but to use it in FX in front of your regular amp would be pretty easy. Disable the Amp/Cab on the X3 (set to No amp/cab) and you only have FX, then run into the front of your amp. However; all the FX will be in front of the preamp on your regular amp. Some like Delay don't work real well there. Not sure if there is a way to route those differntly. Maybe someone else can know the answer to that.

That is great info. Any other deep dives archived out there?

I was reading some thread that the ME EP1-L6 using a 10k resisitor which causes the pedal to only use about 70% of the throw. I'm looking to get a expression pedal to use with a HD 500x live. Does the Ex-1 not have this problem? I understand the ME is heavy metal pedal but that would be show stopper for me as I plan to use it mostly as a volume pedal.

I will be trading in my Pod X3 live very soon for a POD HD 500x. I have pretty nice bag for the X3. Does anyone know if the X3 bags fit the HD or is it bigger?

Thanks for the great information guys. The Atomic decided to help speed up my decision by blowing out last weekend. The amp guy says the power transformer is shot. Time for the DT25.
