  1. I know that is not what it was initially designed for but… With the HX stomp getting command center and 8 blocks in the most recent updates Is there any reason why the HX FX couldn’t get the amp models?
  2. Hi all. I know they are barely out, but wondering if anyone has tried using the amp/pedal switches (and snapshots/command center) on the HX Effects to toggle channels on the new Boss IR-2? In theory it looks like it should work, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a Boss unit yet. If it's like the switching on other Boss pedals with an external switch input, I assume it would be fine? Thoughts welcome!
  3. I created a bunch of patches for an upcoming gig (first time live with the HX FX). Some patches are merely a clean sound with a compressor, others add a pitch shifter to that, and yet others are more complex with a Fuzz, Overdrive and Distortion. As most of the individual effects have one or more parameters to set their individual volume (or level or drive), not all effects have the same overall volume level. I want to save the sound engineer from a heart attack each time i change presets so i was wondering if there's an easy way to set the same output volume for all those patches. Now i attempt to balance the parameters of the different effects separately, but i'm afraid it's not good enough like that. Any suggestions? TIA PS this is for an active bass guitar, and I don't use any expression pedals.
  4. After a year of being frustrated between my love of my HX FX and my annoyance with a board that was over sized to accommodate varying power supplies, I discovered that the True Tone 1 Spot Pro CS6 will power the HX FX. Previously I was using the same pedals as shown below, but on a Pedaltrain PT-1 with a rat's nest of splitters and short extension cords below to cope with plug blades in 2 orientations (you can't plug the adapter from the MXR supply and the Line 6 into the same strip and put it under the board. So now I have my HX and a few choice pedals on a Pedaltrain METRO 20! The power supply fits under the board, doesn't require a voltage doubler, and the CS6 comes with all of the cables you need (Line 6 and polarity reversal; the L6 plug switches polarity, but you have to switch it back on the HX). So good. Truetone's website says that it will work because it's a different kind of PSU (I think it's switching instead of transformers, you can look up the video for their explanation). While the port says 500 mA, it will allow the unit to draw more. They have to list a rating for testing and approval to sell it, but it will allow the HX to draw what it needs. Been using it about a month. No heat issues, no quirky behaviors. So happy to have a nice small rig now.
  5. I play in a duo, where I play guitar with a mimicked bass simultaneously (Royal Blood, Local H sort of thing), and I am trying to figure out a routing system that I would like to run through the HX Effects. I would like to use the two inputs and two outputs in independent pathways in something like this: Guitar: Input L -> Effects, etc. ->Output L Fake Bass: Input R -> Mute On/Off -> Output R Essentially, all I would really need for the fake bass pathway is for it to be muted or not. I am attempting to make presets on HX Edit (OS High Sierra 10.13.6) with the Y Split, and pan 100% left and right for A and B, but does that work for both inputs, or do the inputs get summed immediately when they enter the unit? What is the best way to prevent signal bleed between the two pathways when doing this? Once the paths reach the end, how do I designate which output they go to? When making the A and B path, it looks like my B path goes to Send/Return, or I can put it back to Outputs. Do I use another block to pan left and right again? Would that cause signal bleed at that point as well? Thank you!
  6. Happened with every firmware version. After some use, when moving a block in hx edit crashes the connection with the helix fx, the unit freezes. Then i have to reboot the unit to reconect. No usb hub. Is this a known issue?
  7. What is the actual maximum power draw of the HX Effects?
  8. Hi Guys, Just starting out, predominantly play classic/80's rock and interested to know best/user friendly way of creating and editing patches. Also need some help on channel switching. My current set-up is a 75w Boss Waza (x4 channel amp) and I will be using my MacBook to connect to the FX for updates etc. 1. Will I be able to use the FX to channel switch over the four channels? 2. Can I use the HX FX to play via my computer eg like my old POD XT? If so how do I set that up? 2. Any recommended go to videos/tutorials to start me off? 3. I used to own a POD XT and uploaded tones from other users. Is there such a facility for the FX? 4. Any suggestions gratefully received - I feel out of my depth at the moment.
  9. Can someone explain me how all the parameters of the autofilter work? or any page where i can read it would be good too
  10. Hi, So this might be a bit long winded but i want to make sure i explain evertyhing as best i can. So im using the HXFX to channel switch, as well as control external drive pedals in front of my amp, via midi controller (morningstar ML5). I'd also like to run time based effects in the effects loop of my amp, but can not seem to figure out how to set this up in the unit itself. If i run from send 1 to send on my amp, and return from amp to return 1, I get very little sound. Yes, i have checked the settings for line/inst levels...and theyre good. if i run a cable from send 1 to send on my amp, i have volume, but my channel switching volume is cut, in that you can barely tell what channel is on, still loud, just no difference really. I've read the manual, it wasn't helpful and i could not find any videos of the setup that were not 4cm, which is not what im after. I know that i can do this, because ive seen it used on other boards, i just really dont know how the routing should be inside the HXFX. see pics below for how my board is set and also the HXedit of how i understand the routing should be. I would appreciate any information at all.
  11. Im new to the hx fx and could really use some recommendations and help regarding impulse responses. I run my guitar through a bbe sonic maximizer and then through a vox Ac50 ( with upgaded tubes, and V30’s :) ) I run the hx fx in 4cm. My band rehearses D.I. Into the mixer ( drummer plays a roland TD30, so its really nice) but its still important for me to use the AC50 as the tone is incredible and regardless of the fact we all use “ in ears” live and in rehearsal im using a moderate amount of amp volume on stage and blending it with my D.I. Signal into the P.A./monitors. Thats why i was really excited to use impulse responses. Heres where i can use some help/recommendations and opinions. 1. Ive played around with placing the IR block before and after the Fx loop 1 block. so far I prefer it placed after, but i cant really tell much of a difference. Anyone have any info or experience with this? what is your preference? 2. I downloaded a bunch of IRs . I have some “speaker” ones (the allure pack) and those all seem pretty useable. One of the best results ive had so far is the V30 IR (from allure) I have the mix set to 100 and the volume somewhere around -6.5 -8.0 db I also find it totally necessary to use the low cut feature as the bass frequencies easily start to overdrive. Changing IR,s the confusion/frustration/doubt starts to set in. Heres some examples- Acoustic guitar resonace ir’s i have , including this hollowbody ir i have sound absolutely funky. Maybe they are crappy idk but its led me to believe that IR’s work best emulating something similar to your sound. I mean i run v30s out of my cab. So running a V30 IR after my effects loop block seems to make my D.I. Signal sound alot more like my amp and that is a wonderful result. but trying to make it sound like a jazz box, or a hummingbird acoustic, is experimental and probably wont yield good results. However, i did load a gods cab (its like a 6505 with a mesa cab and a sm7b mic) it needed a ton of low cut. And it really overdrove my signal easily. But at -8.0 db lvl with 100mix and a low cut, when i added a distortion, i got a killer sound. I mean awesome metal tone. some feedback or personal experience on this would be a godsend. 3. So to some it up into some more direct questions. whats with the overdriving? are some of these ir,s supposed to be distorted? where as some are just clean cabinet/mic “simulations” (or moments in time whatever you wanna call it) -8db seems awful low for a level setting should i be looking elsewhere? what kind of mix and level do you guys use? Is 2048 samples always better? Anything pertaining to using impulse responses with hx fx in 4cm especially settings would help alot. If in the end i can properly add an IR to all my presets resulting in my DI sounding more realistic and just having better tone altogether i would be very happy. just dont know if im doing it right.
  12. Hi everybody, the more I explore into my HX FX the more ideas I get, especially thanks to the awesome flexibility over the signal chain. I spend all my time in the signal view. I'd say I'm using the helix more like a creative tool, rather than a tone one. That's way I got the HX FX and not the full floor unit. I was hoping there were more discussion about the creative/experimental side of things. I mean... having two separate chains (and having one at 100% wet) opens up to a hell lot of creative possibilities. First big question I have is: how to have blocks like volume and gate being automated by the tempo to create for example auto-volume swells (tight to the BPM and not to dynamics and such like Adrianswell or Vintageswell). I can't use a pedal to do this 'cause I'm already dealing with playing the guitar and singing and change the sounds etc.. The gate idea is even crazier so I try to paint a scenario (assuming I'll be playing tight as hell): I have two signal path A&B. Let's say A is the "guitar" channel and B is the "Crazy". I play fingerpicking and I want the bass notes only (thumb picked) to be picked up by the B signal chain. I know I'll be playing a bass note every let's say quarter, so I'd have a gate to mute the incoming signal every quarter, therefore getting a quarter notes bass line to process as I please (for example with harmony pitch or multitap to create basslines). What do you think? Do you guys know any workaround? Thanks in advance
  13. Hi All, I recently purchased the new HX FX and was doing some test using the 4CM with my amp (EVH 5150 III). I would like to get 4CM together with IR cab loader, in order to have a parallel path on the HX to feed my DAW or PA with cab simulation. Right now, to achieve this, what I came with is: - Set the OUTPUT L/R as line level and connect these to my DAW - Set the S/R Loop 2 to instrument level and connect the send 2 to my amplifier - In path A, put the IR loader - In path B, put the SEND2 Loop block But in this way, I am using ad additional block (the SEND2 loop block), I cannot use the 2nd loop anymore, and I have to change the global settings (and also the patch construction chain) in the case I need to return back to the standard 4CM. I wonder if there is better way to achieve 4CM together with IR cab simulation. Thanks for your help!
  14. So i LOVE the tones i'm getting from my Helix, but when a friend came over and i played his pedalboard fit with all the Tone God pedals.... i want them back! i want them all back! i miss my El Cap, I miss my King Of Tone! So how about Line 6 make a Helix Amp Only pedal? It could be half the size of the HX Effects (heck, even inter lock with it or something) and just do Amp Modeling, IRs, and maybe ONE effect.
