jlanyon
What kind of amp do you use with the variax guitars? What is the best amp to use and record with?
cruisinon2
There is no answering this question without at least a hint of what sound you're trying to attain. Fusion, country, death metal, jazz, adult contemporary, classic rock, 80's hair metal? You could be in a tribute band playing Polka versions of Devo tunes for all we know. And there's a thousand options for each of the above...Boils down to what you like and are comfortable with. A "best" amp option doesn't exist, for a Variax or any other guitar. If it's an amp you like, then it's the right one.
psarkissian
Ditto that. It's a very individual thing, it's what fits you, not somebody else. Go out and play different Variax guitars with a variety of amps, and see what gives you your sound that speaks to you and your musical voice. It sometimes takes some trial and experimenting to finds one's own musical identity.
portage_60
I use a Line 6 Duoverb, it does the job great with my JTV59. The Line 6 clean channel works fantastic for the acoustic tones
Matt_Brown
As the other posts say this is very subjective. I would give a DT25 or 50 a go. When you have a guitar that can be loads of different guitars you may as well have a valve amp that can be loads of different amps. Add an HD POD and you have a dream rig... vmoncebaiz
I've never been happy running both acoustic sounds and the modeled electric sounds into the same rig. Usually you'll be able to tweak one type to sound really nice while the other one suffers. Best cases I've run into have been using an A/B switcher and sending the variax to a small acoustic combo for the acoustics and rest banks (the Fishman stuff is usually my go-to when Im demoing in stores). Then use whatever electric amp you prefer for the magnetic pickups and the electric models. You can get away without having to bring a second amp along if you send one side directly to a PA. Usually using the acoustic models on a pretty dry path (no amp and no cab modeling) with a little reverb and compression sounds nice right into front of house. If you happen to use an HD500, FirehawkFX or Helix you can do the A/B type routing inside the box.
maxnew40
I use an HD500 and an L2 speaker (my whole rig is Line 6). It sounds amazing for both electric and acoustic. -Max
dugbug
What kind of amp do you use with the variax guitars? What is the best amp to use and record with? You just want something for the home to compose with? or are you going to gig with it or play with other musicians? Do you use a firehawk fx? The firehawk fx can power the variax and control all of your HD tones, including commanding your guitar into its various modes. That way you can get a relatively cheap and clean amp and keep your tone banks in the firehawk.
Rewolf48
The just announced Firehawk 1500 Amp has a Variax socket on it
