New to Line 6 / HD500x - Best Vids to Start Learning?

Hi all

 

New guy here to both Line 6 and the HD500x. Not interested in using the presets and I would like to get right into creating my own tones, using the modeling features to their fullest potential. What are the best resources (vids/tutorials etc.) to start with?

Just dive in and experiment, however, HD500x Edit is definitely the easiest way to edit patches.

All good advice.

 

Just try to remember the signal chain you see in HDEdit is what would be on the ground if you had a box of pedals and a room of amps. It can get quite overwhelming and can cause a patch scramble tossing things together.

 

Start simple just an amp and maybe an overdrive. See how the different cabs and mics shift the tone. Build up from there.

 

Most importantly stop once in a while and just jam.

Yes, I came here to say almost the same thing that BillBee said.

 

Tutorials are nice.

But the most basic way to start using the device is: What was your rig set up like before you had the Pod? The Pod is now your entire rig in one box. Do the same on it as you did on the old rig. 

 

 

Yes, the HD500 can do way more than your current setup, but using it to its fullest will come later. You will get lost if you try handling the fancy stuff before learning the basic stuff. 

The basic stuff is no different than what you already do. 

Guitar plugs (as example) into a wah pedal, which plugs into distortion pedal, which plugs into an amp. So make your Pod include a Wah and a distortion pedal and an amp. 

 

 

We tend to over think things, and then make them more difficult than they really are.

Thanks for the continued replies and advice, all of which have been helpful. Pretty comfortable with the amps and mics at this point, and have been adding various effects and EQs with good but not great results as of yet,

 

I have several patches that are quite useful already, but I continue to make minor tweaks to help the tones sit in mixes in a more professional sounding manner. Each day things sound better and better! Loving the HD500x so far.
