invidiaboy
Hello, I bought an Helix a few weeks ago. I'm living in a flat, so I'd like to buy a good closed headphone. My helix is connected to a desktop. Although they're not the same prices, I hesitate between Beyerdynamic DT770 (80 / 250 ohm) and Audio-Technica ATH-M70X. Could you please give me some advice? Thanks for your answers
hideout
I would personally lean towards the DT-770 but really, it's a matter personal preference. Which one do you feel sounds best with all source material? Use that one. We all hear things in our own way so I wouldn't presume to tell you which one to pick. I can tell you that whatever patches I create using my KRK KNS-8400 translate to my JBL EON 610s very well but I would never say that the KRKs are the best. They sound good to me and I don't have issues with the patches I create using them. That's all I ask for in headphones. Unless you only plan on listening via headphones and even if you do, I wouldn't recommend headphones that make the Helix sound the best. Get ones that make everything sound good equally well. vmoncebaiz
I have the Beyer DT 770s and have used them for years. They are really nice sounding headphones, and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. But I still can't stand playing guitar through headphones, even really good ones. So while they'd be a good choice for your volume requirements, I would warn that playing strictly through headphones might not be the most fun you are allowed to have with Helix. Give the global EQ some thought, especially bringing in the "high cut" with high gain sounds as they can gets harsh very quickly with headphones. mileskb
I know this doesn't answer the specific question, but you should at least TRY the Sony MDR-7506 Headphones. There is a reason they have been so popular in studios for so many years. They are especially nice for the Helix because they can still articulate at high volume. Not great for your ears at high volume but the overhead is there, which is nice.
MusicLaw
Also try the Sony MDR-V6! They are nearly identical to the 7506, yet with a slightly different sound profile (preferred by some to the 7506) and typically available for a few dollars less. DunedinDragon
I've used most of the headsets listed here in different situations. My personal headset of choice is the DT770, but that's primarily because it's used for recording and when I use them I'm using them for long periods of time. They're the only ones I've every tried that I can honestly say I've sometimes forgotten I have them on (I'll get up to walk away and forget I have them on till they get yanked off my head). If you're expecting to be using them for extended periods that may be important.
Dshow
From the two you mentioned I'd choose the Beyerdynamic DT770. You might try out the Sennheiser HD380 Pro too and do a comparision if you have the change.
jbuhajla
Find a store that has multiple that they will let you try. Take your Helix and a guitar with you and test them.

Thanks to all of you for your answers. I'm living in a very small city in France, far away from big cities so I can't test headphones by myself. That's why I ask you this question :)
c00lkatz
I can vouch for the MDR7506 for sound, any of the Beyerdynamics DT series for comfort. I would go with DT880.
Ka5par
I have the Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro headphones and like them a lot. They aren't closed though, that might be an issue if you want to use them for recording with mics also. They don't keep outside noises out very well too.
