Uploading Tone - Selecting Pickup Type?

Really?   Can somebody please confirm this.  I don't see how 'it' could work such a thing out and in my case it's very wrong so I need to correct it.

Edit:  I've just gone through 10 pages of tones and they all have the humbucker icon, something wrong here, surely.

The wonky CT layout has been the same for a while now. I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

So you're saying it's a long standing issue which line 6 haven't been bothered to fix.  That's a very disappointing attitude indeed and one which doesn't inspire confidence.  Small stuff?  No such thing, you do it right or you don't.

I've uploaded a tone but can't change the pickup type, when I click on the humbucker icon all I get is a message telling me what it means, no way to alter it. Help please.  Thanks.

Can you post a pic of what you are talking about? I can visualize what you are saying.

Here's a link to the section:

http://line6.com/customtone/browse/helix/

To the right you will see a small pickup icon which is supposed to indicate which kind of pickup should be used for each individual patch.  It seems that this icon always defaults to humbucker and there is now way of changing it.  They should either get rid of the thing altogether, or fix it.

Woah, woah, let's hold up with putting words in my mouth. I'm saying for as long as I've been dealing with CT (not that long really) I've never dug deep enough to find a way to change it, nor have I really cared, nor has it really ground my gears.

Different strokes though.

It might not mean that much to a lot of us simply because we don't really depend on CustomTone for much.  I guess if you're new to the game it might seem more important.  But just download the tone and see if it works for you.  If not, either adjust it to fit your situation or trash it and move on.

There are so many variations on pickups I'm not sure humbucker or single coil means that much quite frankly.  A gen 4 noiseless single coil isn't exactly a single coil when it's wired in series.  It acts more like a humbucker.  And a humbucker isn't exactly the same as a Filtert'ron even though they share some design characteristics.  Not to mention split coil and in-phase/out-of-phase arrangements.

If you're uploadind just add a comment.  If your downloading, look at comments people have added.  That says WAY more than any icon anyway.

Personally I'd prefer Line 6 spend their manhours providing more capabilities for the Helix than worrying about a somewhat meaningless icon on CustomTone.

Well if you're not interested in the topic and have nothying to offer which may help, why would you bother replying to my post?  "Never dug deep enough"?

There should be no need to dig, click and change, that's it.

Fine, then get rid of the thing instead of having people messing around with it and wasting their time trying figure out how it's supposed to work.

I know, I'm being completely unreasonable with my sky-high expectations.

Just so you know, 99.9% of the people on this forum do not work for Line 6 and do not have the power to modify their website content. Some of the people here were just trying to tell you that the little symbol of the pickup really doesn't mean anything, hoping that it answered your question to help you out. If you are frustrated at Line 6's website, vent your frustrations to them, and not the regular guys here on this public forum.

It does mean something, it indicates what sort of pickup the poster recomends for that particular patch.  You may personally not be at all bothered about this, and have no need for it, but a lot of other peiople may find such information very helpful.  So as far as help goes, the "it doesn't bother me, so foreget about it" type response is less than useless, which is where the real frustration kicked in.  Why not simply say "Yeah, that needs fixing alright"  and have done?

First putting words in my mouth, now you're assuming things.

I am in fact interested in the topic, so interested in fact, that I took the time, during work, to reply and truthfully share my experience with Customtone. Unbunch the panties, sir. I suggest some Prozac, pot, or anger management. A pickup icon is the least of your worries it seems. Excuse me and I apologize.

"I've never dug deep enough to find a way to change it, nor have I really cared, nor has it really ground my gears."

What on earth made me assume that you weren't really interested?

No problem.

It's a topic that has been talked about before, most people said it wasn't that big of a deal, everyone moved on.

Now that's a helpful answer, thank you.  I had no idea the problem had already been raised.  When was this?  Do you have a link to the thread perhaps?

Maybe two or three years back when I was a fresh Pod HD user.

I see, so it is a long standing issue which line 6 haven't been bothered to fix then.   I'll have a word with them tomorrow.

Thanks again.
