Just saw this on my email...

I'm a never-ever-tried-modeling-before tube guy.  So I'm sure I'll have tons of questions.  Have lurked here and TGP for months while researching, but I think I'm ready.  I couldn't resist any longer when Sweetwater offered the FREE Helix Backpack with purchase of a new Helix.

My plan...  use Helix as a direct-to-the-board solution. Stage monitor with either my current vocal monitor in Ch B (QSC K10) OR pick up an extra K10 or a K8 to put behind me.  We don't usually mic or go to FOH with our guitars or bass, but if this works, it will eliminate carrying heavy cabs or tube amps.

Thanks for all the great info thus far.  I'm sure I'll become an annoying burden on all of you as I explore.

You may not have as many questions as you may think if you have experience with tube amps and "analog" effects. Lots of questions come from the "bedroom" players that don't understand amps, tubes, effects, cabinets, mics, etc... I think you will be pleasantly surprised. You've already got a great monitor, so you are in good shape. Enjoy!

Welcome to Helix world....

One thing that may help in your understanding that may sound strange at first, but really helped me get a better feel for how to deal with the Helix is to think of the Helix unit as a virtual recording studio rather than just a pedal board/modeler that you're plugged into.  The reason I say this is that the paradigm you're working with is far more similar to the way you'd set things up in a studio for a recording session...choosing which amp, which speaker set, they way it's mic'd, and where you're placing effects in the effects chain and how you're switching the routing.  The goal you're shooting for is to produce a polished studio sound for a live environment.

This is big. You're not simulating an amp in a room next to you. You're simulating sitting in a control room, listening to a miced amp in a studio.
