  1. Quick update. I filed a support ticket and they got back to me within a couple hours. They suggested I remove the knob cap and try pressing the shaft directly. Sure enough, that worked. Then after replacing the knob shaft, the knob itself is working as expected, all good! Perhaps the knob was pushed too far down on the shaft not leaving enough travel to engage the switch when pushed? In any case, its working now. Like I said, I am very impressed with the Helix ecosystem :) Thanks all for chiming in. Richard

  3. Thanks. The Modulation comment was spot on, it really helped to 'soften' the sound. I'm getting closer to it. I think I just need to play with the Master/Gain settings a bit now in conjunction with a distortion stomp to get a distortion with a shorter sustain like it has in the song.

  4. that's it it's ok, it works! Preset changes are made by sending a PC event (program change). In reaper DAW : In your MIDI track, you create a MIDI event (a note) where you want your program change. You right click on your note, properties. In the top drop-down menu (type), you choose Program change, in channel you indicate the MIDI channel of your pedalboard and in value you put the value of the PC you need by referring to the table on page 42 of the HX Effects doc (if you want preset D from bank 2, the value is 7; if you want preset B from bank 28, it's 109). The HX Effects is not displayed but in the midi device but you just have to select the Midi output of the sound card and activate it (and select channel 1). Thanks !

  5. Not at all I think. In my experience Line 6 wants beta testers who want to seek out problems and make sound recommendations for improvement. Fan boys are not good beta testers if all they want to do is extol the virtues of a product. A healthy disrespect is very useful. The desired attitude is "I want to bring this thing to its knees and make it crash spectacularly!" Edit: added the word ‘not’ which was originally omitted.... Fan boys are not good beta testers.....

  6. Hi Richard, If your “PRESET” joystick selector does not perform as shown in this video, you may need to have it checked out. It is not unknown for the tags on the joystick to require re-soldering. Not a big job, but possibly best if done by a Line 6 authorised service department, even if it is out of warranty as you say it is a pre-owned item. Hope this helps/makes sense.

  7. He's saying the preset button cycles through presets in the HOME VIEW, I think. He'd have to be able to press the preset button to get to the preset LIST, then use the joystick to navigate. Sounds like you have a bad part.

  8. Right? I feel like beer and live music are inseparable, haha.

  9. The Line 6 Updater is there - maybe you missed it, therefore I will suggest that you follow these instructions to see it you can get your box to work as a guitar processor and not a paper weight. First go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from "-ALL HARDWARE-" select HX Stomp, then leave the "-ALL SOFTWARE-" as it is, now select your Mac OSX from under the "-ALL OS-" tab. Now click the “GO” button. From the next page you can select HX Edit 2.92 for your Stomp, then below that you will also need the Firmware 2.92 Flash Memory. Now scroll right the way down the page where you will find Line 6 Updater version 1.9. Download all these items to your Mac. Ensure that any version of HX Edit that you may have is closed, and that you have your Stomp connected to your Mac by USB cable, then hold down “Page >” while turning the power on. You may see a blank screen, but keep going. Now, launch the Updater Utility and select "Offline Mode". Your HX Stomp and current firmware version should now show in the window, click on the dark green coloured band and you should now have the option to select a local file - point it at the Flash Memory file you downloaded (in the downloads folder on your Mac) and let it get on with the update. When it completes you can install the new HX Edit v.2.92 and you should be good to go. This information is supplied in good faith and no guarantee is given or implied - should this not succeed, I suggest you raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense - good luck.

  10. I really don't know what your problem is. I'm just trying to participate in a discussion about music equipment. It's one thing if you don't think anything I'm saying is interesting or valuable, it's another to go at people like this. And you were doing it before I showed up, with other users. Is it too much to ask that if you disagree with something someone said that you can keep the criticisms on-topic instead of attacking people personally? I came here to learn and bounce ideas off of other people who have similar interests, not to argue or defend myself. Please don't talk to me anymore if you can't do so in a civil manner.

  12. I also upgraded to Catalina last week on my MacBook Pro. Sadly I forgot about the disappearance of support for Line 6 32-bit software with the new OS, so I lost the ability to use Line 6 Monkey, as well as Line 6 Edit / Gearbox (with my Pod XT Live) and Workbench (with my Variax 500). Dang!!! I did look into ways of reverting to the previous Mac OS but it was a major exercise, so decided to swallow the pill and fall-back to using my old Win10 laptop & old MacBook to run the software which is no longer supported in Catalina. From a Pod HD500 perspective, I've had a brand new boxed unit sat in my attic since Line 6 had their fire sale when they introduced the 500X (around 2013-14), so decided to unwrap it to see if it would play nicely with Catalina. My excitement was immediately extinguished, as the unused unit wouldn't even get past the notorious "Update Flash" screen when powering up, so I had to use my old Win10 laptop to try to resolve by updating the flash memory. It was a long night but here are the steps that I tried .... Updated all of the Audio/USB drivers (V7.68) , USB firmware (V1.04) and Flash memory (V2.62) via L6 Monkey .... Not fixed! Tried pressing left rocker switch to factory reset ... Not fixed! Tried pressing right rocker switch to access test screen ... Not fixed! Tried reverting to older Flash memory firmware ... Not fixed! Repeated steps 1-4 using different USB cables and via different USB ports with different power settings ... Not fixed! Repeated steps 1-5 on an old MacBook ... Not fixed! Was about to give up at 1am this morning, assuming a bricked unit, but tried hitting the ENTER button at power-up .... miraculously the HD500 booted up with preset 1 displayed!! I have no idea why this method worked and I could not see any mention of it on the Line 6 forum pages. Maybe this will help other users? Once I had confirmed that the unit was working with a guitar & headphones I rebooted into the test screen and ran through the Pedal Calibration, Button checks, etc. All OK. After this the unit would consistently power-up without having to hit ENTER. All buttons and expression pedal functions seemed OK so I was confident to try to get the unit hooked up to the POD HD500 Edit software. Win10 Laptop: Installed POD HD500 Edit (V2.27) and opened the program. Plugged in HD500 running USB firmware (V1.04) and Flash memory (V2.62). HD500 hardware was detected and presets automatically loaded to Editor program. Able to load/edit/save & control preset patches via the editor or via the HD500. Catalina Macbook Pro: Installed POD HD500 Edit (V2.27) and opened the program. Catalina did not flag the software as 'unsupported' (signified by a white 'no entry' overlay on the app icon, then a pop-up message when opening the app) so I'm assuming that it must be a native 64-bit app. Plugged in the USB connection from the newly checked & calibrated HD500 running USB firmware (V1.04) and Flash memory (V2.62). HD500 hardware was not detected, hence presets did not load. Software reverted to 'offline' mode. Closed the program. Downloaded and installed the latest Line 6 Audio/USB drivers (V7.68) - Line 6 Audio-Midi Driver 7.6.8.dmg Rebooted the MacBook as per install instructions. Opened POD HD500 Edit program then plugged in the HD500 USB cable. HD500 hardware was detected and presets automatically loaded to Editor program. Able to load/edit/save & control preset patches via the editor or via the HD500. Screenshot (attached) shows preset patch 01B loaded. I guess the key step for me to get my HD500 hardware working with the HD500 Edit app on Catalina was to install the latest drivers and reboot. I'm assuming that the same approach should/might work for either HD500/500X hardware. Hope this helps folks. Cheers, Steve

  13. I reinstalled Helix Edit, the Drivers, and Line 6 Updater. When I reboot the HELIX LT it still says Boot Failure, and running the Line 6 Updater does not show any devices to select. I tried holding down buttons 6 and 12 and then turning the Helix on. The screen does say "Entered Update Mode", but Line 6 Updater still does not show any devices to select.

  14. Hey HO (here we go -again), You and I, and a great many contributors to this site are very well aware of this, but bro “zappazapper” doesn’t do “research” about this sort of stuff. If he had bothered to check out the video where Eric explains the history of the development of the Helix, maybe he would have been enlightened, but hey... I.can’t be bothered to let him know. This is getting tedious - as ever!
