What version of FLASH FW is shown on POD's display when you hold down the VIEW button to access the system settings? If it is 2.62 then your POD has been updated successfully and the USB ports on your computer and POD are both working as they should. However, there could be a problem (especially if your OS is windows 11) of incorrect or incomplete installation of the driver (responsible for communication between POD and computer). (Sometimes it happens that the security functions of an OS prevent the correct installation of drivers) Try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it again.. If that doesn't fix the problem, try uninstalling the driver again and try installing manually (ie not via monkey) the previous version that you can find in the DOWNLOAD section of this site.. PS: please remember that after each firmware installation it is highly recommended by the manufacturer to do a global reset and finally a calibration of the pedal to avoid any malfunctions _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

First save the presets you created on your computer if you have any, and then reinstall the firmware which is a procedure that offers the possibility to restore the original factory presets when prompted. And the question that gets asked during the firmware install procedure is: do you want to keep your presets? You must answer "no" if you want all the original factory presets (included the empty user setlists) to be put back in After the firmware install procedure it is highly recommended that you do a global reset and pedal calibration. When everything is done you can reload the presets created by you and saved previously on your computer but possibly using only the latest available version of the Editor _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Connecting Variax 700 to a Pod HD500X
hurghanico replied to kijang's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Check if the variax neutrik connector VDI has damaged bent pins, in which case the connection via VDI can't work, and replacement of that connector would be needed. Also check the neutrik connector VDI of the POD. Years ago I bought my Variax 700 online at a bargain price but when it arrived I soon realized that its VDI was damaged, so I replaced the neutrik connector and since then it has worked perfectly connected by VDI to my HD500X. Here is the pic of a perfect neutrik connector: Note that the variax cable could be also the culprit, if you have an ethernet cable that you are sure works fine, try using that to connect the variax to the pod. If the connection works then it is obvious that the problem is in the variax cable. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Perhaps the current power supply can no longer provide the required amount of current. I suggest to find and try another power supply, the original DC-3G or another equivalent with the same specs: 9V DC, 3A (3000mA) Plug length: 15mm, Diameter: 5mm, Center Pin (negative): 2.5mm note that 3A (3000mA) are necessary only if your unit is powering also a Variax, otherwise 1100mA (or more, not less) for the POD alone should suffice original DC-3G: .and below here a tested working good and cheap alternative: UpBright 9V AC/DC Adapter Compatible with Line 6 DC-3g _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

You're welcome.. Some years ago I suggested on "ideascale" to implement different response curves for the pedal since it only responds linearly. You would probably need a logarithmic response curve to be able to smoothly adjust the volume from zero to 100. Linear response is fine for adjusting many parameters but not ideal for volume. I wonder if in Helix they finally implemented differentiated pedal response curves. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

It seems to me (I'm not an electronics expert) that it is a component of the internal power supply that has blown, perhaps the power regulator. Unfortunately, as the component has exploded, it is no longer possible to read its complete code number which would be useful for finding an equal spare part to replace. The visible protection fuse may also have blown to protect the rest of the circuit, thus stopping the uncontrolled flow of electric current. Maybe it would be easier to find the complete power supply board assembly (on the left of your first pic) to replace the broken one. I don't think the cause of the breakup is what you assumed (2 audio interfaces active at the same time). I'm more inclined to believe it was a sudden current surge that caused an old, worn-out component to burn out. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

If you don't need to change presets between une overdub and the next, you could place the Looper fx at the beginning of the chain (using the dedicated command directly on the device) and insert a Volume fx assigned to the expression pedal at the end.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Given that typically guitar amplifiers compared to FRFRs tend to emphasize a lot BASS and TREBLE (i.e. those frequency ranges a bit weak in the pure signal of electric guitars and which therefore require reinforcement), in such amps, if you are connecting to the guitar input, in order to obtain instead an approximately flat response you tend to raise the MIDs a lot and lower the BASS and TREBLE, how much depends from amp to amp.. But if the amp is provided with FX LOOP you could better connect your multi-fx/amp modeler to its Return input usually placed on the rear panel. Doing so you bypass the pre-amp part of your amp and its gain and tone controls and the connection is direct to the power-amp getting an aproximately flat response mostly affected by the speaker mounted. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Output modes other than Studio/Direct are equalized for POD connection to real cabs/speakers for guitar in the room, the applied EQ is sort of a complement to get from the real cab (depending on the type) a similar response to the cab model chosen in the patch. The Studio/Direct mode is not equalized in any way and is certainly the most suitable for connecting POD to an impulse response loader, which loader provides the response of cabs/speakers, but miked/ready for recording (very different than connecting the POD to real cabs/speakers for guitar in the room). In any case, nothing prevents you from experimenting with each combination. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Based on L6 LINK Connectivity Guide for POD HD & DT Amplifiers when you connect two DT Amps they will automatically configure themselves for stereo operation. The 1st DT amp will receive the POD HD left channel audio signal and the 2nd will receive the right channel audio. So in POD it is not strictly necessary to set 2 equal amp models in the chain to obtain the signal in stereo from the set of 2 DT Amps, just one amp model is enough, unless: you want 2 different amp models at the same time or 2 different parallel chains of effects (path A & path B on POD, one on the left and one on the right), or you prefer the sound of stereo fx when placed before the amp model rather than after it but retaining the channels stereo separation. With only one amp model in the chain, the stereo effects to remain stereo must be placed always after the amp model because the amp model monoizes everything that precedes it. By doing as suggested above (with only one amp model A) there is no longer any need to have the amp controls knobs on POD affecting in sync also an equal amp B. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

..also.. if by chance there is a noise gate fx in your chain the problem could depend also on its setting, if so turn it off or set its threshold to a more appropriate value to allow the notes to have a natural sustain _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

HD 500x - Local Control - Unlock setting not working
hurghanico replied to steveglock's topic in POD HD
Surely the Local Control parameter set to Unlocked should allow the guitar Volume and Tone controls to work normally. If this does not happen there is an anomaly or the patch is corrupted (perhaps created with a different firmware version). As for the active model of the Variax, it should never be changed automatically by the patch when the Model parameter is set to: (don't force). I would recommend opening a new empty patch and recreating the preset from scratch copying all parameters except those of the Variax (thus leaving the Variax defaults as they are) and then save it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
jtv69s tone control on acoustic models reassigned in HD500x
hurghanico replied to cubbini's topic in POD HD
It may perform just one or both functions (expression control and vol/tone) depending on the POD patch settings.. the following video explains it all: _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
add a volume pedal block just after the effect that is too loud and assign it to the same footswitch as the effect, so that when you press the footswitch both the effect and the volume block activate simultaneously, unassign the volume control (by default assigned) to the expression pedal, manually select the desired volume parameter value. save the patch _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

With POD it is impossible to globally assign a booster (or whatever) to a certain footswitch. so whatever solution you choose for boosting you will have to add it to all your patches one by one.. if what you need is a clean (non-coloring) booster there are several solutions in the POD, and each of them allows you to place it wherever you want in the chain, so adding an external booster (as you hypothesized) is not necessary.. as examples: - if the FX LOOP is not needed for other typical purposes, you can insert a short patch cable from the fx send to the fx return, and insert an FX LOOP block in the chain to the chosen position, and set the Return level parameter of the FX LOOP block according to how many dBs you need to boost.. - otherwise as a clean booster you can use the Studio EQ which is equipped with a GAIN parameter.. In any case, the chosen block (FX LOOP or Studio EQ) must be assigned to the chosen footswitch in order to be able to activate and deactivate it _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

The Helix LT has all the features of the HD500X (double chain, a fair number of footswitches, onboard expression pedal, Variax connection and powering) and even more, the less expensive small brothers in the HX family (including the POD GO) all have something less (of the things mentioned above) than the HD500X, but their modeling engine is newer and more evolved, and they offer impulse response (IRs) loading for greater tonal variety. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

The expression pedal is not like a volume pedal which in certain models could also be active (ie acting also as a clean preamp/booster), it works differently, it only serves to control the values of a parameter of an assigned effect and does so in a range that goes from a minimum to a maximum that the user can adjust, it never works directly on the audio signal as a volume pedal would. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

MULTI means that multiple effects are assigned to the same footswitch (FS6 in your particular preset). The word MULTI disappears when unassigning those different effects and only one remains assigned to the footswitch MULTI significa que se asignan varios efectos al mismo conmutador de pedal (FS6 en su caso). La palabra MULTI desaparece al desasignar los diferentes efectos y solo queda uno asignado al conmutador de pedal _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

What you described only happens when POD is connected to the computer with the editor open and it happens because the editor keeps track of all the changes that take place in all the patches loaded into the program, (even just turning an effect off or on is a change), so when you select a patch in the editor it recalls it in the state it was left in when it was last used during the current session. The advantage deriving from this behavior of the editor is to be able to edit several patches and then save them all together with a single command. POD behaves differently when disconnected from the editor, and does not keep track of any changes made to patches already used when selecting the next ones, in this case the only way to make the changes permanent is to manually save (directly on the device) each patch before selecting the next one.. So when POD is disconnected from the editor when a patch is selected it is always recalled exactly the way it was saved. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Park all pots to max, as there is a very small neutral zone at that point where any jittering problems shouldn't happen (alternatively you could also park them all to min for the same reason) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
