  1. In your audio configuration above your computer records through the POD but plays back the audio through the internal speakers which in turn are (and can only be AFAIK) connected to the system's integrated audio interface. Normally speakers (or headphones) should be connected to the device currently selected as the AI by the OS and/or application in use, thus by the AI generating the audio (i.e. the POD in your case, and not the built-in AI). Therefore in your audio configuration as an output device you should choose the POD and you should connect some external speakers (or headphones) to it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  2. At this point open a support ticket to speak directly with the Line6 official support guys https://line6.com/support/tickets/ Good luck _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  3. Regarding high impedance headphones I can confirm that they sound softer than low impedance headphones and therefore require a higher volume setting in comparison. But,... probably the perceived volume difference between your headphones and monitors is mainly due to a reason you haven't still considered. Your monitor inputs are designed for LINE-type (i.e. strong) signals, but POD's XLR outputs are capable of providing only MIC-type (i.e. weak) signals. Therefore, with the same setting of the Master knob, the headphones will always receive a stronger signal than the monitors connected to the XLRs. The solution is to connect instead the 1/4" jack outputs to the monitors and set the 1/4" Out switch (next to the pedal) to LINE. By doing so, the volume perceived through the headphones and the monitors will be much more similar to each other, and the signal/noise ratio of the monitors will improve too, and they will work more efficiently.
  4. If possible always connect the POD to USB 2.0 only ports (avoid USB 3.0 ie those with the blue internal tab). If the problem persists it could be due to a momentary malfunction of the Line6 servers that provide the firmware file in streaming to the monkey app which in turn installs it in the POD. Maybe at this Christmas/new year's eve time the Line6 guys are all on vacation and no one is checking if everything is working properly here. However as a workaround you can download the firmware file manually from this site (from the DOWNLOADS section) and then choose the "update from file" option in the Monkey app. If the USB connection works fine, the firmware flashing should proceed and finish successfully since when done in offline mode there is no need to be connected to the Line6 server . PS. If you want you can open a log generated by the monkey app to read what it did last time, if it had any problems and which ones. To do this, with the app window open, click on the monkey icon in the upper left corner and in the menu that appears click on "Diagnostics" .. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  5. From what I see in your pic monkey cannot connect with the Line6 server but it is succesfully connected via USB to your POD so if you have manually downloaded the firmware file (from the DOWNLOAD section of this website) as I suggested in my previous post you should be able to install it in the POD without problems (you dont't necessarily need to be logged in from within the app for this specific operation in offline mode). All you have to do is click and highlight where "flash memory" is written (see my previous pic, please notice that I'm not logged in over there), after which the "update from file" button will appear, press it, find your previously downloaded file, and wait for the procedure to finish. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  6. A few other times it has happened to some users that the monkey app was unable to complete the login to the server. It's only an occasional problem that is solved by Line6 sooner or later. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the monkey application, or installing an older version, perhaps it solves the issue. Or if you need only to reflash the firmware you can use the monkey (even without being logged in) and choose the offline mode for updating it. To do this, however, you must first manually download the firmware file corresponding to the model of your device from this website, and then install it by choosing "update from file" from the monkey application. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  7. If your POD USB port is not damaged you can try the following firmware flashing procedure in safe mode: disconnect everything from the device connect the power cable while pressing the nav down button (the LCD screen will say "update flash") connect the USB cable (the device will be recognized by the computer if the USB port is ok) run the Line 6 Monkey program (the device should be detected by the program) select "flash memory" and "re-install latest version" when done restart your POD if the above procedure worked ok to solve the boot loop issue, don't forget to do also a global reset and finally the pedal calibration Notice that if the USB port is broken the above procedure won't work, and the port needs to be replaced. At times also a faulty power supply or a bad VDI cable connecting the POD to a Variax could be culprits of the boot loop issue. Also corrupted presets/patches could cause problems. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  8. Make sure to connect the HD500 to USB 2.0 only ports, avoid USB 3.0 ports with the POD.. and make sure the driver is installed succesfully in your computer.. If the problem persists check if the POD USB port is broken.. (check also the USB cable) broken---> fine--> If the USB port is broken your only solution is to replace it, and maybe you need to replace also the USB controller chip _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  9. The POD unlike some other MIDI equipped audio interfaces does not pass any MIDI messages over the USB connection and therefore cannot be used to control plugins directly. To be able to control plugins from the POD at least a simple MIDI-USB interface (or an audio interface equipped with MIDI) must be connected between the POD and the computer. Once you have the MIDI interface it's just a matter of programming the necessary settings in the DAW and in the POD patch dedicated to MIDI control. On youtube you can easily find some tutorials that explain how to use the POD as a MIDI controller for plugins, but in any case you need a device that acts as a MIDI-USB interface. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  10. Follow the instructions given at the link below here, the only difference from when that post was written is that now the latest version of POD HD500X Edit software is 2.27 (no longer 2.26): POD HD500X/HD500/HD/HD Pro firmware v2.62 and POD HD/HD500/HD Pro Edit v2.26 update instructions _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  11. surely there won't be any other firmware in the future with improvements or fixes for the HD500/X.. the latest was released on 4/9/15.. development of the HD500/X ended years ago .. the only thing that maybe will be updated again at least while the unit is still in production is the asio-audio driver needed for communication between the device and the audio programs running on the latest computer's operating systems, the latest driver for windows has been released on 6/11/19 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  12. I'll try to explain myself better.. when you select preset A of bank 1, POD automatically sends a program change corresponding to 000 to the device connected via MIDI, so you have to make sure that in the connected device the preset you need is stored in the memory slot 000. if from the POD you select the preset B of bank 1, the POD sends a program change corresponding to 001 to the connected device, therefore make sure that in the connected device the correct preset is in the memory slot 001. if from POD you select preset A of bank 2, POD sends a program change corresponding to 004 to the connected device, if from POD you select preset B of bank 2, POD sends a program change corresponding to 005 to the connected device, and so on .. basically all you have to do is sort the presets of your connected device in order to get the right matches with the POD presets, possibly even copying the same preset (eg same delay) in several memory slots if and where necessary ..and yes, you don't need to program MIDI program changes into the presets, unless you want to stay fixed in the same POD preset but change the presets of the connected device at some points. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  13. Whenever and as soon as you change presets on the POD it automatically (fixed non-changeable behavior) sends out the corresponding MIDI program change on its same set MIDI channel number (and this behavior overrides any program changes that may have been programmed into the POD preset). Therefore, since the above behavior of the POD is unfortunately fixed, the solution is to store the presets on the connected external device in such a way that you get the desired correspondence between the presets of one and the other. Eg, if when selecting preset A (FS5) on the POD you want to automatically select a certain preset on the external device, the latter must be stored, copied or moved into the first memory slot available of the external device. PS. Program changes programmed within a preset are useful when remaining in the same already selected preset on the POD, you want to change presets on a connected external device by using the POD footswitches. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. AFAIK Reverb.com ships also to Canada.. here is the item: Line 6 50-02-0234 Top and Bottom Switch PCB Assembly for HD500X _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  15. To effectively apply a contact cleaner (better isopropyl alcohol) you need to open the device to have access to the underlying microswitches that have become dirty or worn. Otherwise for $ 25 you can buy brand new Top and Bottom Switch PCB Assembly and replace the old one, no soldering needed, just plug and play. 17. Yes it is a PITA!.. I understand your annoyance .. so it seems that the problem depends on which browser is used .. I have been using firefox for many years and I have never had the problem downloading from Line6.. well at least you have found the solution to your problem _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  18. If the external preamp is top quality (which usually translates to pricey) it will improve the vocals, but not as much as the right mic for the right voice would do. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  19. You need just a normal USB cable like the one of your printer. The Variax cable is useful only if you have a Variax guitar. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. Il you read it the solution is clearly written in the 2nd pic you posted in your previous reply. You have to disable the smart screen feature in your browser to be able to download from the Line6 servers. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  21. Just in case you need the perhaps lost songs/style setlist here it is: Songs - Style.5xs Drag and drop it over your Editor and send it to the device. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  22. You shouldn't use the link posted by you above, it doesn't work, you should instead go to the DOWNLOAD section of this website, then by using the dedicated menus select: the POD HD500 as hardware, the HD500 Edit as software, and Windows 10 as OS, and then use the given link to download the installer you need. You could also install and use the Monkey app to automatically recognize and install all the softwares useful for your device. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  23. As a workaround, for roughly the same price of a new VDI-USB Variax interface you might much more easily find a used POD XT Live that theoretically would work the same way as an interface between your Variax and your computer. But to be honest I don't know if the latest XTL drivers would still work with the latest operating systems. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  25. Unfortunately not. You can change output setting only directly on the device through the rotary encoder n.1 when you are at page 4 of the system settings. The encoder need to be cleaned or replaced. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
