amp or line when connecting to the effects return of the external guitar amp
hurghanico replied to jaboldu's topic in POD HD
The power amp RETURN input of guitar amps expects LINE level signals, set the POD output accordingly _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
one of the things that could most easily be broken is the POD usb port and maybe even the internal usb controller chip. but IMO if the computer at least emits some sound (a beep or something) when you connect the POD to it it means that the POD usb port is probably still working well, but in your case the driver is not installed properly/fully.. if the usb port is really broken it is easy to see since often in these cases the internal plastic rectangle in the middle of the port is missing .. last tip: disconnect everything from the POD when trying to reset/reflash it except the power cord and usb cable .. if you can't solve in any way your issue open a support ticket to speak directly with the Line6 official support guys Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

If as you said windows sees something when you connect the POD to the USB it's a good sign (there is hope).. perhaps the driver has not been installed or has not installed completely.. try to uninstall it and install it again.. or try temporarily with another computer, perhaps with an old operating system such as xp or seven which never give recognition problems with the POD _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Make sure you connect the POD to a USB 2.0 only port, avoid connecting it to USB 3.0 (the ones with the blue inner tab).. There is a post in my forum website where a guy had a similar issue with his POD not being recognized by Win 10 OS, at the end he solved the issue by plugging the POD to a USB 2.0 only port. As can be deduced from the table above, to toggle (ie to change the current on/off status of) an effect assigned to a given footswitch the important thing is to send the right CC command number, and the assigned value can be any number between 0 and 127, it doesn't matter which. Each time the device will receive the same CC command it will toggle the corresponding FS assignement on/off. As another example , if we look again in the same table at the MIDI commands needed to control the Looper we see that to activate the RECORD function we must send the CC # 60 command with any value between 64 and 127, while to activate the OVERDUB function we must still send the command CC # 60 but this time with any value between 0 and 63. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Variax not working! Help please
hurghanico replied to keithlandry09's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Correct!.. no battery needed when using the VDI connection probably.. but your issue could be due also to the Variax cable.. maybe it is faulty or you didn't insert it correctly all the way.. just for checking purposes (normally you should use a properly made Variax cable), if you have an ethernet cable around (ie exactly the same you would use to connect a computer directly to a router) and you know that is working fine, use it to connect the Variax to the POD.. it should work, if it doesn't it means that the VDI port of the POD (or of the Variax) is damaged.. sometimes it may happen that you accidentally insert a jack into the wrong hole like the VDI port and damage the delicate pins that are inside it _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
if you usually connect your device to a power strip, try a new one and see what happens.. power strips worn out over time and become unreliable

The POD pitch effects are not declared as polyphonic (as mentioned in a previous post) but they are not strictly monophonic either. Strictly monophonic effects (there are some in the POD), even if desired, cannot produce more than one note at a time, and if the input signal is a chord they get confused as to which of the notes of the chord to process, with the result of having sudden and unexpected note changes and other oddities. As far as POD is concerned, if the input signal is a chord the pitch effects still produce a chord at the desired pitch, certainly the result is not as excellent as that one would be obtained with external dedicated pitch effects declared as polyphonic, but the result is acceptable in many cases. TIP: If you simply need to transpose a song to a different key you should use the pitch shifter (not the harmonizer) and put it at the beginning of the chain. The harmonizer is useful instead to create a second melodic voice parallel to the original one (eg to play part of the solo in Hotel California) but with all the notes taken from the same key/scale you are playing that song. The difference between the pitch shifter and the harmonizer is that the former shifts all the input notes by the same number of half steps, thus changing the key of a song if you use the FX in a fixed way (ie not as whammy bar FX tied to the pedal), while the latter creates the notes of the second parallel voice so that they remain in the same key/scale (that you must specify in the FX settings) you are playing the song. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Is there a way to get the Line 6 Boost+EQ pedal on this?
hurghanico replied to BaylorPRSer's topic in POD HD
The stock effect Studio EQ works very well both as a clean booster and as an EQ. In case you want to add also a distortion FX in the chain remember that all the included distortion FXs are already equipped with an additional EQ section which is post distortion (position where the effect of the EQ on distortion is much more noticeable than if it had been in pre-distortion position where it would have been different and more subtle). So in case you prefer the different and more subtle effect of pre distortion EQ (or if you want to combine it with the already in place post EQ) add an EQ FX before the distortion FX. PS. In regard to the Big Bottom amp model don't expect that it sounds 100% identical to the X3 version, and for a simple reason, the HD cabs/speakers (which represent about 50% if not more of the final sound) sound different (better or worse is a matter of personal taste) than the ones in the X3.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -

No battery into the POD.. if the problem is that when you turn the POD back on you can't find anymore the presets you imported or created by using the editor, this is probably due to the fact that before closing the editor you didn't use the SEND command to send the new presets permanently into the POD. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

The virtual tuning of the Variax and the transposing function that can be obtained with the POD pitch shifter effect both work on the same basic principle, except that the signal of each Variax string is transposed and processed separately while the POD pitch shifter transposes the signal mix of all the strings together, which is why you get better results with the virtual tuning of the Variax (as already suggested by spaceatl). If you have already learned a song in standard tuning and want to play it with a baritone tuning (which is nothing more than the standard tuning 5 half steps down), nothing changes from the point of view of the guitar playing if the baritone tuning is obtained through virtual tuning of the Variax or with the POD pitch shifter. The important thing is in both cases that the amplified signal is loud enough to cover the acoustic sound coming from the guitar. If you decide to use the POD's pitch shifter IMO it is best to put it at the beginning of the chain so that it acts on the still unprocessed clean signal (pure, without the harmonics added later by distortion) of the guitar. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) while using POD HD500X

Similarly to what you could do with the built-in looper there are mainly 2 different solutions: 1) looper at the beginning of the chain (between the guitar and the POD) - in this way the looper records the clean signal of the guitar and therefore all the loops change sound the same way every time the patch is changed. 2) looper at the end of the chain (just after the POD) - in this way the looper records the signal processed by the current patch, so each single loop + the live sound can have a different sound depending on the patch used for each of them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

How do I adjust headphones output on POD HD500X?
hurghanico replied to BaylorPRSer's topic in POD HD
Helix series surely offers more routing options than the POD, at least the top of the line devices from LT up should do (don't know about the smaller HX units). Using just 1 monitor for the processed signal if the wet and dry signals are stereo separated is a good idea. I could be wrong but I guess you want to record the dry track to process it later with a plugin, and that the POD wet signal is just for recording the dry signal track with the right feel/dynamics. For such a case there would actually be a third routing option if you had an audio interface provided with s/pdif and the right cable to connect it to the s/pdif of the POD. In the POD there is the option to send the dry signal (instead of the processed one) via the s/pdif connection. Obviously in this case the audio interface selected in the DAW would not be the POD but instead the other one (if any)... ..and you wouldn't need to use wet/dry double signal patches anymore. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
How do I adjust headphones output on POD HD500X?
hurghanico replied to BaylorPRSer's topic in POD HD
If you use direct hardware monitoring of the POD (which is latency free) everything that passes in the patch will be monitored, there is no possibility to monitor live only 1 of 2 passing signals (wet and dry in your case). If, on the other hand, you use DAW monitoring (which is with some latency) you can select which recording track should be monitored live and which not via the dedicated commands of your DAW. As for the master volume physical knob, when POD is also used as an audio interface it does not affect the level of the signal passing through the USB at all. In this case it is nothing more than the volume of the monitoring. The levels of the signals arriving at the DAW via USB depend only on the settings in the patch. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
podhd500x POD HD 500X distorted sound in mixer
hurghanico replied to Guitar_Trovis's topic in POD HD
The POD XLR outputs provide (only) MIC level signals, so they should be connected to mixer channels set to accept MIC (low) level signals, so that they can be amplified appropriately. Mixer channels set up to accept LINE (high) level signals are not suitable for amplifying MIC (low) level signals because in this case exaggerated gain level would be required which would at least noticeably increase the mixer channel preamp floor noise. So, when your only option is to connect the POD to mixer channels set for LINE level signals, you shouldn't use the POD XLR outputs for the connection but the jack outputs instead, and make sure the 1/4 "OUT switch next to the pedal is set to LINE. Doing so the POD will provide LINE level signals. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -

Question: HD500X - Make Studio One 3 switch effetcs via MIDI.
hurghanico replied to Kosmonopol_JJ's topic in POD HD
the DAW track that contains the MIDI commands for the POD should be set to the same MIDI channel number set in the POD. the DAW track that contains the MIDI commands for Helix LT should be set to the same MIDI channel number set in Helix LT (which should be different from the one chosen for POD). the DAW track containing the MIDI commands for Korg Kronos should be set to the same MIDI channel number set in Korg Kronos (which should be different from the channel numbers chosen for POD and Helix LT). each device receives its own commands on its own channel number _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
There is no difference in how you can do output routing on the 500x vs the 500. The only functional difference between the 500 and the 500X is that the latter has 20% more DSP resources available, so with the 500X it is easier to be able to build complex patches without exceeding the maximum limit of available resources. Ok, if you need the FX LOOP to insert external effects you cannot use the previously suggested solution. As an alternative solution you can take advantage instead of the separation of the 2 channels of the stereo output of the POD, and then pan both the L and R channels of some patches completely to the left, and the L and R channels of the other patches completely to the right, in this way the signal of some patches will come out only from L and that of the other patches only from R.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

I have both devices and I assure you that their signal routing capabilities are identical. And you cannot route the signal of some patches only to the XLR or Jack output, what goes to the XLR goes also to the Jack output, always. What you can do with the 500 or the 500X is to insert the FX LOOP block at the end of the chain of part of the patches to divert their signal towards the SEND output instead of the standard outputs. So at the end the signal of some patches will come out from SEND output and that of the others from the standard outputs (XLR or jack). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

There are 2 monitoring solutions at your disposal and you should enable/use only one of them at a time, which one depending on your needs. If you enable the DAW track monitoring (which has latency) you should disable the POD direct hardware monitoring by opening its asio driver control panel and turning down to zero the hardware monitoring level. (Tip: use this monitoring solution only if you need to run live a IR loader plugin or other effects plugins in your DAW) If you choose instead to use the POD direct hardware monitoring (zero latency) open the POD asio driver control panel and turn up the hardware monitoring, and disable the DAW track monitoring, otherwise you get 2 same monitoring signals at the same time and out of phase to each other. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

As already suggested your monitor expects a Line level signal but the POD XLR can give only a Mic level signal. If your monitor has a LINE/MIC switch it should be set to MIC if you connect the POD XLR, otherwise the only solution is to connect a standard jack and set the 1/4" OUT switch near the pedal to LINE. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Probably the Volume pot needs to be cleaned or replaced. Pull off the corresponding plastic knob and with a cotton swab apply a little isopropyl alcohol on the metal shaft, put the plastic knob back in place and turn the pot several times. If this solution does not solve the problem the pot must be replaced. Before trying the cleaning porcedure as a temporary workaround you could park the Volume knob at the minimum position before selecting your patches. Doing so the jittery pot phenomenon should stop happening until the pot remains parked at zero. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
