Any acoustic amps in any update? Or acoustic options?
PeterHamm replied to watch4king's topic in Helix
The ones I almost always use are the ones created by 3 Sigma Audio. Costs 10 bucks per set. MORE than worth it and FAR better than any free ones I or others have made. -
I had this experience with ONE of the updates iirc... I think maybe it might have been a beta build though.

I don't ever use that stuff live, but it's cool in a recording if you aren't making an army of guitar sounds. But you are right about "overload". That's why guys who use a lot of stereo in a band with other guitarists find that they are lost in the mix. It's cause their sound is so huge the sound guy pulls it way back in the monitors.

Here's more to try. The Famous old Taylor ones. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2qdh9jtcl6s5cv/AACRlEt-UVeLAhuvV4YwMY7Wa?dl=0 Wes Hunter's collection. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2qdh9jtcl6s5cv/AACRlEt-UVeLAhuvV4YwMY7Wa?dl=0 The ones I made from DTAR Mama Bear (these need to be at -6db, and although they sound less "real" imho, they absolutely cut through a mix). https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5YMP7cdVF-LTWE5TkFrb0ZTUGc ALL of those are free. I am hoping to make some based on the old Yamaha AG Stomp I still have and will try and do that soon. -

We have the vintage tube mic pre or whatever it's called. All ya need. Get a free IR or buy the ones from 3 Sigma. Use some para EQ. A teeny bit of studio comp. Add your verbs and delays if you must. But, I stress that if you want a natural sound, put the IR first (it represents the miked guitar, so it should be first in the chain), then the mic pre, then the EQ and the comp last. I bet you it'll sound better than any acoustic preamp you've ever used. -
YOU DO, however, have to use the very latest editor! which at this point is 2.11. It is a separate download from the firmware update.

Do it like this. I write about acoustic and two voice here. https://pietrosquared.wordpress.com/helix-2-voice-guitar/ -
Never tried it, but I think that it would still sound "off". That said, it's worth trying!

LOVE the 145 and the Fender model, too. You have to run OFF your speaker sim or IR for this, though. Had a real 145. This is a good sim.

There are a lot of reasons that the rack is great, especially in the studio, but also on stage. When I use Helix on-stage the only thing that is at my feet is control and the EXP's and it's simple and clean. That said, I think that if you are playing live, and even if you are in the studio, most people are better off with the Floor. And if you get the rack, and don't get control, you'll probably regret it.

Well, there's been a handful of guys on this forum (I've seen this on others as well) who came in guns-blazing full-on toll-mode who settled down and became just great. It can happen.

You don't need the Helix plug-in to do this (if it's possible) because you can load IRs into a lot of DAWs. I know you can with Logic. But to load an IR for a big room reverb? That will require a BUTTLOAD of CPU power... if it's even possible. They are better at transients and such.
-
Cool, but... can't use those Stereo IRs in Helix. We can in our DAW or stuff like that, but Helix is mono only.
-
I would especially like this for the Rack, so I can use one of the rear inputs for electric guitar.
-
And who knows if that would work... Nothing solves the issue at hand if you want the absolute best electric guitar signal into Helix. That can only be accomplished with the Guitar In Jack. That's in my experience at least.

+1000 on getting an SSD as a boot drive. Change my freakin' life.

The Dragster has been called snake oil by some, but I have a feeling in this particular instance it might really do something noticeable. Somebody try it and tell us!

This is what I discovered when I tried to plug my electric guitar into the BACK of Helix. Only one of the sounds will be "without compromise". That said, if one of the guitars is an acoustic or an active bass, you're golden! Just use that aux input. And no, there isn't a workaround at this time.

Use the built-in dual cabs. You'll be pleased. Besides, there is no facility for using stereo IRs in Helix, only dual mono ones.
-
I never ever ever ever use an amp+cab block. Too many things (Spring reverb, delay, trem) sound best through "the loop". That's me. I have maybe ONE time used an amp+cab block in a patch, and I don't use that patch... And no, you don't want amp + cab then add a cab, because you'll be essentially running an IR into an IR. I'd run an amp (only) then split to two cabs, or two amps into two different cabs, and for fun, put just a few ms delay at 100% mix and 0% feedback on one of those so it sounds like there's some space. Then play with panning.
