  1. So you don't have to worry about exactly where your knob is, just use a DI or mic level output and turn the output knob all the way up to avoid any added line noise.
  2. In his defense, he described it well, I've heard it, and I think that the ways you "dial it out" are counter-intuitive, and I would love to have been able to try and do so. We've had a few trolls around here lately, for the most part this guy isn't one, but some of the Helix fan bois HAVE been troll-ish to him, imho.
  3. People get defensive about stuff, because they dump a grand and a half on something and have to feel like unless it's the best thing for everyone and anyone who disagrees must be mad. It's nuts. It didn't work for him. So what. Not convinced that his issues weren't fixable, but he doesn't want to continue with it. Leave it alone. So what. There are other fish to fry without insulting other people.

Direct monitor for the win. Just turn off the "I" button on the channel as you record. No reason to mess around with other possible solutions. It works great.
  5. There are other pros using Helix on tour, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't work for the OP. So what. Big deal. Move on to something that does. I still maintain that I could take his patch and adjust it to get rid of the artifact he's hearing, but he's moving on, so there's no point.
  6. Reasons I use a DI instead of XLR outs. 1. It sounds the same. 2. It's easy to lift the ground if need be, change the impedance of the output or troubleshoot hum (sometimes just by rotating the DI). 3. There is never a phantom power issue. 4. I NEVER have line/mic/level/impedance mismatches if I use a DI. 5. If someone bumps the cable, it just moves the DI a couple inches, it doesn't pull the cable out and potentially damage the output. 6. The sound guy generally understands an instrument into a DI better than an XLR out connection that may or may not be a level he's used to seeing. It's really a great idea.
  7. I know what you're hearing, and I've owned amps that had it, too... That said, on Helix, I find that messing with the bias control and sometimes the SAG and for GOD SAKE turn that Hum down all the way please... gets me where I want to be. Just turning bias all the way one way or the other DOESN'T get you there. I find that the sweet spot varies, and one of the "problems" that is solved when you find it is exactly this thing you're talking about. I never had much of a problem with those sounds on HD 500, less so on Helix where I pretty much always get the sound in my head out into the speakers... but this was THE biggest thing I had issue with with X3 when I had it for a while, which is why I never went totally amp-less when I had that.
  8. @brue58ski, this is AMAZING. Just for giggles, I made my own copy. All I did was change the Helix input to GTR in (I know some would want "multi" but that is useless to me, so I did GTR in), but as I went through there were a handful of patches with (easily fixable) errors, maybe in translation btw, that I fixed. Also, I made it so that the default snapshot on each is the clean one. And in a few cases there were FX on in some snapshots (also could have been translation error). If anybody wants that version here it is. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5YMP7cdVF-Ld3d6R2s5SDB5SzA brue58ski, if you do NOT want me to share that, let me know, but I thought in the spirit of the good will of your post, I'd just offer it. imho, the best thing you can do to learn how Helix will work with your guitar is to go through these until you sound the amp that sounds closest. THEN change the cab, add a dual cab, or your favorite IR. And change the FX out for what works best for you. This new set list will be my starting place to find the tone for a song when I'm recording for sure. SO useful.
  9. That's the 3rd time or so I've heard that lately. I need to dial that up again later today. I liked the AC30 models in most Line 6 products, but I liked other stuff so much more in HD 500 that I haven't used one in a while. Since I love the Matchless so much, maybe I'd like this, too.

2 x 10 is my favorite guitar cab config, but i find the 4 x 10 in there works fine. Put it on a Deluxe Reverb or a Twin and you get real close to Vibro goodness
  11. Well, he is confirmed to be engaging in troll-like behavior. Personally, I reported him and asked the mods to ban him. I appreciate a lightly-moderated forum, but on TGP, for instance, he would be gone by now for sure. The name-calling mostly. Hint: When you see that your score in a forum is in the negatives by exactly the number of posts you have made in that forum... well... in layman's terms... if everybody thinks you are acting like a jerk, it might not be their problem...
  12. I like dogs. GSD won Westminster so I keep telling mine she is BEST in SHOW!
  13. ONE MORE reason why I use a 1/4" to DI box!
  14. Sometime in Feb. No one who knows can say exactly when (if anybody DOES know yet). We do know that they showed a functioning beta (or maybe that was an "alpha") at NAMM, so we know they are working on it.
  15. The built-in cabs ARE IRs, just with some extra control. imho, dial up a dual cab built-in cab and it sounds (again, to me) better than any of the after-market IRs I've tried. If you want the "feel", you need the same volume as the amp you'd be comparing to, imho.
  16. I have had no problems, but almost always use a DI anyway. The few times I've used the XLR it has seemed totally solid to me, but I'm on the Rack. Someone else...?
  17. If it HAS to be a switch, this guy could make it affordably for you I bet. this1smyne.com
  18. I would LOVE to see a patch you are having problems with, as I am monitoring similarly here, and would love to dial it up on my Helix (I have loads of time today.) Would you be willing to send it? PM me on here and I'll give you an email address to send a patch to if you'd like.
