I THINK (helpful, right?) I read somewhere that's a bug when moving presets between Helix and Native. You might try searching the Bug Report thread.

No. I think there' a feature request over on Ideascale. VOTE!

If you put the REAL pedal in an FX Loop it defeats the Auto Impedance function, so you'll need to set whatever FS/SS you use to activate the FX Loop to change the impedance. Also, I once did some research on the impedance of the 808/TS9 type pedals and it's all over the place. If using it in an FX Loop you may need to try different impedance settings.

This is a 4cm preset and requires a MIDI connection to the Catalyst. It assumes that you have the LFS2 or equivalent FS. Set the Cat to MIDI Channel 3, FX Loop ON, FS2 set to "Effects Bypass", MODE Switch set to FX Loop (left position). On Helix, set Preset Mode to 8 Snapshots. Set the Footswitches to 10. If you have an LT you'll lose the A/B Channel switching. Use the LFS2 in that case. The FX Loop has SEND on FX Loop 1 and RETURN on FX Loop 2. I find that, when using 4cm, the FX Loop is quieter that way. The 6 Snapshots call Channel A of Banks 1-6. On mine I have a different amp on each Bank and the Snapshots are named accordingly. I didn't do it on this one, but you can easily include a Helix Amp or two and use Snapshots 7 and 8 to disable the FX Loops and activate the Helix amps. FWIW - while SOP is to disable cabs/IRs when going thru an external power amp and guitar speaker, the Catalyst is a SS amp with a wide range speaker so, to me, when using the Helix amps, cabs/IRs sound good. YMMV. In Stomp Mode the A and B switches switch the Channels of whichever Bank is loaded in that Snapshot. I find that doing this by MIDI is quieter than using the LFS2 FS for this function, but the FS will still work, so you can always repurpose those switches if you so desire. The Reverb FS swaps the Helix Reverb and the Catalyst Reverb. The Delay FS Bypasses the Helix Delay. You can use the LFS2 FS2 to activate the Catalyst Delay for dual delays or use it for some other Catalyst effect. The BOOST FS activates the Cat's BOOST. The LEAD FS adds a clean 4db boost at the Output Block. Instant Commands activate the Cat's FX Loop in case you've deactivated it to use the Cat without the Helix. I Think that's all. Questions? Knocking the Helix reverbs is a popular sport on the forums, often done by folks who are used to the "instant gratification" of the many factory presets available in HW devices such as Strymon and Eventide. There's a discussion going on right now in the TGP D&M forum about this very subject. The Helix reverbs take a bit to figure out all of the parameters, but many folks get amazing results. Here's a link to a book with lots of tips and tricks. It's not free but not expensive either, and written by a leading industry authority. Not happening on my HXS, maybe an XL thing? While you're waiting for an XL person to reply, SOP for wonky behavior - back up your presets and do a Factory Reset: If that doesn't work and nobody else has a solution, Support Ticket time!

Attached is a demo preset. I've no idea what specific FX you're using so I just used the same type. I created this on an HX Stomp, but it should load on the HXFX. The first FX Loop (FX Loop 1) is your 4cm. The second FX Loop (FX Loop 2) is your Walrus. You can put that anywhere in the chain, but it will NOT be stereo. The Simple Delay is MONO because you had the HX Delay before the Walrus. If you want it stereo move it after the Walrus FX Loop and make it stereo. The two verbs are stereo. Snapshot 2 Bypasses the Walrus FX Loop (FX Loop 2). Leave the Walrus ON at all times and use SS2 to Bypass it. If the Walrus is True Bypass then you COULD use MIDI to Bypass it IF it passes unprocessed signal when Bypassed that way. RTM. So, both FX Loops set to INSTRUMENT. 1/4" TS from FX Loop 1 SEND to Amp Input, 1/4" TS from Amp FX Send to FX Loop 1 RETURN. 1/4" TS from FX Loop 2 SEND to Walrus Mono In, 1/4" TS from Walrus Mono Out to FX Loop 2 RETURN. I don't know what the Walrus uses MIDI for, I assume it has Presets? Whatever Preset you want it to use, send MIDI by whatever means you choose, just make sure that whatever Snapshot you use to Bypass it's FX Loop (FX Loop R) doesn't send it a Preset because you won't hear it! corena.hlx

5. Footswitch The supplied footswitch is connected here. The footswitch enables you to switch between the Clean and Overdrive channels. The Overdrive Select Switch (4) on the amplifier must be depressed to allow the footswitch to work --------------------------------------------------------- You're doing it right and yes, you need to have an "Instant Command" set to "Ext Amp" on each preset to tell the HT what channel to be on for that preset. You can use a FS or a Snapshot to change it while you're in the preset. I can't provide more detail than that as I don't have the HXFX, but that's how it works on Helix Floor.

Best practice for grabbing IRs from other modellers?
rd2rk replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
The cabs in GR are not the same as IRs, They are similar to the Helix cabs. You can't extract them from GR to use in Helix. Even if you could, they would not sound the same with Helix amps. If you use the Helix Dual Cab Block you can do pretty much the same thing in Helix as Control Room does, though limited to two cabs/mics.. You have lots of cabs and mics to choose from. You can't control mic placement on the cones as you can in Control Room Pro, but you can control distance, high/low cuts, mix level and to some extent room ambience with the "early reflections" parameter. I recommend York IRs if you really can't stand the Helix cabs, but before you start spending money on IRs, wait for v3.2. There MIGHT be something new coming with cabs. In the meantime, keep in mind that cabs/IRs are no more than fancy EQs. Try a Parametric EQ to fine tune the Cab. -
.5w is .5 watts on either. I'm using a Cat100 on the .5w setting and getting very decent sound at apartment level (60-70db - conversation levels). the 50w setting is pretty loud, but I'm not playing with a band. I'm pretty sure the 60w version will be sufficient for your needs. However, if you can swing it, get the 100w version. Reports are it's plenty loud enough for outdoor concerts even at 50w, and it has MIDI. You might not need MIDI now, but with my Helix Floor it opens up LOTS of possibilities. At the very least, if you do get the Cat60, get the LFS2 footswitch.

FX Loop 1 is used for 4cm? FX after the FX Loop 1 Block work? FX Loop 2 Block Activated (not bypassed) And set to INSTRUMENT in Global Settings? Pedal Active (Not Bypassed)? Mix Knob on pedal turned up to taste? If all of that is, and the pedal works outside of the FX Loop (between guitar and whatever the guitar plugs in to), then test your cables that you're using for the FX Loop. If all of that is good, then IDK.

Very cool, but I'm waiting on the Amazon Basics Home Fusion Generator. It should be out around the time I can afford a house to put it in...

Thanks for the link. It's on my Amazon wishlist. More for my apocalypse kit than for Helix though...

Interesting. Product link?

As I said in my previous post, there should be a hex key in the box. I don't know what size it is. The adjuster is on the right side of the pedal.

I wouldn't use two of the same block, IMO/IME it's a waste of DSP. If you're worried about losing your settings, export the preset to a backup folder. Amps use a lot of DSP. Each Path - 1A and 2A - is supported by it's own processor. The only time I use two (or even three) amps is when I'm trying to get both (or all three) channels of an amp into a single preset. I'll usually (depending on the other FX involved) put CH1 and CH2 in parallel paths with an A/B Split on PathA and the third channel with cab/IR on PathB with the time based FX (delay/reverb). The reason for putting the two amps in parallel is that leaving them ON and using the A/B Split to route the signal makes switching quieter. For some reason the noise I'm referring to doesn't happen when the third amp is on PathB. I use a regular FS to route CH1/CH2 and a Snapshot to bypass those and activate CH3. There's probably other ways, but that works for me. At any rate, the point is to split the DSP load between the two processors/paths, making more amps/FX available within the paths' DSP limitations. If you bought your Helix new then there should be a Hex Key in the box to adjust the bolt on the right side of the exp pedal.

In case of unexplainable wonkiness, perform a factory reset: Don't forget to first back up any custom preset you've created.

From the manual: "22. MODE SWITCH – Controls the state of the FX Loop RETURN; When switched to the left, the FX Loop is engaged (as described above). When switched to the right, Power Amp In is engaged, sending the return signal directly to the power amp. This feature is great for use with external effects processors or pedals" Many amps have an FX Loop Level switch. From my Blackstar HT5 manual: "8. Effects Loop Level The Effect Loop Level switch sets the effects loop to either +4dBV/-10dBV, which enables you to use it with either professional equipment (+4dBV setting), or with guitar level effects such as effects pedals (-10dBV setting)." Since most FX in use these days are stompbox type, designed to be used between the guitar and the amp input (guitar level), when the Cat's FX Loop Switch is to the left that accommodates these pedals, whereas to the right accommodates the typically Line Level signal expected from a modeler. I use my Cat with my Helix Floor. When I'm using it in 4cm my 1/4" Main Output is set to LINE and my Helix FX Loop SEND is set to INSTRUMENT. The Helix FX Loop RETURN is set to LINE. I leave the Cat's MODE switch set to the left (FX Loop engaged) to accommodate presets with and without the FX Loop. The level remains the same because the FX Loop SEND is set to INSTRUMENT for 4cm, but the Main Output is always set to LINE. I have not had any problems with headroom, so I assume that the Cat's poweramp is designed for this and the MODE switch is a convenience to accommodate external modelers/rack FX that MAY cause a problem.

Unlike the Block Bypass, you have to specifically assign the parameters you want to control to Snapshots. Then when you change those parameters in any Snapshot and SAVE before leaving the Snapshot (If Global Settings>Preferences> Snapshot Edits = Discard) those settings will apply in THAT Snapshot, leaving the others as is. See the SNAPSHOTS section of the manual for whatever version of Helix you have.

IDK about that, although there are days when I think I'd be better off befriending an air conditioner than spending one more minute on MI forums... We REALLY need emoticons on this forum.

You're missing the point by demonstrating your complete lack of a sense of humor. RTFM! If you have an LT you have an Ext Amp Jack. Look at the picture on page 9 (rev C), the picture of the back panel. It's on the far left labeled "EXP PEDAL 2" in big letters and below that in smaller letters "EXT AMP". There has never been a version of the LT which lacked the EXT AMP jack. Here's a link to the official release video from April 2017. FF to 5:07 for a picture and statement of function. You know the Homer Simpson meme - slaps himself in the head and says "DOH!"? You need to learn to laugh at yourself when you totally screw up. But DON'T be a Homer - LEARN from your mistakes. RTFM!

At this point, your TSR (True Skill Rating) seems pretty low. Reading the manual could help with that. Using a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cable from the port that's labelled for that purpose and setting that port to actually be USED for that purpose (Global Settings>Preferences) is the way to go. You'll likely have to RTM (Command Center) to find out what to do next. No guarantees though. No-brand and CIA issued amps can be very unpredictable. With the latter, un-redacted versions of the manual are hard to come by. There's no telling what would happen if the Magic Smoke escaped from one of those! Good Luck!
