Thanks for taking the time to do that. I knew I'd seen it in the past but was too busy (lazy) to dig it all up. I'm saving a link to this thread for the next time it comes up (next week?). ;-)
-
You say that you've read the previous threads, but haven't tried the most common cure for wonky computers? DO IT!!! If that doesn't fix it and you believe that you've tried everything else, you may have gotten a defective unit. It happens. Open a support ticket. Better yet (if you're in the US) CALL support. The only other thing I can add is that I've had mine for 6 years, no expression pedal problems. And when it occasionally starts acting weird and a reboot doesn't fix it, a factory reset always does the trick.
-
FWIW - when referring to a YT (or any other) video or web article you should provide a link. If you updated to v3.5 and finished the update process with a factory reset (per the instructions) then you have all of the factory presets available for v3.5. You posted a screenshot which appears to be a shot of a Helix Setlist over an HXS setlist. The only way to know if a Helix preset is compatible with HXS is to try to import it. A link to the YT video MIGHT help determine (if the creator included screenshots of the signal chain) if the specific presets are compatible. Time references would also be helpful so we don't have to watch the entire video.

No need to roll back from 3.5, just the driver.

If I understand what you're trying to do, I think you'd need a full-fat Helix (Floor, LT, Rack), as you'd need to duplicate the Post FX Loop FX in a second path: Path 1 - Input Guitar>Mod/Dist>Send 2>FX Loop 1>Amp 1 FX>1/4" Out panned full LEFT Path 2 - Input Return 2 (patch cable from Send 2 to Return 2)>Amp 2 FX (same as Amp 1)>1/4" Out panned full RIGHT Left 1/4" Out to Amp 1; Right 1/4" Out to Amp 2 IOW, can't do it on HXS/HXFX. Maybe someone else will come up with a solution for you, but that's all I could come up with.

And then there's this, posted by DI today over on TGP: "The reality is that 3.50 added thousands of IRs, shot with those cabs and those mics at those distances, positions, and angles. If there was some special sauce added, we’d mention it, even without a peek under the hood. In this case there really isn’t any—just brute-force IR capture. Older Hybrid cabs, however, while also “IR-based,” are very different." What's a poor guitar player to think?

Upvoted!

If you did a backup before doing the update you can restore just the Global Settings.
-
As it currently stands, the Powercab stores single IRs and the magic in the 3.5 IRs is how they meld as you drag the mic around so no. I'm hoping that the reason we haven't seen an update to the Powercab is that they were waiting for this new tech to be proven before incorporating it in an update along with L6 Link fixes and a new PC Edit for the cab/mic UI. Hoping. I've tried both FLAT and RAW as well as FRFR. Try them yourself and use what sounds best to YOU.

Something I read long ago and no, I don't remember the source. It was discussed long ago Interesting. I don't know if this was what I read and I inferred that they started with an IR or what. If they are pure algos then they did a pretty good job. I never thought they were all that bad and the variance between commercial IRs of the same cabs and speakers inclined me to believe that they were "hybrids" of an IR and an algo. I've also been known to drink American beer, so what do I know?
-
Reported and verified. They're working on it.
-
The original Helix cabs were "hybrid" IRs. The core cab was an IR and the mics were EQ. The new 3.5 cabs are pure IR. Many IRs shot and moving the mic segues to a different IR (as I understand it). Update to 3.5 and dive into the IR world for FREE! And without having to buy, download and audition thousands of separate IRs - just drag the mic around and try new mics and positions with a workflow that up until now has only been available in software. And it sounds really good. I have many thousands of commercial IRs and while I'll probably continue to use some of them, for the most part the new cabs will be getting used for most purposes.

@cumminsnPer L6 @jamesdom over on TGP, uninstall the ASIO driver v1.97. Assuming that v1.96 is still installed, when you reconnect Helix (have to disconnect to uninstall) v1.96 will load and Cakewalk will run as expected. I just tried it, works great! Bug reported, they're working on it.
-
Works for me, but somebody else reported that over on TGP. Unless that was you... ?
-
Is there some way we can get to that solution? Especially a list of the Reg Edits. I'd like to try it.

WARNING: SARCASM ALERT! DI keeps saying that the Helix replacement, while inevitable, is not imminent because the Helix still has plenty of room for improvement designed in. But what does he know? He's probably just lying so as not to affect sales of the current Helix. The absolutely minimal and mostly useless and cosmetic improvements in the joke of a 3.50 "update" (Sunn indeed!) should be proof enough for anybody with half a brain. If you're smart you'll sell that crappy sounding POS now, because when the Geetar-Pedal-Plus hits the market in 2023 Reverb and Craigslist will be positively FLOODED with Helix users trying to dump their garbage Helixes for $tree-fiddy at best to get the NEW IMPROVED REALER THAN REAL Geetar-Pedal-Plus for ONLY $2500 (special limited time early adopter pre-release price) which likely won't actually be available in the numbers required until 2025 due to supply chain issues BUT we all KNOW it will ABSOLUTELY be worth the wait! ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) etc.

Why wrap Christmas presents? Because keeping the children guessing is part of the fun!

Hopefully, support will be able to figure this out. However, it may be a problem with Cakewalk, in which case you're probably SOL. I say this because I tested the 3.5 ASIO driver with: Ableton Live Lite 11 Cubase Elements 12 Mixcraft 9 Protools Intro Reaper They all work just fine with the 3.5 ASIO driver. Only Cakewalk is a fail. I never use Cakewalk anymore, too many problems, but I go way back with it - before Bandlab, before Gibson - when it was called Sonar by Cakewalk. It was my first DAW and while I have a sort of emotional attachment to it, Reaper is just SO much better on every level except eye candy. Do let us know what support comes up with!

HX Stomp & Orange Micro Dark - Will I explode everything?
rd2rk replied to GetFightedMikey's topic in Helix
Unless the SS power section is ONLY used to power a speaker (adds no flavor to the sound), you'll be missing whatever it adds. You would need a Load Box to use the Speaker Out on the amp with the HXS (otherwise the magic smoke will escape from the HXS). I suspect that it's just a Class D amp and doesn't try to mimic power amp tubes, that function being combined with the preamp section so that the FX Loop Send is equivalent to a Line Out (how my Catalyst works), but I'd contact Orange support to verify that. At the same time verify that the amp can be used without a speaker. It SHOULD be OK since the power amp is SS, but if not you could blow it up. If all of that that is good then you'll only need the one cable from the Orange FX Send to the HXS L/Mono Input (probably set to LINE in Global Settings) UNLESS you want FX in FRONT of the Orange. In that single cable configuration you'd want to use the HP Out on the HXS to get the benefit of the HXS FX and cabs. As soon as you get the HXS, update it to v3.50 (FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!). The new cabs are MUCH better than the old ones. Just a thought - you might want to get the HXS BEFORE you get the Orange. There's two Orange amps in the HXS (OR80 and Rockerverb 100 MkII Dirty Channel) and while I'm not an Orange guy, I've heard that they're quite good. If you ever decide to go for a real cab then all you'd need is a Class D power amp and those are pretty cheap. -
The voice of experience...
-
Really. Maybe it's just the new cabs, maybe something else under the hood, but even the Factory presets are much improved. That's all I've had time to mess with so far today, but I'm VERY happy with the update. I hope it fixed your output problem?

@mahnkiman - DD is correct on all points. I just gave you what you asked for :-) Helix can do a lot, and for a home studio or simple rehearsal setup it can be sufficient, but live performance is a different story.

Assuming that you're using Reaper's metronome for the click track, Reaper will send that to its Master Outs (which will be USB1/2 by default) to the LT's Main Outs, either 1/4" or XLR. IDK what you're using to get the Click/Backing Track to the rest of the band, so I've attached two example presets. Mahnkiman1 uses the 1/4" outs for the Click/Backing track (USB1/2 routed to 1/4" in Globals) and uses Send 2 for your Amp Return in a Path B using an A/B Split panned 100% B. Mahnkiman 2 uses the standard 4cm method of the 1/4" to the amp return, Y-split with USB1/2 routed to the XLRs in Globals for the Click/Backing Track. Either one will get the guitar signal to Reaper on USB1/2 with a cab and prevent it from reaching the Main Outs where the Click/Backing track is routed. Assuming (again) that you wouldn't be using both the Click Track and a Backing track at the same time, the Backing track can share the Main Outs with the Click. mahnkiman1.hlx mahnkiman2.hlx

The devil is in the details. Short of installing v11, which I'm certain that the greedy a-holes at Steinberg would want to charge me for even though I have v12 (did I mention that I hate Steinberg?), I have three suggestions if you MUST stick with Cubase: 1 - spend $50 for the upgrade to v12. 2 - DL the Remote Controller manual for v11 and try to figure it out yourself. Good luck - I looked at it. 3 - ask on the Stenberg Forums. Again, good luck! OR You could DL a copy of Reaper and discover what a full featured, affordable and easy to use DAW really is. FREE to use for as long as it takes (forever if you're cheap) to learn the new paradigm (power to control EVERYTHING without expensive upgrades every year), then $60 (last I looked) for a lifetime license. Example of why I hate Steinberg/Cubase. After I got through researching your issue, since I had Elements open, I decided to set up the Audio Routing. PITA. To put the frosting on the cupcake, every time I hit the allowed # of Outputs for my version (not an issue in Reaper - limited only by your AI's capabilities) the program locked up, forcing a trip to Task Manager>End Task followed by a reboot. I never got to audio/MIDI Track Routing, but it did not look flexible at all. TOTALLY flexible and virtually unlimited in Reaper. I'm not saying that the $50 upgrade fee wouldn't be worth it if the other suggestions above don't work, especially if you have a lot of time already invested in learning Cubase. Or if there's something you need to do that requires Cubase and can't be done in Reaper (doubtful). I'm just saying that you might want to at least TRY Reaper. Once you get past the initial learning curve you might will be pleasantly surprised! DISCLAIMER: I HATE Steinberg!

This was fun! Although I have Cubase 12 AE, I hate it so I never use it except for helping others figure out MIDI, so I had to figure this out from scratch. Here's the basics: I did this in my office (the dining room) using my HXS. As with most DAWs there's multiple ways to go about it. This is what I did. On the Menu line select STUDIO Select MIDI Remote Manager Select ADD SURFACE In the Vendor field click the drop-down arrow Scroll down to and select +Add Vendor Enter Line6 Model = Helix Script Creator should automatically fill in your User Name Input Port = Helix Output Port = Helix Click Create Controller Surface In the next screen you'll create the actual buttons. I set up my HXS to send NOTEs. It's usually eaiest with DAWs. In the Left Column select a controller type. Select BUTTON Press your Helix footswitches consecutively to create the buttons on the grid Select Go To Mapping Assistant Select the first button In the right hand column select the FUNCTION that you want the button to control Click APPLY MAPPING Repeat for all the buttons Close the Mapping Assistant DONE! Hope I remembered all the steps!
