  1. Not seeing that on HXS or Helix Floor, using HX Edit or on the device. Try a Factory Reset.
  2. Run the OD pedals before the HXS and put the H9 in the stereo loop.
  3. You understand correctly. NORMALLY, one would NOT use an IR (a simulation of a mic'd guitar cab) into a REAL guitar cab. Your question was: #3 was an example of where IRs would come in, and where in the signal chain. As for the RULES? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' RULES!!! I have a Catalyst100. Sometimes, when I'm running my Helix into the RETURN of the Cat, I use a Helix amp AND a Cab! BUT... But... the Catalyst is a Class D amp running into a guitar speaker in an open-back guitar cab! Why would I do that? Because, IN ESSENCE, an IR is simply a different kind of tone control (yes, yes, it's more than that, blah blah). I do it because I LIKE the way it sounds! Which also answers your question about 4cm. No, it's NOT necessary.
  4. No. There's a learning curve for everything. Was the learning curve required to play guitar worth it? The MAIN reasons for learning any DAW are to record the sound of you playing guitar and for composing songs with multiple parts. The MAIN purpose for using Native within a DAW is to be able to easily re-amp a part for comparison/combination. There's lots of other reasons to use a DAW, but most of those can be accomplished using anything from a simple VST Host to a (much more complex than your average DAW) HOST/Performance SW such as Cantabile, which also allows for a simple two track recording of said performance. All that said, once you've gotten past the basic setup and configuration issues using a DAW can be as simple as pushing the buttons on a tape recorder (digital recorder if you're not old enough to remember tape). You can even use your Helix/HXS to push those buttons. If recording doesn't interest you, don't worry about it. Just play yer guitar. If you generally have trouble using computers, don't worry about it. Just play yer guitar. FWIW - I once tried Audacity and thought it was awful. Other people get on with it just fine. I use Reaper (practically unlimited options and nearly FREE), and I started on Cakewalk (now Cakewalk by Bandlab - FREE, very easy to use and prettier than Reaper). Final thoughts - while Helix/HXS makes a perfectly acceptable recording interface, using it to play through Native (or any plugin) introduces a relatively (relative to many other AIs) high amount of LATENCY - the time between when you pick the note and when you hear it. You might find that annoying, and there's no reason to put up with it if you have a Helix/HXS for direct monitoring while recording. Just sayin'...
  5. Here's just three simple scenarios: 1 - Joe uses a Fender Deluxe for small gigs. No FX Loop. the HXFX is the world's biggest, tiniest pedalboard. IRs not needed. 2 - Joe's fly-rig has an AIAB in the HXFX Loop and runs out to an FRFR/FOH using an IR. 3- For serious R'n'R Joe LOVES his Triple Rec. He SPITS on digital amp sims! No doubt though, the HXFX sounds good enough for FX, has lots of options and is a lot easier to deal with than a HUGE pedalboard. He plugs his guitar into the HXFX, connects to the Triple Rec via 4cm (using SEND/RETURN1) and uses SEND2 to return to his amp's RETURN. He places a Load Box/Attenuator between his Power Amp and MB OS 412 cab, then takes the Line Out from the Load Box back to HXFX RETURN2. The signal then goes thru an IR of a MB OS 412 and Out to FOH. Joe gets to hear his beloved Triple Rec onstage without vaporizing the fans in the front row and FOH gets a manageable signal for the Mains. SUMMARY - The entire Helix family is about OPTIONS. Joe doesn't need 40 amp sims. He does need the other options, including more footswitches than the HXS offers, and the Scribble Strips make it easy for Joe to set it all up and use.
  6. There's at least 3 problems here: The Native won't open SD card problem The no SD card but won't open problem - fixed (AFAIK - worked for me) by a recent change on the L6 end The UI glitch - performing certain actions - moving a block, moving a slider on the new Cab Block, maybe others - crashes Reaper The UI glitch was brought up in another thread and I was able to confirm. Hopefully, they opened a support ticket.
  7. Wrong. He's just another dork with a guitar and an opinion. Steve Vai is who he is because he never lacked for self-confidence. Nor did he waste his time hanging around in forums. He played his guitar. We should all do that more. Our opinions still won't be worth 541t, same as Steve Vai, but he'll still be a better guitar player than me.
  8. Maybe it's time to reinstall Windows. Sometimes a clean start is what it takes. Don't forget to find and back up anything you don't want to lose.
  9. I would just add to this that using MIDI you can set the level of the HF Driver (tweeter) to taste, per preset. This is one thing that you can't do over L6 Link.
  10. I'm VERY happy with it with this caveat. L6 link AUDIO is great. L6 link with Helix Preset Control is undependable. There's lengthy threads on the subject over at the TGP D&M Forum if you want the details. I get around that by using MIDI for control of the Powercab. Totally dependable and really not that tough to do. There's a whole crew of us over there who've been trying everything we can think of to get L6 to do an Update and fix the problems. I'm HOPING that they've held off on the update because they've been so busy with the Helix updates, and because they've been waiting for the new cab tech to prove itself as they plan to somehow incorporate it into the Powercabs. The fact that they absolutely refuse to respond in any way to anything concerning the Powercabs does not bode well considering how many L6 people are all over that forum answering questions about Helix. Hope springs eternal... Don't let that deter you from getting a PC212. I recommend it over the PC112 (I had one) not only for the Stereo (real fun if you like to fool around with ambient sounds) but because just like a regular 212 guitar cab sounds bigger and has more bottom than a 112, the PC212 sounds MUCH better than the PC112, even in mono. Even if they never fix the emulations and the L6 link problems, I don't regret the purchase.
  11. If you want super wide stereo, get two 112's. The faux stereo in the PC212 (what I have) sounds surprisingly wide, but it's not the same as two amps 12 feet apart panned L/R. Are you planning on using L6 Link? If so, I'm not sure where the summing takes place, but it really doesn't matter. If you're using an XLR audio cable to a single PC you'll take it from the Helix L/Mono Out to the Powercab. Some things to keep in mind - stereo presets sometimes sound strange when summed to mono. If you're starting with a single PC create your presets in mono. When you add your second PC you can create a new setlist consisting of your mono presets rebuilt in stereo. When using stereo on stage, assuming one on each side, the audience on the left will be hearing a different signal than the audience on the right, and 10 people in the audience who happen to be standing in the stereo "sweet spot" will hear it the way you want it to be heard. This is part of the reason that most FOH techs won't want your stereo signal, because they know this.
  12. IDK. All that matters is that it is what it is ;-)
  13. Select Block. Press ACTION. Snapshot Bypass is the 5th knob. Default is ON.
  14. If your HXS is at 3.50, make sure your HX Edit is 3.50. Turn the HXS ON.

    3.50 and Reaper

AH HA! I was looking for Native to totally crash out of Reaper. Apparently, something I did crashed the Reaper Audio Engine. I wasn't looking for that! After closing Reaper and reloading it, the project totally crashed Reaper. I needed to open the project in safe mode to delete Native, after which the rest of the project was fine. You've got a BUG! Open a Support Ticket and PLEASE report back!

    3.50 and Reaper

I've also tried a bunch of other things - moving sliders in the new cab block, assigning/controlling the Volume block, changing effect types in existing blocks, path routing, new blocks - nothing is crashing Native. Have you tried deleting the track and recreating it? Deleting the track, closing Reaper and uninstalling/reinstalling Native? Just spitballing here, I can't crash Reaper with Native no matter what I do, including making the above changes and letting it sit.

You still haven't clarified what "move a box" means. I assume you mean moving a block in a Native preset. I'm also on Reaper 6.70 and if that's what you mean, I can't duplicate the problem.
  18. If I understand what you're trying to do, there's several ways to go about it: 1 - use an A/B/Y box between your guitar and your AI and use 2 channels on the AI. The disadvantage to this method is that the pickups will not be loaded properly for certain FX because the A/B/Y box will likely load them at 1M and the built-in Helix Auto Impedance function won't work. 2 - use a SEND at the beginning of the Helix signal chain to send an unprocessed signal to a second AI channel. Again, if using FX in Native that require <1M pickup load you would need to change the Impedance by linking it to the FS that activates the effect, as the SEND (IIRC) is 1M and the effect will come after the SEND. 3 - Don't use FX that require other than 1M to sound "authentic". 4 - If you're using a MAC, create an "AGGREGATE" ASIO device, thus allowing you to use BOTH the Helix and Focusrite at the same time. 5 - If you're using a PC use ASIO4ALL. This (might) allow you to do the same as a MAC with an "AGGREGATE" device. I say MIGHT because I've never had any luck using ASIO4ALL - latency and other issues - but then, I haven't spent much time trying it. 6 - When you want to do re-amping, just go into your DAW's Preferences and change the ASIO device from Focusrite to Helix and use USB 7/8 for the clean signal, keeping in mind what I said above about impedance. That's how I do it. Also, I just don't use FX that require <1M impedance (refer to 3).
  19. They just sent out the weekly Ideascale email. Maybe you never noticed the timing before? Or maybe you've had a lot of good ideas lately... :-)
  20. Dude, you are totally missing the point and making a big deal out of nothing! Go back to the first post in which the word "religion" was used. My comment was directed at THAT poster and related to THAT statement. All it was intended to do was to point out THAT poster's lack of a sense of humor. In your attempt to prevent this from "blowing up", you did EXACTLY that by not recognizing an attempt at humor! Here's an opinion: The world needs more Pastafarians!
  21. I think I always have been - I just didn't know it until now!
  22. To select a different setlist you use the CC32 setting, where a value 0f 0-7 = setlist 1-8. This works well if you know that from this preset you'll want to be able to go to that preset in another setlist (keeping in mind my previous post about the shortcomings of this method), but personally I can't see where having a preset (used simply for changing setlists) available in every setlist so that you can press the Bank/Preset UP/DOWN buttons as many times as necessary to get to the preset which then takes you to a different setlist where you must press the Bank/Preset UP/DOWN buttons as many times as necessary to get to the desired preset is easier than bending down and using the Preset knob unless you have serious back problems, in which case an external MIDI controller would be a good investment. But hey, whatever works for you! :-)
  23. Context. Humor. Context. Humor. Context humor. All of it, including punctuation, matters, especially in a text discussion. The only belief being challenged here is that someone could consider the actual subject matter of this forum in the context of a religion. That some people actually do is silly. @SaschaFranck- Thanks for that link. Made my day!
  24. It's either 4cm or Stereo Aux In. Or use USB.
