  1. So here is the two solutions I mentioned above, more or less, attached to this post. I just arbitrarily chose the boost and delay effects. Solution 1 uses two sets of the same effects. FS1 toggles set 1 (400ms delay) and FS2 toggles set 2 (600ms delay). Solution 2 uses only one of each effect and both are toggled by FS1. The delay is controlled by the expression pedal on EXP1 - 400ms in the heel position and 600ms in the toe down position. One thing to note about this is the min and max values on the controller tab in HD Edit uses percentage rather than milliseconds. 20% is roughly 400ms and 30% is roughly 600ms, if I didn't terribly screw up the math. Helix FAQ

There is an ideascale entry that would treat the power amp as a separate block. But just that, none of the extra parameters you mention.
  3. Have you tried the early reflections setting on the amp? That may be enough of what you're looking for. Or try the room reverb. Mess around with the settings, particularly the decay, and keep the mix rather low, anywhere from 5% to 20%.

    Helix FAQ

I asked number 1 before and DI said you can at each path output. So I took that to mean you can insert a VST at up to 3 points in the signal chain. Don't know number 2. Number 3 is no.
  5. I've noticed the unbalanced effect you talk about. It's pretty apparent through headphones and the only one I've noticed it on is the stereo delay, and if it's set up to produce a ping-pong effect. To fix, or compensate, for it adjust the feedback controls. The delay with the longer time needs less feedback, or the one with less time more feedback - if I remember correctly. You can't assign an effect to more than one switch. Not quite sure what you want to accomplish. You want: 1. boost and delay (400ms) on one button 2. boost, delay (400ms), and delay (600ms) on another button or: 3. boost, delay (600ms instead of 400ms) on another button For number 1 and 2, why not just assign another delay block (600ms) to another switch? For number 3, I can think of 2 solutions: 1. dsp and fx block permitting, have two sets of each effect - boost and delay (400ms), boost and delay (600ms). Each set would be controlled by a separate switch. 2. have the two effects controlled by one switch (both on/off at the same time, the first effect in the chain controls the led). Then use either EXP1 or EXP2 to control the min and max values for the delay, 400ms in the heel position, 600ms in the toe position, or vice versa.

    Helix Demo Videos

Same impression here. That tone with the octavia effect was really grating. I also noticed the 'farting tones' with the Fender amp, lol. Good to see a short demo with one of the filters. Let's see more. For demoing the higher gain amps, something other than a Fender guitar might have been better. It didn't 'look' quite right for some reason. But they sounded good. While the pedal is blocky looking, it looks cool. They should have intentionally made it look more like a cleaver. What exactly is a petrified cleaver anyway?
  7. If you got the HD500X new, it should have come with right cable, otherwise: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-2-0-Cable-A-Male/dp/B00NH11KIK
  8. I think this is one of the stronger points about units like this, despite having all kinds of effects loops. All kinds of appendages hanging off of each other can get rather disorderly - judging from pictures. I'm sure there's lots of people out there that like a simplified setup and less points of failure.
  9. For anyone that cares, doing an offline firmware reflash from one version to the same version does keep any existing authorized amp packs intact.
  10. Even then, as hurghanico pointed out, if you do an offline reflash, everything would likely stay intact. I think all the amp packs are actually always there in the device, they are just unlocked when authorized, and reflashing offline (maybe even online) doesn't undo that. Edit: Now that I think of it, this is just guessing. I've never updated either of my devices since having the amp packs authorized. Now I have think about trying this.
  11. Actually, Line 6 is the one ultimately losing out on this. But they probably knew and discussed of situations like this from the beginning. The only way for them to not lose is if they tied the physical device to the internet everytime it's turned on. Certainly not realistic.
  12. What if the giftee has more than one device registered in his/her account? Is there anywhere that specifically says this?
  13. I'm interested in the answer to this too as I have an HD500 that I'll likely get rid of soon with all the amp packs installed. My guess is that you'll be able to use the added amps in it, but if you try and update the firmware (is your current version 2.62?), if a new version even comes out anymore, you'll lose the amp packs. Also, if you try and run the license manager, while logged in, and with the pod turned on, you might lose the amps packs, but it might actually take a manual deauthorization to dump them. Not really sure. HD Edit and Monkey are probably fine to run. I guess the right thing to do would have been for the original owner to deauthorize the device before it was sold. Or he could have gifted you the amp packs to the account you registered it with - there is a link for this in his support account. It could be that he had the amp packs installed on more than one device though, and wanted to keep the packs on the device(s) he kept. If you feel not quite right about using the amp packs, you should be able to get rid of them yourself by running the license manager. I would think the program is smart enough to know the amp packs shouldn't be there and remove them.
  14. If you mean the amp DEP (mv, sag, hum, bias, bias x) and cab DEP (lo-cut, res, thump, decay) then Line 6 is aware of the problem and working on a fix, according to a support ticket I opened about this. But it's been quite a long time so who really knows... If you mean the drive, tone stack, channel volume, and e.r. controls not showing their values, haven't seen that one and not sure what would cause that.
  15. What happens when you hold the down arrow while powering on? Which is a sort of forced flashing mode. @hurghanico - lol at the nothingness avatar.
  16. There are some, ones with bass and treble controls, that can affect the echos a little differently. If bass and treble are left at the default 50%, and the mix is at 50%, the repeats will have less energy because bass and treble are cut by half. A couple of other things that can affect the perception of repeats is whether listening through isolating headphones vs some other method, and the mix the guitar part is played against.
  17. Wow. That really surprises me. I was almost certain. But after listening again with knowing the answer a couple of things jump out at me, which may simply be because of not trying to tone match. The amp sounds more dynamic and has more of the aawww sound people try and get in their tones. The HD sounds both fuller and flatter at the same time, maybe because of scooped mids, or lacking treble as you mentioned, or relatively too much low end. In any case, the HD certainly holds it own against a real amp.
  18. The second was the amp. The first was the HD. I could recognize the overlay of sizzle, might even be mild digital clipping, from the HD. What I think was the amp was quite a bit cleaner sounding.
  19. It seems LIne 6 has finally released some new drivers that adds specific support for Windows 10: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=6501 Let's hope a new version of HD Edit lurks close behind.
  20. Looks like you just did. :) But isn't 'tone is in the fingers' just obeying what your brain is telling your fingers which your mind is telling your brain, uh, nevermind.
  21. Nice. The acoustic sounds are especially pleasing. Sometimes I wonder when Helix is more saturated among guitarists throughout the world, will the perception of the HD series change to its detriment? Will there be a bunch of people listening to HD produced clips and asking, "How come I didn't noticed that before? That's bad! Hey Bob, c'mere and listen to this, never noticed before, but now this kinda sucks!" Combine that with the tendency for people to play follow the leader and all kinds of comparison videos popping up, and you have potential for HD sound quality to actually, really change. Of course the sound quality doesn't actually change, but isn't sound purely based on one's perception? So to try and answer chuskey's question, revisit your video in a year or so. Maybe you'll even have a comparison video! When talking about this topic, I assume it's in the context of people who are sensitive to slight, very minor changes in guitar tone. So casual music listeners without a trained ear probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference between ten-year old modeling technology, a real amp, an axe-fx, kemper, etc. In that sense, you could safely say the HD can definitely still hang, for a very very long time too.
  22. Makes sense. Soon it will be the guessing game with Helix. I noticed there is a new amp control in there called ripple, grouped with bias, bias x, sag, and hum.
  23. I checked that before I posted, and just checked again. Double clicking enter brings up the amp knobs on the screen, but the four encoders below the screen change the amp, cab, mic, and a toggle between amps if using dual amps. Double clicking enter also gives access to the DEP controls.
  24. Unfortunately, no. The only way to avoid using the physical amp knobs is using HD Edit.
