  1. Also, the cabinet parameters are what I use to get bass levels perfect.
  2. What's your line/amp switch set to?
  3. Geared largely for high gain tones. Not an easy read, but full of great ideas. Recommended often in these parts... http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/
  4. Just curious as to your opinions and experiences if so. I am looking at completing the so called Dream Rig where I alsready have a JTV59 and POD HD500. Acoustic tones are as important to me as electric tones which I've heard leaves the DT25 out, but correct me if I am wrong..
  5. I surely hope so my friend...I'm glad to hear it. If I can get convinced, I might just spring for a pair of L2 series stage source speakers or a DT25 amp ;) Right now, I'm hedged against furthering my already considerable investment in a JTV59 and POD HD500 until I see something from Line6 indicating a commitment to the whole Dream Rig concept going forward.
  6. Good point, similar to the bias people have for say Fender, Marshall or Mesa amps for example. Good catch.
  7. I feel vaguely offended by this post. Meh, I'm over it. Point 1: If guitar amp and effect modelling was totally "there", wouldn't everyone be using it everywhere? Apparently the burgeoning boutique amp, pedal and guitar market didn't get the memo. Point 2: You're just as bad as anyone saying "it isn't there" by insulting someone for their opinion. And Jimi could play as loud as he wanted because, well, he was Jimi. Point3: If modelling was totally there, why do companies continue to innovate in this area and "up the ante" as it were. Like our very own favorite modelling company Line6 for example who brought us the end all, be all of the PODXT line only to dump it for the HD line? Just saying man. Something that is truly THERE stands the test of time. Like Leo Fender's original designs. And Les Paul's. And Jim Marshall's. And etc...So, when modelling is truly there, it'll stay there. All that said, it works fine for many people and in most cases, and audience couldn't tell the difference if you held an Uzi to their heads anyway. Personally, I have both analog and digital gear and I like them both. But since I have original spec Fender amps and Line6's HD models of same, I'm here to tell you it isn't the same thing and I would be willing to take a blindfold test if one could be arranged. It'd be OK if I was wrong too, but that's how I see it right now. Peace. Music. Choice. It's all good. Edited to add that this is nothing personal about the quoted poster here, just my thoughts on the content. Heck, we pretty much agree in principal anyway lol...
  8. Friendly thread...I feel used and I didn't even reply to it. Ever the optimist I see. Good for you, but I don't share it myself. I feel the JTV and POD HD Lines are an endangered species myself.
  9. Why bother? He gets great sounds as is. Besides, they are perpetually on tour it seems and changing mid-tour is likely ill advised. http://www.doobfan.com/tour/tour_dates5.htm
  10. below is a video that gives the formulae for U2 Edge style stacked delays. I use this and similar a lot, albeit not in a Worship environment.
  11. This is my experience as well. Never even had to use switch cleaner yet on any of my Strats or Teles. Knowing quite a bit about electronic circuits plus seeing all the back plates on my JTV59 (not counting the battery compartment), methinks the bulk of the price of this guitar is in that and the mechanical parts are less than stellar to keep costs in low orbit. A simplt thing like a 5 (or 3) way switch ought to last near forever really and is self cleaning with use and little exposure to smoking. That said, I haven't taken my guitar apart because it scares the hell out of me -- and I've had large parts of KC-135 aircraft autopilot gear spread all over hangar floors in my time. But that switch could be an absolutely beast below the waterline, similar to an iceberg -- owing to the myriad of things it really controls aside from the magnetics. This may mean "one off part" which is sketchy if not QCd properly.
  12. Same problem here...had it a while. But since I rarely use the magnetics, I'd forgotten about it. Seems like a design defect with a substandard part since I know others have this same issue. Big surprise.
  13. I use my JTV59 for looping with the POD HD500 plus a Boss RC-30 Loop Station in stereo. This gives me a plethora of choices at my fingertips along with alternate tunings and acoustic capabilities. Still taming this rig for use outside my studio however in terms of volume leveling and patch locations. Still, the possibilities are large.
  14. Wow, what an epic fail that is for the user base. This of course points to one thing for me... There is only so much information you can shove through the digital pipes and perhaps the upgrade to FW2.0 necessitated the separation of the audio and the digital information stream . With a straight VDI connection, both travel digitally (I think) and communicate with the HD500 with guitar info plus sound info. By using the dongle, those are separated and that frees up all all 480kbs/sec to carry modelling info. Or I could be totally full of lollipope.... Either way, not going to hold my breath waiting for a fix.
  15. Why won't a JTV59 work through a POD HD500 to connect to workbench? I mean, why do we have to use this glorified dongle? Anyone know?
  16. Oh great, now I gotta worry about my JTV59 toggle switch crapping out? So far so good... Thanks for the heads up...
  17. I voted no, but I do wish I'd gotten the JTV69S as opposed to the JTV59 at times just because I am at heart a Strat guy. But I have learned to bend the neck a bit which suffices for some warble so I guess it'll do there (except of course for playing any modern Jeff Beck lol)...
  18. The last few sessions with own own version of a Dream Rig have been so enjoyable, I felt the need to share it here, especially sInce I have been moderately vocal about the goings on at Line6 since the Yamaha buy out. My setup is a JTV59 -> POD HD500 -> BossRC-30 Loop Station -> Tech21 Power Engine (x2). I am not gigging regularly with this setup at present, but I will likely be taking it to an upcoming open mic affair. In preparing for that, I have REALLY dug into the bowels of my rig and instead of lamenting what I perceived I couldn't do with it or otherwise focusing on it's shortcomings (real or perceived). The results have been startling to say the least, especially since I damn near sold it all off recently. The things that have made it different include: Using the Cabinet parameters, especially the Lo Cut and Early Reflections parameters. Doing this has allowed me to taylor, for example a 12" Deluxe Reverb cabinet into more of a 10" Princeton type sound. Copious use of EQ to weed out the crazy overtones and tame to signal path where it needs it. Observing the "less is more" rule of effects use. Sure, I can make whacky sounds that some of the more esoteric effects provide, but at times just a pinch is even better for that "is it really there" type of effect -- especially with modulation type effects. Using multiple delays (of multiple types) and using synchronization in sequence to provide some very tasty backdrops for looping. Stepping outside my comfort zone of prefered effects. Fotr example, I almost reflexively grab the 63 Spring reverb out of long time habit. But I have found that the Octo reverb is an exellent pad type tone to add to many of the type of sounds I do with my rig. Great dscovery there. Also, the Echo is very useful as well as Tile reverb at times. Learning to love Compression. As a long time Fender tube amp buy, I always felt that compressors stole my dynamics. But in the context of the POD, it adds so much clarity while keeping the notes discernable. I like it so much, I got an Xotic SP Compressor (with a blend knob) for my analog rig and it stays on all the time now. So I guess what I am saying is what another member said somewhere along the trail of tears that has been here recently -- "I am just going to have fun with what I have" I believe were their exact words. It's worth remembering this at all times to me, and even more so as we all wait for Line6 to establish it's new directions as a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha.
  19. Seriously? On a $1400 guitar you have to do surgery (however minor) that involves little circles of cardborad? Alrightythen.... Glad the OP got his guitar working the way it should have to begin with and, of course, the people of this forum are great help all around -- but man that kind of thing is to me unacceptable.
  20. Not really...you can choose 4 different effects at once, and can interchange three on each of those 4 per set. Since I have a POD HD500 and know how the M13 works, if you are looking for effects only with the amp sim overhead, the M13 is better suited to that. It's the purpose it was built for to begin with. Best of luck sir...
  21. Trade it for an M13...
  22. But the people in THIS forum have already drank the Kool-Aid whereas at TGP, there is an opportunity to suborn the lost minions.
