  1. Rigzilla! I've done that setup at the music store and it sounds unbelievable! Thanks to a Line 6 Rep who spent a great deal of time with me when I was considering my Dream Rig. There is no better sounding rig for the money. Having that setup live could be heaven (incredible tone, amazing flexibility) or hell ("I think I've connected everything correctly, why don't I have any signal?" or "why did this reboot in the middle of my acoustic solo?") Many, including myself, have had trouble getting a single DT, HD500 and JTV to behave in concert and consistently. When you have that many working parts, just be prepared for it poop out on you at the most inconvenient time.
  2. When you say practice tool, what type of practice are you referring to? Who needs a 75/150 watt amp to practice AC/DC covers in the bedroom? With a Sonic Port iPad and headphones, You can rock out all night long! If you are referring to practicing with a band, then this is the amp you plan on using in a live situation. I mean why would anyone practice with their band using an amp they had no intention of using live right? Now I am back to who wants to go to a cloud to get a tone? What if the club has no wi-fi? Why is my tone so synthetic? Why am I rockin' a 150 watt amp in my bedroom? this one confuses me. But it sure does look sharp! Technology can be a wonderful thing. Sometimes not.
  3. I sat with the amplifi for about 2 hours today. It is the most unusable and synthetic sounding amp I have ever sat with. Slick bells and whistles, fancy pants iPad app, pulling tones from the cloud? What the hell? Hopefully Line 6 sells 6 million of these things so they can have enough money to design a kick butt all tube amp with a volume, treble, bass and master knob. One that pugs in and sounds balls to the wall without having to go to the cloud to dial in a tone. Cloud? Bluetooth? iPad? You have to have a frickin' internet connection!! Come on MAN!
  4. I will try. I am a computer looser. I first have to find out what a zip file is and then how to attach it. Be patient with me grasshopper.
  5. Does anyone know what is custom about these amps? Ive tried to contact Line 6 about them but have not had a response. Is it just the color?
  6. Been there. But I must respectfully point out that an external Variax model exchange site is not what I was proposing. I have a great patch that I call Kashmir. It is a particular guitar with particular tuning and pickups arranged in a particular fashion played through a particular series of fx that drive my DT 50 which has a particular class and topology setting. Jimmy Page is in the room with me when I play it! It would be nice to share that in one swoop on one site in one area dedicated to the dream rig. To me, that doesn't seem that complicated. Especially for those of us who payed for the top of the line flagship gear from Line 6. Imagine the possibilities!
  7. i think i understand. thanx for the lesson. A bit confusing but I can feel the fog starting to lift.
  8. Can you explain what the 12ax7's do in the DT's that is different than what they do in a "traditional" valve amp?
  9. I knew where you were coming from. But it is interesting that the DT literature referres to "preamp tubes" "Switchable analog components. Each Voicing can become a classic powerhouse or totally customized thanks to tube amp guru Reinhold Bogner’s uniquely flexible design. The (2) 12AX7 preamp and 50W, (2) EL34 power section offer easy reconfiguration of operating class (Class A/Class AB) and power tube mode (Pentode/Triode) for a wide range of feels and tones that can be added to each Voicing: modern or vintage, tight or dynamic." "What configurations do the amps come in? DT50 112 50W/25W (2) 12AX7 preamp tubes, (2) EL34 power tubes 1x12" Celestion® G12H90 speaker DT50 212 50W/25W (2) 12AX7 preamp tubes, (2) EL34 power tubes 1x12" Celestion® G12H90 speaker 1x12" Celestion® Vintage 30 speaker DT50 Head 50W/25W (2) 12AX7 preamp tubes, (2) EL34 power tubes" And the spec page clearly talks about 12ax7 preamp tubes. You have never given be bad info so I believe what you are saying, but you can see why there may be some confusion on this one. Hey line 6, maybe you could do a walk through video about this pre amp thing. It would be great to get clear understanding of how this amp works.
  10. Well that's just great! I get the dumbed down version of my wife's doctor stuff, I get the dumbed down version of my kids hockey stuff and now I'm gettin' it here! I specifically stated that i knew the DT didn't have preamp tubes and he still felt it needed to be dumbed down? He couldn't just say "you are right, i was referrigng to the 12AX7's? That's not dumbing it down, that's pretty close to a fib. That's just wrong man and is really confusing!
  11. I sent my DT50 2X12 in for repairs. Here is how the support ticket went: *Can you tell me what the hell was up with my DT? *Hi, Looks like the tubes were going bad. Normally there's just a 90-day warranty on the tubes, however we replaced the preamp and power tubes on your amp and rebiased them. *Preamp tubes? What you talkin' 'bout Willis? There aren't any Preamp tubes. Right? or am I totally out to lunch? *Hi, yes there are preamp tubes, they're the 12AX7's. There seems to be a bit of a disconnect. This Line 6 person says that indeed, the DT50 has preamp tubes. You are saying that it doesn't. I think a comparative diagram would be helpful. One of a "normal" tube amp and one of a DT amp.
  12. I have been trying to find ANY pro guitarist who uses Line 6 stuff. I was particularly looking for anyone who had a DT amp on stage. Well I didn't find any DT's yet but I did find this…. Anybody remember Jesse Johnson? Some of the best rhythm chops around! The photo is labeled, "Jesse's Custom Line 6 HD 100's." I wonder what is customized about them? Wanna hear 'em in action?
  13. I think this will answer your questions. http://line6.com/dtv2update/ Congrats on your new rig. Cheers
  14. …it would be nice to also have a dream rig specific custom tone area. I have a fantastic Masonite Plank guitar with a lipgloss pickup in the neck position @ 6.2" an angle of 12.0. The tone control resistance is set @ 250 and the capacitance is set @ 2.2nF I won't go into the 3 altered tunings that I have. My DT 50 is set to class A in triode. I am using a Plexi Brt pre with no cab sim on the HD 500 and the……ok, now I'm tired of typing. I can continue explaining this awesome setup after I take a nap….. OR We can just hook everything up and hit send! It would be like giving other dream rig owners a New guitar, a New fx board and a New amp! For those of us that use our rig to gig, think of the possibilities. If you feel me, cast a vote... http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Dream-rig-custome-tone/593897-23508 Cheers
  15. Great! You've got some work cut out for you. I would first got to the empty slots on one of the user banks and start with the first amp model. I think its the Blackface DBL. Make it sound good, save it and move on to the next. Some tips I have found useful: *Use Pre amp models *Turn off the Cab sim *Make the amp sound good clean first. Then decide what type of distortion you want. If you want any at all. *Each amp model behaves differently. Take time to learn those differences *Tweak your patches and amp settings with a specific guitar model. For example a patch and amp setup may sound fantastic with the magnetic pickups and sound lousy when using the Lester guitar model. Even if plug a Tele straight into the front of an amp, you are going to have to make adjustments to that amp when you plug in your Les Paul. Same rules apply. Have fun!
  16. Not quite sure what you mean. Studying music theory and learning how to get the most out of your new Dream Rig is not an either/or. I assume you will do both. Sometimes you will practice guitar and other times you will turn some knobs on your gear. If you want guidance on how to get the most out of the Pod portion of your dream rig, I would start here http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ Which amp did you get? Which JTV did you get? Which POD did you get?
  17. The gubment took it down for a reason. I didn't see why the gubment took it down but I bet I can make a good guess. A bunch of disgruntled line 6'ers started hurling insults at those who dared to express an opinion contrary to the prevalent talking point. I've seen it all to often on this forum and have personally razor bladed that line myself. You can participate on this forum and write off people as being a shill of Line 6 if you want to, but it doesn't help those who are looking for valid, timely info that will help them make a sound purchasing decision. Is it asking too much to say that hurling insults and nastiness at one another is not the way we as fellow Line 6'ers/musicians/guitarists should interact? FYI- Participate here long enough, and you too can be labeled an expert guru! They don't have super powers. They are musicians/guitarist/humans with a perspective. Take it or leave it! If I hurled an insult at everyone who didn't share a similar perspective as mine then I would live in a constant state of blah!!! ...and as I am fond of saying..."Ain't nobody got time for that! Let's stay positive! Let's stay in MUSIC!... You too Line 6!
  18. I'm recording with Logic Pro 9. my tone sounds one way when I am monitoring it but when I assign it to a track to record, my tone sounds totally different and playback sounds different from the first two. Any ideas Thanx!
  19. There was a thread titled "Say something Line 6" It disappeared. What happened?
  20. I always have back up. You are righ about that. I don't think that my main rig should have this many problems. Or else it is not my main rig and is just a heavy consumer of stage space.
  21. I've got a computer with a pretty nasty virus that functions more consistently. I can deal with rebooting in the studio. It is just unacceptable to have to reboot onstage. Can you imagine Robben Ford scrambling around on stage troubleshooting why no sound is coming out of his amp while in the middle of his show? How long do you think a guitarist is going to keep a good paying gig with a popular working band if he/she is rebooting every set? I may be auditioning for a Tower of Power guitar slot soon. If I get this audition, Ya think I'm bringing my "Dream Rig"? Hells No! Not until I can do 100 shows problem free! No more excuses! I don't want to hear about how computers are glitchy or that tube amps are temperamental or how if I buy this power do-hickey or that attenuating widget it will make my gear behave! The gear should behave because it is thoughtfully crafted, meticulously tested and held to the highest standard of quality control! Is that really too much to ask from a companies "top of the line" "flagship" gear?
  22. I hear ya! You and I are just in different positions. I already sprang for the full Monty. That's how I roll. If I like something, I get the top of the line. I go all in. Sure I will think twice about purchasing the new DT50X or what ever they decide to call the next generation of DT amps but that doesn't help those of us who have "gone for it". My dollar vote has been cast and now I am stuck with it! If I could get my money back, I would! But I can't so all I am left with is ranting on this forum and secretly hoping and praying that they deliver a rig that consistently works, consistently sounds good, brings that new technology to the working musician that is reliable and awesome! I want to represent to the world that Line 6 has a line of gear that is worth taking a serious look at. At this point, I wouldn't recommend the Dream Rig. But I am willing, even now, to change that. Because I don't want to look like a fool who went "all out" on gear that historically has been geared to non pro players. The part that is most frustrating is my rig sounds Fabulous when it works! My guitar is awesome. The HD sounds great in the studio and live. Even my on again off again DT50 2x12 sounds great. It really could be a dream rig. I will wait. Hopefully the fix it shop can deliver me something that a working musician can use. If they do, I'll sing the praises of Line 6 twice as diligently as I have expressed my frustrations. Hell, I'll even put the Line 6 logo back on the front of the amp and buy a T-Shirt and ball cap!
  23. EXACTLY! So, with that said… maybe Line 6 should bow out of the "we want to be a contender in the world of pro players" and go back to marketing to bedroom beginners who like to rock out to Master of Puppets! Not that there is anthing wrong with that. Line 6 does a good job with that. But it insults my intelligence to have a Line 6 tech tell me that my issues with my DT50 are solely due to the temperamental nature of tube amps! Who do they think they are talking to? OR….They can pull it together and live up to their self imposed hype. Seeing as how I always root for the under dog in prize fights and super bowls, I am hoping and praying that line 6 pulls it together and knocks my socks off! I would be proud to walk into a jam session with a bunch of pompous boutique amp owning so and so's with my $1000 Line 6 amp and have them say "Damn that amp sounds good!" as opposed to what they say now….."dude….What's up with your amp? Why are all the lights on with no sound?….Ohhhh, its a Line 6. Hey bro, I think I have a REAL amp you can borrow since your junk ain't working!" It is humiliating and embarrassing.
