  1. Arislaf, why you no like my nod to the late great Frank Zappa? Maybe I should have used this other pic... I still stand by the sentiment. And it's a great live album. You should check it out!
  2. Not sure if you have a second expression pedal. Get one if you don't. Assign the #2 expression pedal to control your amps volume. Now you have your FX block back. What's really great about this technique is that you can assign any amp parameter to one expression pedal. For example, as you decrease your amp volume, I can at the same time increase the presence to avoid loosing high end as you are decreasing the volume. It is the ultimate volume pedal. I took a page from your book and got the Eventide H9 Max. I can't tell you enough just how huge that was for my setup. The Eventide gives me delays, modulation, reverb and pitch. MIDI control to boot. And to be real about it, the FX in the H9 are superior to those in the POD. It cost me $700, but to me and my band with as much as we play, well worth it. Probably overkill but I want my stuff sounding right. And no more DSP issues for me. The Zoom is a great sounding unit as well and for $100 you can't beat it. Lack of MIDI killed that as an option for me.
  3. Where does your Pod HD fit into this equation?
  4. We Pro's also know the most important rule….
  5. Yepper Colonel! Try everything! What I have found helpful is to pick one output and stick with it. For example when I went with studio direct, I turned off the cab simulation got the PHD Motorway amp model sounding perfect. Now I have to make every amp model sound good with that selected output. Once I stopped tweaking every possible setting and focused on tone, I never looked back. With that said, I only ever use 1 or 2 amp models live (it all depends on the room I'm playing in). So getting 2 amp models to sound the way I need them to sound was fairly easy. I feel sorry for those POD Heads who have to switch between 6 different amps in one song! Never did understand that thought process. Have fun playing guitar!
  6. None of that matters. Don't over analyze this. Use your ears. Plug it up and go with what sounds best to you. Get the second amp though. It is a huge difference over having just a single amp. Dual tones take on a whole new meaning. You won't be dissapointed. Don't let the tweaking minutiae paralyze you. GO FOR IT! I set the output mode to studio direct. I only use pre-amp models and I turn off the cab simulation. Because I have an L2M for acoustic work, studio direct works well for my set up. That is my preference. Someone else will wonder why I do it that way. My answer is because that is what sounds good to me. All of this stuff about what amp adjusts to what in the chain via L6 link output modes and all that mess just confused me and kept me fiddling with stuff rather than using my ears and playing guitar. Ready, Fire, Aim!
  7. I don't know about some of what you said Bobbo. How does IdeaScale give everyone the expectation that the product is going to be expanded on? That's like stubbing your toe at the same time that lightning strikes and drawing the conclusion that stubbing your toe caused the lightning. Isn't IdeaScale just a web presence for submitting ideas to Line 6? If we have Expectations that current products are going to be expanded upon because of the existence of IdeaScale then we are making up stuff. Also there have been quite a few Line 6 employees in this thread and across this forum that share quite about about things to come. They have restrictions about how much detail they can share but that is reasonable right? On what basis do you call B.S. on the pipeline? Do you know something? If so, please share. BTW, your tone guide was a huge help to me when I got started. Excellent work!
  8. Is that calibration part of the update that Line 6 is keeping from us?
  9. ....But that is the whole jist of this thread....not enough updates!!!! There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza!.......
  10. Hey Buddy, I've got news for you. Someone else has said all of this on 20 different threads on 20 different forums long before both you and me and that someone else. Go back and read the old Line 6 forum. The rule of 20's applied there too! We are all havin' fun taking turns being the smartest mofo in the forum!
  11. That's not the other side of the equation, that's the same equation. We are in agreement totally. Why would anyone purchase something that did not satisfy their need? Who purchases a Korean made Squire Stratocaster and then gets pissed off that it ain't a USA Gibson Gold Top Les Paul? I purchased my HD knowing exactly what it was capable of doing. After playing with it for over 2 years, I have found features that I would love it to have. I can get mad and complain that Line 6 let me down, I can purchase something to add to my set up to get what I want (that's what I did. Got an Eventide H9 Max) or I can scrap the whole thing and try something new OR, I can be upset and complain here. I realize that for the cost of my HD and my new Eventide, I could have purchased something else for the same amount of money. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. It's a personal choice. For me, I like what the HD has to offer. I like the way it works with my 2 DT amps, L2M and Variax. The DSP issue was a bit of a bummer once I started bumping up against it. The Eventide takes care of all of that. The point here is exactly the one that you are calling the other side of the equation. If the HD is so suck butt, why purchase it to begin with? Why not get off the wallet and drop $2K and get a unit that is closer to what one wants? The HD is a great unit evidenced by all of us who purchased it in the first place. Honestly, who purchased the HD while saying to themselves, "this unit is a bare bones $300 suck butt device and I may have to sink another $300 into it to make it usable! Oh,... and while I'm here, I gonna need a carrying case for it as well!" I've had my issues with the quality of line 6 products (anyone remember the DT transformer issue?) but calling foul simply because you don't like the HD offering and think that it is Line 6's responsibility to give us what we want when we want it seems a bit off to me. I mean did you purchase a Pod HD 500(X) to play music with or did you purchase some future promise of what you feel is the direction of the Pod to play music with? I bet you'll get a better tone out of the former than the latter.
  12. I want Line 6's product "A" that I purchased to sound and behave like someone else's product "B". To make that happen, Line 6 should give us product "B" features for free and in a timely manner. Why? Because this other company product does this, and Line 6 did it in the past on some product and because my IPhone got an update. With a few exceptions, this seems to be the argument. Unless I am missing something, that argument is....we'll...I don't even know what to call it. (Bug fixes notwithstanding) If this unit is that disappointing to you for whatever reason, dump it and get product "B" and be done with it. No matter what unit you settle on, it's going to have a bunch of stuff that it does extremely well and then some stuff that it sucks at. Ave FX II is awesome! It's going to cost you $2k without a foot controller. Well, since the $400 HD is falling so short of the mark for some, you need to get off of your wallet and make it happen and save youself the agrivation. I mean if you really dig this woman, for example, who just isn't giving you any rhythm, don't waste you time asking why and providing a list of really well thought out reasons as to why she should be diggin' your stinkin' drawers. Just go find one that is into you! There is plenty to choose from! (Not my best analogy but it was the one that came to mind.) I promise you this, being out of $400 and having a great sounding unit with a long wish list of changes you would like to see implemented is way better than being out of $2K+ and having a great sounding unit and a long wish list of changes you'd like to see implemented. Either way you end up starring past the great unit sitting in front of you focusing only on the laundry list of issues you have with it. Mulling over the list time and time again ready to add a new item if the unit so much as looks different in filtered light than it did in full sun. That is time better spent plugging in the unit and rocking what it does well and it does a lot really well. No disrespect meant to those who really feel left out in the cold by Line 6. Just throwing in my "Happy with the HD" 2 cents. Go play guitar. Always make me feel better!
  13. Discontinued? NOOOOO! Not possible. Remember.... 'THIS GUITAR BREAKS ALL THE RULES" "No other instrument in the world will spark your creativity like a James Tyler® Variax® guitar" "CREATE ANY GUITAR YOU CAN IMAGINE" "LEGENDARY CRAFTSMANSHIP" "THE ELECTRIC GUITAR, EVOLVED." These are mighty big statements for Line 6 to just throw up their hands and say, "Oops! Changed our minds. No more Variax." You can't call it The Electric Guitar, Evolved if you plan to discontinue it. That would be Devolved and clearly that is not what the literature says!
  14. I'm telling ya a tips and tricks video series would be so cool! I like playing with my gear but because some of us have decided to invest in a more comprehensive rig set up, it starts to feel like my golf game. Every now and then I connect with the ball but can't tell you how I did it nor am I guaranteed to be able to reproduce the same result! It shouldn't have to be that way.
  15. L6 configuration is HD-->DT25-->DT50-->L2M. Not sure about the power amp stuff. So far, I have been all over the map in playing with the set up. I like using amp A and amp B for the DT'S. It seems I have more control of the DT'S this way. As for any of the other available configurations, it's like freezing around in a dark room. Line 6 did promise us a series of videos that would shed some light on this beast but they gave up after on 3 or so. As I learn more, I will share.
  16. Cool Variax... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgZN8nD6Frw
  17. I got so excited about how to do a screen shot and how to post it on here, I forgot to answer your questions You don't have to have a second expression pedal but it sure helps. I do like the combination of the DT25 and the DT50. 2 DT50's would definitely be louder but I'm not so sure I would call that better. The 50 is good at loud and clean and the 25 is good at loud and dirty without having to sop up blood from everyones ears. The 25 is plenty loud enough and the 50 is there to add to my overall volume if needed without add more distortion. So far so good! As far a a second L-Series speaker instead of a DT?…. I've never been sold on the Idea of using a L- Series speaker as an amp for my electric guitar. I don't like the way they sound. The interaction between the pickups and the speaker is different with the L's and I have never been a fan. The full models sound way to processed to me through the L's. I only use "Pre" models through the my DTs and they just sound more organic to me. The DT's respond the way a an amp is supposed to. They're dynamic. I can have a tube screamer cranked way up and use a light touch and you would think i was playing a totally clean patch until I dug in and made it scream. I can't do that with the L. They don't respond that way for me. I use mine strictly for acoustic guitar tones which it handles pretty well. Yes! Get a Variax! Sean Halley hooked me up with the Suhr pickup swap idea. That took the JTV over the top for me. Though I recently got this Strat and the pickups in this thing sound amazing! But it can't play acoustic guitar in drop D! Cheers
  18. This is the setup. Amp # 1 is the DT 25 Amp #2 is the DT 50 Amp # 3 is the L2M The DT50 (Amp # 2) switches to channel B for some reason. Have not figured out yet why that is just yet. Let me know if you have any other questions
  19. How do you put a pic on this thing? Ive got a screen shot of HD Edit that would explain everything.
  20. Next you are going to have me patting my head and rubbing my stomach at the same time while reciting the alphabet backwards. That definitely can work. And you are right, it's not ideal. I hope you can detect the tongue in my cheek! You are always helpful on this forum! There has to be a simple approach that I am not seeing. I can do it with one DT and an L but the second DT throws the equation into a tail spin. Help us out line 6 with a more detailed "connectivity series for the Dream Rig!" Thanx Colonel!
  21. I can't find 2 DT amps and 1 L-Series Dream Rig demo anywhere, any place! But I did find this: Not quite what I have. but I do have questions: Do you think both L-Series speakers are carrying the acoustic signal or just one? (he doesn't say anything about that) When he fades in the DT do you think that signals are feeding both L-Series speakers and the DT or just one L-Series and the DT? What output mode do you think he is using on the HD? Studio? Combo? He is using the L6 link for all speakers and DT. How is he able to do this if the recommendation is to use studio out for the L-Series and combo out for the DT? The Pod can't do that. Riddle me that Mr. Zap!
  22. Where have you seen a demo of it done? In person or video? If it was a video, could you share the link?
  23. I keep my pod on Studio Out for all my patches. I use "Pre" models and turn off the cab simulation. What am I missing out on by doing it this way? Not that I'm going to change, but it would be nice to get further knowed up about my gear. So since my output setting isn't an issue, are you still suggesting that I XLR out of the pod into the L2M instead of using it in the L6 Link chain? I've got 2 DT amps an L2M and a Variax…..There just HAS to be a way to make this happen!
