That was my point on a different thread. To which another poster tells me, "what are you complaining about? You already have the top of the line gear!" He is right! With this new offering, we do have the top of the line gear. I guess I got wrapped up into the discussion about "improving" the HD's and "enhancing" new firmware updates, and "adding" new amp models. So much so that I was certain the NAMM 2015 would surely see new improvement, enhancements and additions to the Variax. Not this Pacifica rebranded. With all that said, Line 6 and Yamah will be around for a while and I'm sure there will be a much "greater later" for the Variax and for the Dream Rig users as a whole. Funny though, was there any mention of the "Dream Rig" at NAMM this year? You can barely find it on the line 6 website where it used to be front and center. I get it, new products to push=new front and center.

Not feeling this at all! Can't wait to actually play one. Hopefully it doesn't feel or play anything like a Yamaha Pacifica cheapo.

Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh Booooooy!

That makes sense! If it feels good in your hands, get it play it love it! Same goes for the person who only likes pre 1965 whatevers. More power to ya. But you ain't special because of it. Nor is that pre 1965 Fender a magical conduit to Leo Fenders inner most whatever! Sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes the "gotta have pre 1965 whatever" crowd can come across as a bit fanatical and dare I say condescending to those who dig pre '91 Jacksons for example. Play whatever works! As for the neon pink skull guitar with the pointy headstock….Whatchu Talkin' 'Bout Willis? That would be perfect for a country TV show! How funny would it be for you to show up with something like that and just throw down the most amazing country chops anyone has ever heard? The chops have to be AMAZING though, if you suck, it won't work. :P

Anyone using DT's MIDI Out + Effects loop to control stompboxes?
Tboneous replied to RPascarella's topic in DT50 / DT25
I have an Eventide H9. I am running it through the HD loop. What's the advantage/disadvantage of the HD loop compared to the DT loop? -
Funny...People who wax poetic about their 1964 gold top StratoPauliphone kind of get on my nerves! I play a slightly harder side of blues and Funkadelic style funk. It is not possible for me to care any less about having old gear! I want the newest and best gear primarily because with new gear come new sonic possibilities. Whether the newest and the best gear is coming from Line 6 or not is definitely debatable to many. But for me, I am diggin' what I'm gettin' so far! I love metal guitar. But I like Robben Ford, Tuck Andres, Scott Henderson, Matt Schofield and Jeff Beck as well. Metal is where the money is for Line 6. God bless em'! Make as much as you can. Then take a little of that well earned dough and sprinkle some of that warm bluesy sauce into the mix every now and then.

Curious, what amp are you using with your HD? I have a couple of DT's and an L2M. My cleans are pretty pristine through any one of them individually and especially collectively. When I use my HD with my Two Rock, the cleans are not so pristine. And I totally agree with whoever mentioned that it is us blues and I am adding funk players that get no love. Why does metal music suck up all the oxygen in the room? Where's my Robben Ford pack?

Wolf!!! Thank you! Best answer yet! Clear as a bell now. Before I got your input, I discovered a workaround. The 4 presets in Bank 1 on the HD triggered the 1st 4 programs on the H9 respectively. The 4 presets in Bank 2 on the HD triggered programs 5 through 8 on the H9. HD bank 3 presets = H9 programs 9 through 12. And so on. So, I just rearranged the presets on the H9 so the desired program loaded when I went to a preset on the HD. Bada-bing! My rig sounds soooo amazing with the H9! I highly recommend it! Thanks again to all that helped me on this!

Not sure I understand. 00 is the 1st patch? Is this why when I assign a MIDI program change to be #3, the H9 goes to program #4? The computation n-1? I'm guessing that this means that if I want the H9 to go to program #3, I need to know the "00" factor and set the MIDI program change instruction on the HD to #2. Am I close? What do you mean by "n-1" If I am straight about all of that, then there is still one more question. (actually 2 more questions, but I'll figure out my 8 year olds toilet issues on a different forum!) When ever I scroll up or down through the different banks and select a preset from the desired bank, the H9 changes program. Where is the MIDI instruction that is doing this? I want to be able to scroll and select an HD preset without a change on the H9. Thanx so much for the help! The H9 is sounding fantastic with my rig. If I can get past this tiny bump in the road, I'll be good to go!

Ok! I'm close. This is my MIDI FS program info: I am using FS6 MIDI CH: Base (What does that mean and how does this effect my situation?) MIDI Message:Prog Change Prog #:003 This is what is happening... I am in bank 9 Bank 9 has 4 presets (9A, 9B, 9C, 9D) 9A=FS5, 9B=FS6 etc…. *When I scroll to Bank 9 and access preset 9B by pressing FS6, my Eventide H9 switches to Program #34 (Where is the MIDI instruction that is triggering this unwanted program change?) **When I press FS6 again, the H9 goes to program #4 even though the MIDI instruction is to go to program #3 No matter what MIDI instruction I set on the HD, the H9 chooses 1 program greater that the instruction. If the instruction is to go to program 3, the H9 will go to program 4, If the instruction is go to 34, the H9 will go to program 35. Questions... *How do I fix this so that I can scroll to my preset on the HD without triggering a program change on the H9? **I want the Eventide to go to program #3 and not program #4. How do I fix that? And while you guys are taking this valuable time to fix my guitar rig, any tips on how I can get my 8 year old to flush the friggen toilet after he blows it up! My GOD! The stuff that comes out of that boy!!!!!!

Fog clearing a bit. Thanx! I'll commence to fiddling with this and see what happens. One more question pre-fiddle...do I need 2 MIDI cables or is 1 enough?
-
Thanx! I'm ignorant of MIDI all together. So forgive me if my questions are elementary. When you assign MIDI to the foot switches, it is the foot switch you are assigning and not the patch. Is that correct? What is confusing me is this... If you assign an Eventide H9 preset change to a foot switch on the HD, when I call up bank 1 patch A (for example) on the HD, the H9 will follow whatever MIDI instruction assigned to that foot switch. But if I want to go to bank 2 patch A (which is the same foot switch as bank 1 patch A), the H9 will follow the MIDI instructions for that foot switch. The problem is this is a totally different patch and I want a completely different thing from the H9. But I can't make that change because that one foot switch only follows 1 MIDI command. Is that correct thinking? The HD can have 16 different presets for that one foot switch. I might want 16 different presets from the H9 for each of them. But switch 1 only allows the H9 to do one thing. Right? So confused….

More fiddling? Oh man! I just wanna rock out! Oh well, let me go get my fiddling gloves!
-
Yep. But how are you changing presets? I don't want to repost my question so take a look at it and if you have some tips for me, I sure would appreciate it.
-
Ive got a question to add to this soup. I have an Eventide H9 in my FX loop and I want to control it via MIDI. It seems at this point the only thing I can do is scroll up 4 presets on the Eventide. What I would like to do is when I click on preset 1A on the HD (for example) the Eventide will go to its preset number 23. And when I go to this other HD preset, it will be paired with some other Eventide preset of my choosing. Instead what is happening is I call up 1A on the HD the Eventide goes to its preset 1. When I go to HD preset 2, the Eventide goes to its preset 2 and so on up to 4 Eventide presets. When I change banks on the HD and go to 2A, the Eventide goes back to its preset #1 and repeats the tandem patch change. Is it possible to get out of this trap?

Slash-type Marshall sound.
Tboneous replied to tormod1's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
True to a certain point. Though if you are looking for something as specific as a Slash tone, you can at least get a bundle to start wit if you are not comfortable with starting from scratch which I agree is the best way ro go. -
Yes you can save your variax settings to a foot switch on the Pod. Go to the mixer page on HD edit select your VDI input to JTV and then in the drop down window that says "Don't force" pick the model you want your JTV go to. Set up your patch and hit save. Done! Check these out: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/dream-rig/ Have Fun!

how to set up dual amps L link to DT25?
Tboneous replied to BigBob-Irwin's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I feel you on that Bro! I've done a few sprints in my day! It keeps the marriage fresh! Me? Brave? HA! I'm a frikkin Super Hero….on the internets! At home?…I have really good Headphones! -
Fair enough. Don't want to make the US guitars out to be something they are not! Never played one so I will take your word that they are the bomb dizzle! For $4K, they better be! Don't agree that having different pickups doesn't make sense. I think in this case, it would make the most sense. But again, I speak not as a business person but as a guitar geek!

NAMM stands for National Association of MY Musicstuffs! Right? Ok…You make a good point! The "MM" of NAMM is Music Merchants! I'm sure the merchants were licking their chops knowing that they will have a guitar that the lion share of their customer bass will gobble up post haste. NAMM is not intended for looky-loo guitar geek consumers like me! Though…"If I Were King Of The Forrrrrrreeeeessssstt!" I have unrealistic expectations! What can I say? I wanted a guitar with Rocket Boosters and an espresso dispenser! Didn't you!?
-
You do make a good point! Line 6 wants to get as much of the guitar playing market as possible and this is probably a good move for them. NAMM is a very exciting time. We all wait eagerly to see the new goodies. To have a certain amount of pomp and circumstance surround an entry level guitar is just…meh! But I get it! Line 6 has a history of producing beginners/bedroom player kind of low budget not very well made gear. When they introduced the DT series amps and the new Pod HD line along with the partnership with boutique guitar builder James Tyler, they sent a signal that they are going to make a strong move to shake off this low budget perception and cater to the Pros with high quality gear. I mean, so far so good. I love my Dream Rig (past issues notwithstanding). Amplifi sort of took them back to the bedroom. Now this budget guitar. Not sure what Firehawk is. Sounds like great stuff to rock out with you headphones but not really intended for the stage. (I'm being very general here) I fear that this is the direction that is most important to Line 6 and us Pro players…well…No Soup For You! Unnecessary fear maybe, but it crosses my mind now and then. Who goes to NAMM to check out budget stuff? I want to see the best of the best! So you are right! What's the gripe? The gripe is I am not a beginner guitarist and I wanted something a bit more "WOW" from Line 6. Basically, Line 6 didn't please ME! Can you believe that Sugar Honey Ice T? I take my rig to gigs and people are blown away by my tone, blown away at how I effortlessly go from electric to acoustic and altered tunings. Then they are especially blown away that it is from Line 6! I love it and I want to keep blowing them away! But no one is going to be blown away by me showing up with no Pacifica! Nor am I going to pay $4000 for a Korean guitar that happens to be assembled in the US and painted Orange!

Me too! I try to support the local shop as much as I can. Strings, picks, caring cases and the occasional sale item. It gets hard when you want to purchase big ticket items from them cause they just can't compete with the online market. No Taxes, no shipping, online discount codes. It's tough. Sweetwater is…well…Sweet!

You and me can be friends! I hear ya with the whole paying for the name. People also pay ridiculous amounts of money for old guitars as well. Your 20 year old Strat was built in the 90's so that doesn't count. But you get these guys tying themselves into a pretzel explaining why they just paid $$$$$ for a 1969 Strat. I mean really! It's a cool guitar and everything but I got a Mexican Strat that plays circles around it and it cost me $400! Name recognition and old recognition commands a price because the consumer has drank the cool aid a bit on this one. Then you got the Fender custom shop distressing their NEW guitars to look old and charging you $$$$$! That's like buying brand new pair of over priced designer jeans with factory holes in the knees! I don't care about the name on the headstock nor do I care what country the guitar was made. Just gimme a guitar that feels good in these hands with a straight neck and good pickups and I'm good to go! And guess what? I have found a bunch of guitars that knock out my 3 requirements for well under $4000 and they ain't Orange!
-
Absolutely!!! Just went to a Guitar expo in my neck of the woods and I played some of the most beautiful $3K-$4K and one $8K guitars. Spoke to the luthier. Got his take on why he made his guitar the way he did. He had ideas for a guitar for me based on how I played. How I held it. The whole 9 yards. You ain't getting that kind of love from Gibson or Fender. Not saying that Fender or Gibson don't make fine instruments in the same price range but you better bet that I expect anything that is going to cost me $4K better not share a single component with it's Korean cousin. Else, I'll just purchase the Squire or the Epiphone or the Korean JTV and be done with it. For a $4K JTV, a brutha can't even get exclusive model packs? An extra knob or button? How about strap locks and an anvil case? Something other than getting to choose an Orange guitar

$4000 for a guitar that's assembled in the US as opposed to assembled in Korea is far more than amusing! It's actually a bit insulting. "But…but, Tboneous…..The US model isn't assembled UNTIL you order it! That makes it CUSTOM!…And…and, you can get one in orange!" are you kidding me?
