  1. How is this "Global EQ" accessed? Is it a new screen on the Pod itself? I am also learning that you can not use the new global EQ feature with a Pod and a DT Via L6 link. If that is true, why?
  2. Not sure the intention is to force you to purchase a second DT. But if you can swing it.....you won't be disappointed,

Why are Gibsons so darn expensive when this is what they're offering?
  4. oh....I am not attempting to be obtuse or contrary but I have to ask, you need a graph and numbers to determine what amp is clean and which one is dirty? A graph and numbers to pick an amp suitable for the occasion? It seems like these graphs and numbers would be helpful to a deaf person who is dialing in a great tone, but if you have working ears....I don't get it. But hey, if it works for you, get on down! I know that music can be boiled down to math and frequencies and frequency responses and Impulse responses (I just learned about that one!) but to me, music is about touch, about emotion, it's intangible nostalgia. You close your eyes crank it up and when it's good you start to feel like you are floating. You FEEL good tone, you don't graph it. Rather I should say I feel good tone, and I won't be graphing it at this point. But I am always willing to get my learn on about ways others ar able to pimp their tone.
  5. Great work! It seems like more an academic exercise than anything else. I mean how do these numbers and graphs help someone get a good tone from their rig? I played a $4000 Ibanez Evo today. It sounded Horrible! I don't know how Vai does it with that thing! I definitely didn't need a graph and a bunch of numbers to determine that the EVO is not for me. So far, my ears and my emotions tell me everything I ever need to know about my gear and my tone. Can you help me understand why these numbers and graphs are important and how they are helpful? How do you use his info to help you with your tone?
  6. Aside from the missing models, how do they sound?
  7. Not so difficult. But different.
  8. Is this a Line 6 produced ad? Great ad. Now that you got your potential customers interst and soon their money. Produce some tips and tricks vids to help us all maximize our purchases. I bet Line 6 would cut down on the cries from the "We want more updates" crowd if they did a video series about how to maximize the pod. I know I am not using my set up anywhere near it full potential. Oh and one other thing. Not everyone plays metal. Throw the blues/classic rock dudes a bone every now and then. Potential video titles.... "Fear of a Black Face Double" "Don't Tread on my Plate" "The Flexi Plexi" "Red Compressor Professor" "The Parametric EQ and You! 7 way to kill harsh Frequencies" Come on Line 6! Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

It's not the playability that is an issue for me. I don't like the way they sound. The ones I've played sounded very thin to me and without character. They had tapped pickups that sounded horrible to me. Maybe if I played one with P90's the guitar would have some character.nto me they seem like a very expensive generic guitar. Blasphamy! I know...

You on to something with the "Tboneous" model. That is promising! I can see the large scale appeal for such an awesome machine! But the "Brazzy" brand? That's just crazy talk!

I know PRS has a very loyal following. I have never liked them. At least I have yet to play one that I like. So the idea of a PRS Variax doesn't really do much for me.
  13. Haven't tried that yet. I'll check that out on Sunday.

....the great and powerful Oz envisions a new Variax standard in your future GAS Man! Rockin' deal my friend!
  15. Thanx silverhead! At this moment, I have DT25>L2M (the DT50 is in the shop. AGAIN!) my Pod outputs is set to studio direct. I set my L2M to acoustic. I hit save on the HD. I power down everything. I power up everything in the proper order. I pull up the "saved" patch. The L2M does not switch to acoustic. What gives?
  16. Exactly! I can't imagine a band that goes from ABBA to Anthrax in a single set. 1 or 2 amps is all I ever need in a set.
  17. You can't change the speaker mode from the HD with that setup can you? I'll try going direct to the L2M. But if it works going directly to the L2M bypassing the DT but doesn't work when the DT is in the mix, then this is No Bueno! The whole point is to have the acoustics go through the L2M with the proper L2M setting. Since I am running 2 DT's and the L2M, is there an order that is optimal? "DT>L2M>DT" or "DT>DT>L2M" or.....
  18. I love this topic. Here is my 2 cents. First thing first, listen to "amsdenj". Start simple. Narrow the number of amp models you use to 2 or 3 max. I mean really, before you got the pod setup you only used 1 amp and did fine. Just because you can grab this model and pair it with this speaker and use this mic doesn't mean that you have to. And it doesn't mean it's the smart thing to do. Then for those still struggling to blend with the band do these and your troubles will be over.... 1. Learn how to use your Parametric EQ. Roll up the gain to about 80%. Roll up the "Q" to about 80% and sweep the frequency until you get those harsh frequencies. Once you got them narrowed down, roll off the gain. You'll have a much more present tone. Use the amp eq to fine tune. 2. Do this while the band is playing! Boring for the band but great for the overall tone and sound of the band. Have the band play a passage over and over again while you dial in your tone. That is the only way you are going to get your tone to blend well with the band. Use the basic amp model with no fx. Once you got your tone sitting well in the mix, then you can start adding fx. I think of it this way. Ever been in the studio? It takes forever to mic everything just right doesn't it? "Now hit the kick drum for 20 min!" "Ok, Good! Now hit the first Tom for another 20 min!" The amount of time and detail spent to get everything sounding just right is part of the reason why recording your music gets expensive. Why short change yourself with your live band? Give yourself the time and space to dial in your sound with the band, playing. Doing it in your bedroom or based on what you hear on your DAW is a recipie for frustration. You not only have to learn the tune, you also have to learn the tone!
  19. That just breaks my heart to hear B! I am in the same boat. My DT50 sounds fantastic! Reliability is a real issue. We are not alone. There are many who have the same reliability issue. And yet Digital Igloo and others who chime in on many issues on this forum are silent on this one. I don't mean to jump on DI, his was the first name that came to me. He/She has always been very helpful. But really Line 6, you have no light to shed on the few of us who have the same complaint about the reliability of our equipment? Our numbers may be small in comparison to the any who experience no issues with their amps. But the fact that those who are struggling are struggling with the exact same issues means that there is a there there. A "there" that deserves at least some lip service! Why are there errant "Pops". Why does the amp die for so many? Why the weird digital noise? We are not making this stuff up. We are not haters. We love our gear save for this one issue....Reliability. And yet the good folks at Line 6 have absolutely NO insight share, no experience to share? I mean I have actually spoken to Line 6 tech employees who have said to me..."Pops? I've never heard of that happening. That's unusual." Are you serious?!?! My DT50 is in the shop again after 2 years of ownership. My DT25 has digital fizz that I can't explain but I can't send it in just yet cause I have gigs to do. When my DT50 comes back, I'll send my DT25 in. I also had to send in my L2M because of a known rattle. I am a fan 'cause when it is firing on all cylinders, it sounds amazing. Just don't tell us B.S. Line 6 HAS to have an idea why some of us are experiencing what we are experiencing. To tell us ..."I don't know why that's happening to your amp. Never heard of that issue. Send it in" is a bit insulting. And yet I still remain a fan.
  20. I would give "props" to that dude if he could rid that thing with a suicide clutch! That would take some serious commitment. And I got respect for that level of commitment!
  21. ...and they're telling you its a piece of crap while they're broke down on the side of the road with no money for AAA because they just spent $10K in Fairings and Ape Hangers!
  22. I took my DT50 to the local repair guru to finally get an answer to my "windy" low frequency noise that comes out of my amp when I play certain notes on my guitar. Strangest of all is the noise started right after it was returned to me from Line 6 who fixed the dying amp issue I had. And of course, now it's out of warrantee. Go figure! Anyway, I am not much for advertising on anything that I purchase, so I removed the Line 6 logo from the front of the amp. Also its fun to tell other gear nerds who compliment my set/tone that it is a Line 6 amp. The brief hesitation and the contorted look on their face is priceless! So I march my amp through the door and there is a gear nerd who works in the shop see the amp and says "Nice Bogner!" to which I replied "Best power amp on the planet!" We exchanged more accolades about Bogner and other Bogner type amps. We connected! Clearly in his mind I was "Cool" because...well, you know...I play a Bogner! The tech want to know the issue and I ask him to get a guitar so he can hear first hand what I hear. While he is fetching a Les Paul, I fire up the DT, switch it to II (cause that is where the "windy" frequency is most pronounced) The tech comes back and fires it up. "That's Bogner all right! Listen to that bite!" "Great amp!" I'm crying with laughter inside! As the amp warms up, now the noise starts to kick in. The tech looks behind the amp and you can start to see the confusion on his face. I have black tape over the Line 6 logo on the back of the amp. He is looking at all theses connections and stuff not usually found on Bogner amps. I'm sure he sees the "Power amp by Bogner" The two different celestians. His little furrowed brow looks up at me and he asks. "This is a Bogner?" I replied "It's a Line 6 amp the power amp was designed by Bogner. Best power amp on the planet!" This dude did a 180 that would make a politician jealous! He went from "Now THAT'S a Bogner!" to "....well, you know, It felt like something was missing!" and "...I thought that maybe it was bad tubes that made it sound thin. But its a Line 6 so......" In that moment, I was no longer "Cool". I was a fool who has a Line 6 amp. With all the cheap Chinese components and digital this and crappy that. He tells me..."These amps are so cheap that the fix may be more than the cost of the amp. How much did you pay for it? $300, $400? The fix may cost $200! All I could think about in that moment was, "thank God you are not the one who is going to fix my amp!" I told the gear nerd that once I got the estimate of repair, I would make a decision whether to cross that bridge or not. Moral of the story....? Your ears don't lie! You like what you like! But preconceived thought processes can tell some whoppers!! This gear nerd was totally "in" when it was a Bogner and then totally "out" when it became Line 6 and couldn't bring himself to be open to possibility that this was a great sounding amp from Line 6! Ever been inside a Hyundai Genesis? It rivals a Mercedes all day long in fit and finish. But people would rather go broke just to say that they drive a Mercedes even thought the Hyundai is just as nice and in some cases nicer and has a warrantee that lasts for the life of the car, the life of you, the life of your kids and grandkids! Everyone Hates line 6! Except us! The proud Genesis people! I am in good company!
  23. Very well done! Line 6 promised series videos that never really became a series. Thanx for taking the time to do this. I would love to see the same type of video series for the complete dream rig. Imagine a video series that went into detail on the various guitar models, how to adjust those perameters and pair that Variax model with a properly tuned patch on the Pod HD AND how best to set up your DT topology and class so that it all works in concert to achieve a classic rock tone, for example, that you can take and use on a gig! With all that is available on the internets about how to get tones on your Pod, there's virtually no videos that talk about using the Pod in a live setting let alone The Dream Rig.
  24. Alrighty then! Now we's gettin' somewhere! Gigging Guitarist Check! You have a Dream Rig. Check! No Hi Gain. Check! Simple patches = limited tweaking Check! Happy Camper! Check! The hypothesis is being fulfilled Obi Wan!
  25. There was no need to remove your post. It was very much welcomed and appreciated. It's good to hear from those who are having success with their gear. I'm just sorry that no one else who feels the Pod is lacking in one way or another; those that have been so very vocal about how "off" the Pod is and how "on" a Kemper is in this case, are not answering my questions. I understand. I mean, who the hell am I that anyone would need to answer to? I'm just another dumb @ss who doesn't realize that his Pod sucks! AND...This IS one hell of a long thread! People are probably just tired of the topic and want to move on. If those folks would answer my brief survey, I could find out if my hypothesis is true: They primarily gig with the Pod with Recording coming in second. If they are a giging guitarist..... They are not using a complete "Dream Rig" (No Variax, No DT or L) I can't tell if they are a 4CM, FX loop or Front of the amp kind of person. Very rarely direct through the PA. They are connecting to an amp that his known for it's gain stage (Marshall, Randall, 5150, etc) They ain't playin' no smooth jazz! Metal Baby! Hard Rock~N~Roll!!! Let me put it to you this way, No Mr. Bojangles covers! Know what I'm sayin'? Lastly, they are attempting to sound like someone else. ("..been playing on my Schecter Demon 7, sounds exactly as meshuggah." custom tone 2012) Basically the order of the day for most of these unhappy Pod campers is HI GAIN! "The purpose of this guide is to provide the details Line 6 didn't provide, mostly geared towards getting high gain tones with the Pod HD 500" Pod HD Guide By MEAMBOBBO) I'm not making any judgments here and I am happy to be wrong as is often the case with me. But if my hypothesis is anywhere near the ball park, then saying stuff like: "Had enough of struggling to get what I need from the HD500" "Mostly...I'm very tired of the limitations of the HD500" "What's the point in having great tones if it takes you forever to tweak them?" "The Kemper is better" ...is far too global a statement. Maybe it's you who is struggling to get what you need. Maybe it's you who finds himself limited. Maybe it's you who can't tweak in a timely manner. Maybe none of that is a global issue with the Pod but an issue of what you are using, how you are using it and what goal do you have? Not saying that is the case. I'm just asking the question. With my Variax, my DT50, DT25 and L2m, I don't have any problem quickly pulling up a tone that sounds killer. I sometimes pull up a blank patch and build a preset while we are rehearsing and write anew song on the spot based on some weird Fx that I put in the chain. I mean for me it's that easy. But I'm not a Hi Gain guy and my goal is to sound only like me. I know I rambled here for a while. I hope this makes sense.
