I know this topic has been posted ad infinitum for years though I've never really seen it answered in a way that was laid out like a flowchart. I have read tons of forum posts for years from both camps. "The HD500X will sound exactly the amp once you get the settings correct" or "there is no correct use yours ears as a guide" and then "the DT sounds much better and no matter what I do the HD500X does not sound like the amp." I've tried so many variations of things to try and get the sounds identical, but it's a no go. I'm wondering if there is a way I can ab the DT50 alone with the HD500X line 6 link connected. Channel A set to line HD500x and channel B amp alone. This way I can ab them in a split second through the same setup with out having to have 2 DT heads and cabinets. When I use the line 6 link now and set a no amp patch to channel B it does not sound like the amp, but more like the HD500x. I did the mute channel B in the mixer thing and played around with infinite variations. I know that it has been mentioned before that if you want to use channel B "you're just not getting the DT-POD interaction". I just want to AB them in a split second so I can tweak them to sound the same. If too much time elapses between using the line 6 link and direct the moment is gone. Can someone provide exact settings as far as what the actual amp topologies from the DT correspond with the HD500x. I don't just mean IV is a Treadplate or Rectifier. I mean specifics like to get the identical sound from the HD500x line 6 link to the DT you need to do this choose this model with this cabinet emulation and this mic setting, change these 3 things in the global settings, change this in the mixer section etc and so on and so on. What I've seen so far is people mentioning pre amp models vs full models etc regular mode vs lvm etc, but nothing is clear cut. Answers are all over the place. Videos are few and far between . I understand the difference in an amp when pushing the power section vs pushing the pre amp, but the there is something severely missing in the equation.I saw a video awhile back where the poster writes it's identical, but I could easily hear the compression difference even through youtube on a laptop. I can't understand why after all these years there has not been a single concise clear do this do that thing. I build tube amps and I can tell you that if I change a resistor or capacitor value it will sound exactly like this or that every single time. It might be a lot to ask, but I'm sure it would be appreciated by many including myself.

Got my HD500x a week-ish ago and picked up a DT50 2x12 last night. Now I'm trying to get everything setup. I've been going through the manuals but MAN are they lengthy and layed out a bit strangely. I'm currently doing the "4 cable method" but it doesn't seem to be using the amp at all. I can turn all the knobs on the amp, nothing changes. I also get no sound unless I load an amp sim in the HD500x. I'd really like to use the amp's (surprisingly good) tones and the pedal more for just the effects until I get the superspecialwhizbang cable to properly connect the pedal to the amp. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? Is there a tutorial video or two for all this? This is actually quite a bit more complicated than I expected. lol Super happy with the setup now, though. Sounds great. Just gotta get it all dialed in. Thanks for any help!

I submitted this request here: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/DT-amp-compatibility-for-Helix/726817-23508?submitted=1 Please go vote for it. Let Line 6 know how important this is. Thanks!!

Hi, I have got problem to set up channel B. I would like to have two independent channels A and B, which I can switch between themselves. I can set up only chanel A on the HD, and when I switch to chanel B, what kind of amp is it? When I plug my guitar only to the DT, it sound well! But when HD is connected, the channel B sound different, badly... Thanx so much for answer!

I had a hard time with acoustic from the DT but I came up with a solution that seems to work well. This patch works amazing with my DT25 head, 2X12 sealed cab with Celestion V30s and it should work fine with any other DT setup. It may not be perfect but it works with all 5 acoustic models. This setup provides the clean, unprocessed guitar signal from the Variax straight to the DT power section without ANY amp sims... I put a flip top in channel A, centered the mixers and then mute channel A. You can use any amp model in channel A, it is just a placeholder. I use it for low DSP. We are not running through the flip top at all. We are only using it to "lock" the DT from switching to the amp in channel B and to control the physical topology. By placing no amp in channel B and muting channel A in the POD we effectively send the clean "unamped" acoustic guitar signal straight to the DT power section through channel B! I set the topology to III in HDEdit and it just gets that nice sort of resonance you would expect from an acoustic. We also have to change the input to Variax-Same to ensure that our signal is passed to channel B. You may have to turn up the mixer levels for volume matching and add an EQ for tone shaping. I use a reverb in the chain too. I also use this setup for synth tones through the DT. Place all your synth and FX blocks in the B path or the post mixer and you will get the pure synth without the amp coloring just like with a FRFR solution. Here is a link to a set list with a couple of variations of this concept... try it out and give me some feedback if you like the idea or not... http://share.cx.com/yGRXwV

While I really think this is a let down for most of us it probably is a big move up for a lot of beginning musicians and hobbyists. The price point is kept low by pushing a lot of the interface and system management off board to the user's own iGear. They also kept DSP needs low by using older modeling and saved more by not integrating a host of in/out options, no D/A or A/D conversions, etc. Trouble is that while this incarnation is disappointing, the concept has a lot of potential and I would not be surprised to see a professional version in the future. Same power section and speaker/cab options but with HD modeling as per the DT, the acoustic resonance DSP from the L2/3 series, M Series effects, professional in/out (XLR, 1/4, L6 link, VDI) and FX Loop. Manage all your patches and set lists from your iGear (or Droid hopefully) and everything cloud sourced. So where the DT was the perfect tube match for the POD HD, AMPLIFI HD would be the perfect stereo FR/FR match in a portable combo size package. If you need your pedals, bring your POD or floorboard with you too. L6 link could still allow you to expand by adding an L2/3 or sending a perfect feed to the Dream Stage. No reason the same cloud sourcing couldn't tone match for HD models too. Then you seriously could just grab your JTV and this one box, plug right in and be good to go. Great solution for solo gigs with backing tracks. Of course everything comes at a price. My guess is AMPLIFI HD150 comes in around $1200 and a $100 less for the AMPLIFI HD75. Anyone interested? :)

hello everybody. does a "POD XT to L6 link" exist to make the Red Bean act as an HD500 to control DT series amps? is correct to say that, when linked with xlr to DT amps, the POD HD500 act only as a channel/stomp footswitch without any amp emulation? thanx
