Use workbench and play with your pickup positions. You should also use workbench while creating patches on the HD.

Where Is The Dream Rig...
Tboneous replied to Tboneous's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Doesn't look like Line6 is too interested in placing a link to a dream rig specific sub forum. Such a shame since there is clearly a desire from Dream Rig owners to have one. I guess I will share my Dream rig stuff here... When creating new patch, I am a huge fan of creating them while connected to workbench. Here is my process for alternate Strat style tones. 1. Figure out my tone goal.(clean, dirty, distorted) 2. Pick my amp 3. Make that amp sound good with he mag pickups first. (Very Important!) 4. Pick pick your single coil pickups 5. With pickups in place, cycle through the various body styles 6. Adjust angles and position of pickups 7. A/B the modeled pickups with the mags and make any changes necessary Don't forget that you can stack pickups for a thicker sound The goal is not to make the modeled strat sound like the mag strat but to have various starts where one is thicker or thinner or more scooped or more round, louder or softer In phase or out. It's up to you. Then I move to the DT. I find that cranking the amp a bit on the AC30 for example, and switching to triode really adds a nice growl. I also like to assign the drive to my tone knob. It's easier for me to control with my finger than my foot if I were to assign it to an expression pedal. You just gotta remember to roll the tone knob back if you are going to switch back to mags. Once I am satisfied with what I have, I assign it to a position on the HD. Now my Mags sound as good as the model and yet they are very different in tone. I would live to hear other strategies from other Dream Riggers on our own forum. But until that mystical magical day comes, post em here! -
wiggling the wire is so much easier for the same result. I'm just sayin'!

How do you set up a poll?
-
Yep! Also use the editing software! Much easier

I'll tell ya after I stop laughing at my man in the video who is FEELIN' that s@#t! That is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time! I'm sending it to everyone I know!!!! Ok... Ive taken a break from laughter! Yeah... use the Plexi Lead. You're going to have to do some eq stuff to dial in the middle and roll back some of the bass but it is definitely doable. No idea what pickup situation you got going on in that Epiphone! Just be realistic! You won't get that exact tone. As a matter of fact, another Marshal Plexi won't get that exact tone. Me playing that rig won't get that exact tone. That dude playing that same rig may have a hard time reproducing that exact tone tomorrow. What you want is a good tone that reflects some of the characteristics and nuance of of my funny faced mans tone. It's going to be slightly different. But because it is slightly different, doesn't mean its bad, its just different! Just promise me one thing....Play like my man in the video and post it here! Ok....back to LMFAO!

When you use your Pod Via the USB, it is your interface. An interface is anything that allows you to plug your, in this case, your guitar, into a computer. It takes your guitars analog signal and converts it to a series of "ones" and "zeros" that your computer can understand. in simple speak, an interface is kind of like an interpreter. Your guitar is speaking Tagalong and your computer only understands Farsi. The interface allows the two to speak. What comes out is the music that you played. The pod can be the interpreter. BUT it is limited. With an external interface, depending on which one you get, you have access to a mixer, effects that can be heard in your mix but not recorded. or heard in your mix and recorded. With an 8 input interface, you can record your band in one shot, then bounce that ripping guitar, bass, keys and flugelhorn jam onto a stereo pan, then erase the scratch drum track and have 8 inputs to have the drummer record the final drum mix. While you are monitoring the recording and are ready for vocals, you can put in reverb and delay in the lead voc mix, and flange into the backing voc tracks while recording none of it! it is all going to the individuals head phone mix. Why is this important? Some singers can't get into the flow of singing unless they can hear some flange and delay on their vocals in their headphones. As the engineer, you can give them what they want without mudding up your clean signal. All of that applies to guitar as well. Short answer, you get more from and external interface than you will get from the pod as your interface. Hopefully that makes sense.

But is it a pod bug or an HD bug?

R u using the edit software or the pod?
-
Yep, Silverhead is correct. My 2 cents are to find a different audio interface and plug your HD into that interface. That way you can use the hd edit to tweak your tone without issue. Having to tweak you tone via the Pod windows interrupts your workflow. Plus an external interface give you more control over your recording and monitoring.

Go to your local music store that sells one. Explain your sitch, and see if they will loan you their floor model. If you have a good relationship with your store, in the name of excellent customer service, they won't have a problem doing that.

Sure I believe you! That is the story of my life!

I have a dog and a pig! How do you post a photo on this thing?

Anyone Have Patches To Send For Hd500/dt25 Combo?
Tboneous replied to Lawless33's topic in DT50 / DT25
In customtone, take a look at Dolphinstreet or D-Street or Robert Renman. Also Jake Cloudchair did a great job dialing in amp tones for the Variax. I have not tried them with my other guitars but It may be a good start for you. Check out his video. -
...or I go blind.

So are you saying that by changing the value on the DT the problem went away? What happens when you zero out everything on the DT? Maybe there is a conflict between what is dialed in on the DT and what is dialed in on the HD. Since you were playing in church, maybe the hand of the almighty was making some necessary changes to your tone! Or maybe you need to "Wiggle Your Wire" just a bit as my man "Tone" has so selflessly suggested to me! Tone- how long can I have fun with wire wiggling before it becomes too much! ...cause I love it so!!!

There are professional wire wigglers out there. Maybe you should contract one of them.

Anyone Have Patches To Send For Hd500/dt25 Combo?
Tboneous replied to Lawless33's topic in DT50 / DT25
Finding others patches can be helpful but it can also be not so helpful. You can't know how the patchers were created. How were the patches monitored, were they in the garage with concrete floors and high ceilings or were they in their carpeted cozy van? What guitar were they using and the like. Personally, I have found my greatest success by picking a single amp model both pre and full. Removing all fx and making that amp sound good by first eq'ing the amp. Then finding a good cabinet, then mic. Then I add reverb. Both room and spring. Get a good full well rounded clean tone first. Then try for a dirty sound. Again, no fx. Once that is done, figure out your sound goal. Do you want a Leslie? Do you want a spacey delay? Good chorus? A house has to have a strong foundation before you add the bling. Same with your tone. Just because you have access to every option doesn't necessarily mean you need to use every option when constructing your tone. Also remember that some of your tone comes from how you play. What may sound good under one persons fingers, may sound like crap under yours. -

I can't believe that NO One has tweaky stuff happening with their hd DT combo. It is just me and mine! ....bummer.
-
Sometimes. I have other weird stuff that comes up every once in a while. I took some video of one such anomaly and I will attempt to upload it once I figure out how to get it off my phone! So, I've been wiggling my wire for a few days now. Fun as it may be, i'm not noticing anything on the Pod. And for the record, I am an above average wire wiggler!
