  1. Good post. Problem is, I already spent the money! The gear is hear! Yes… I may do something different in the future, but it doesn't address the now for many people! I am an optimist at heart. I believe that Line 6 is a company that has it's heart in the right place. When I contacted them, they were Johnny on the spot on the phone. They told me that if I was a bit out of warrantee range, not to worry, they would make it right. No… I didn't want to pay for shipping but I get it that they are a company that needs to make money and can't pay for everyones shipping at the drop of a hat. If they do they will go under and, as a wise woman once said…Ain't Nobody Got Time For That! I need them to stay functioning! So they can help me get my butt back on stage with a rig that works! PERIOD! Make it happen Line 6 PEOPLE! My ramblings are not about the company per se, but really are about the frustrations that I experience as a working musician. I need to be able to count on my gear to make a living.
  2. Fine words! Truth be in that narrative! But....I've played through all kinds of amps, tubes to solid state. Never has an amp been so intermittent! I actually had a line 6 dude try to explain away my amp issues by telling me "well you know, this is a tube amp and tube amps can be temperamental." That is a crock of sugar honey iced Tea! I repeat...Never have I ever owned an amp so intermittent! I don't believe that there is a fine line at all between an expectation that my brand new gear should work when I turn it on and reasonable performance. The two issues shouldn't be fine line close at all. There should be a grand valley between the two. Line 6 didn't advertise the dream rig components as something that would perform reasonably well. They said this is their flagship rig that is going to change the way we play guitar! That is a mighty fine assertion! I would opt for it to turn on and work! I stay hopeful that it will all jell soon. But for now, If I have an important gig to do, I don't bring it. How screwed up is that! That is not how it should be at all. It makes it very hard to stay positive. And I whole heatedly agree that we need to spend more time in the positive and not the negative. But when I take the stage and there are 500 people waiting to hear me do my thing and I got my swagger on and pick up the guitar listen for the drum cue and punch that first chord and nothing happens after it seemed to happen alright at sound check...my blood boils I loose my swagger and I am reduced to the schmuck that bought Line 6 gear. And I had far greater hopes than that when I decided to purchase a JTV HD and DT50
  3. Trusting our gear night after night! Amen! My situation is anicdotal And of course anecdote is not evidence but I have had nothing but stress when gigging with my Dream rig. Many times I hook it up all the lights come on but no sound. There are weird and unsolicited bumps, pops and hisses. I was at a gig ripping a killer blues solo and my amp just stopped working. I bypassed everything I could bypass, I wiggled every wire I could wiggle, rebooted everything that could be rebooted to no avail. Only to get home and have everything work fine. Now my amp rings/feedback when I hit a chord on a clean channel (maybe a tube issue) The Gurus on this forum all offer friendly helpful thoughts about my issue, All different and none of it gets me to the point where I can say "ah-ha Thanx! That fixed my problem"! Which I understand. They are giving advice on a forum about an amp they haven't seen, touched looked at or heard. Its all a Best guess and I appreciate it. None have been insulting and quite honestly people need to cowboy up! What are they supposed to do? Qualify every statement? Massage every oversensitive ego with glittering generalities on a forum about music gear?!? Ain't Nobody Got Time For That! It does beg the question: Why are some of us having so many problems with this gear? This is supposed to be pro gear and I am a pro player. I don't mind tweaking a tone to make it just right but we shouldn't have to hold our breaths every time we attempt to power up our rigs. I have a Two Rock amp. It works every time. Never an issue. Plug it in and go! Every single time! No pops, no bumps, no hissing, no rebooting, no tone interruptions. Plug it in, turn it on, play music, repeat. But the Two Rock is a one trick pony. Which is why the dream rig appealed to me. And when it works, it's sounds better than my much more expensive Two Rock in certain situations. The fact that I have to throw in the caveat "when it works" is disturbing and head explodingly frustrating! Now I have had to pay $100 to ship my flagship Line6 amp to the service department. I've owned my Two Rock for 5 years, haven't had to change a tube yet! To me, this is unacceptable! Maybe this is why I don't see any Dt50's in the gear rundown of some of the top players. Maybe it's a pipe dream rig! I'll know more when I get the amp back. Until then I continue to use my Two Rock. Sure it's a one trick pony tone wise but it's most impressive trick is that it turns on!
  4. Anyone experience a ringing with their DT 50? If I hit a sharp staccato chord, my amp is left ringing. here is no reverb on the amp or on my hd500. I once the ringing (almost feedback) starts, it does not go away even when I turn my guitar volume down. I can even turn down the master volume on the amp and the ringing/feedback volume reduces in sync with the turning of the volume control. when I turn the volume back up, the ringing/feedback grows louder. I change patches the ringing stops until I hit a sharp staccato chord and it starts all over again. thoughts?
  5. I think I figured out my part of my output issue. Loose L6 link cable. The connection at the Hd500 was not very tight. If the hd got bumped or that cable got wiggled in any way, it sent the amp into tail spin. The topologies would bounce around and finally everything just stops working. Which is why unplugging and replugging helped. It doesn't explain why when the hd was bypassed, the Dt50 still didn't work until I got it home. Maybe I needed to unplug the amp for a longer period of time for it to reset? Still exploring….
  6. L2t. A few people use that for acoustic. Bada-bing! you're in!
  7. I appreciate your words. Alas, since you don't use a DT, they're not very helpful to me on this particular issue. But I do want to protect my gear and a power conditioner might not be such a bad investment. The L6 person tried to tell me about the temperamental nature of tube amps as well. When I plugged my Two Rock into the same crappy power source, it worked just fine. In this situation, I am left wondering why out of the 4 tube amps that were plugged into the same crappy power source was the DT the only amp that wouldn't work; needed to be unplugged and replugged or moved to another power source? This seems a bit more than just a fickle tube amp being sensitive to power abnormalities. I'm waiting for line 6 to send me a some form that will allow me to ship my amp to be serviced. I was hoping I had a kindred soul out there who had the same experience who could lend me some advice. Apparently, it's just me and my amp. Bummer...
  8. I noticed you didn't mention a DT 50 being plugged into your doohicky. I don't want to run out and purchase a bunch of stuff if it won't help me with my amp issue. I spoke to 2 L6 people. One tells me that the gear is fine and its a power ath the location issue. The other tells me that my amp have have bad/loose/weird tubes. not sure what to do and I have a gig tonight!
  9. Thanx! I'll check out power conditioners. But it begs the question, Why does shoddy power ONLY affect my DT. Other amps are plugged into the same shoddy power source. But only my amp looses output. One thing to add, there is also a very loud pop that sometimes happens when this output issue rears it's ugly head.
  10. Love the sound of my rig when I can get it to make a sound. I play my Hd500/Dt 50/JTV at home all the time. Never have a problem. I turn it on and it works. I took the rig to a rehearsal studio last night, it worked for one minute and then no output at all. All the lights are on but no sound. I bypassed the HD500 and went direct to the DT. No sound. I unplugged and replugged everything. The sound came back but with diminishing volume level. Shortly thereafter, the output was gone again. I moved the amp to another outlet in the rehearsal space and it worked for the rest of the rehearsal interrupted once by the no output thing. Unplugging and replugging everything seemed to fix it that time. The same thing happened to me at a gig. Lights on, no output. I went through the whole unplug/replug/bypass deal but wasn't able to change outlets. I wasn't able to get any output. I just used my Two Rock instead. Thank god I brought it! After the gig I took everything home, plugged it back in…no problems. What gives? One shouldn't have to completely tear ones rig apart and then put it back together in the hopes of getting the friggin thing to work! My music friends keep telling me the reason that I'm having these issues is because Line 6 makes cheap poorly made crap! And I keep saying "No, no, it's INEXPENSIVE, but not cheap and it is most certainly not crap! And this rig really sounds fantastic! I can do all of this really cool stuff with it." To which my music friends reply, "Well, lets hear it!" And there my dumb lollipop goes unplugging and replugging and lever switching and bypassing and fondling this and wiggling that and searching for other outlets to plug into down the friggin' hallway. All while they get to play music and have fun. It's embarrassing! I am a pro player and this is SUPPOSED to be pro gear. Any ideas? Thoughts? Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to get? Or is this just cheap poorly made crap? **UPDATE** I just set up my rig in my studio. Works perfectly! Sounds Incredible! I am a very confused man right now! I need a hug…...
  11. I can only help with a few of your questions. I have a DT 50 so clean head room is not an issue. It is a big amp but for me that drawback is minor. As for the ease of making usable patches? At first it sucks! You've got to learn how each amp model works and responds. You have so many choices that you are going to need to sit for a while and tweak until it sounds right. Fiddling with it in your bed room is not going to cut it. You got to gig with it! I've had my rig for over a year and I am STILl fine tuning patches. But now that I am over the learning hump, it's a fantastic sounding rig! L6 link works just fine and is super simple! I like simple. Reliable? I've had one issue where the amp cut out on me duing a show. Took the amp home and everything worked again. Pissed me off to no end! There was another time I had issue but that was operator error. So basically one issue over a year of gigging. But an issue that I never experienced with my Two Rock. In short, I always bring a back up! The "Dream Rig" is the Pod Hd 500(X) DT or L series and a Variax. You didn't mention your variax. Do you have one? Which model?
  12. If I understand you correctly, sounds like you need to use a volume pedal on the amp. I use the same set up an I use an external e pedal for for the xlr out and use the on board exp pedal to control the channel volume on the amp. Crank your amp a bit and roll the volume back with the pedal. See if that works.
  13. Not so sure I agree with you. Yes there are a lot of folks on this forum who swear by their amps. Thats because they are having a good experience with the amp. I don't think that people are over selling the DT's as the best on the planet. But if you are a "fanboy" and really enjoy you gear, you are going to share your experience with people. I don't believe that too many people are delusional in their zeal for their DT's. Some maybe, but not all. Set aside some of the tweaky problems that rear their ugly head from time to time, I think the amp sounds purty damn good. and the Dream Rigsounds fantastic! And I am comparing it to amps that cost thousands of dollars! Now if you really want to meet annoying "fanboys", talk to someone who just spent $6k for a 35 watt combo! Bring a lunch cause you're gonna be there for a while!
  14. Love It! Considering getting the L3T myself. How's it working for you?
  15. Different is not bad. The spank IS different. I had to do some tweaking of my patches to adjust for the difference but it sounds much better to my ears. 1.9 spank was thinner and scoopy. Now, to me, it sounds much more believable. And now I don't have to rely on mid focus eq as much. The acoustics are the same and the 12 strings are much improved! The Tele is perfect! The Specials, the Gretch and the chime are way way better! Change is hard for dudes! I personally hate change. But you gotta hang in there, it's really worth it. Remember all the time we spent tweaking 1.9? Give 2.0 the same amount of time you gave to 1.9. In my not so humble opinion, 2.0 is way way better!
  16. Good job! I'm going to put you to task. Any chance you could A/B the models directly? Listening through all of the models at once makes it a bit difficult to remeber what the first Tele model sounded like compared to the HD. Does that make sense? For example, play the old Tele, then play the new Tele and continue through the models in the same fashion.
  17. Makes complete sense! I really only wanted to know what was meant by worship music. I now have an answer and know what to think about when that discriptive is used. But for the sake of accuracy, even though this is completely beating a dead horse, what everyone is referring to as "Worship" really is nothing more than pop/rock a la Cold Play or even U2. But Hallelujah....I am now apart of the in crowd!
  18. If the amp has an fx loop then you are good to go! If not, Guitar in on the HD500. Out of HD to fron of the amp.
  19. Thanx! Great tone! I think I've got it! Worship music and tone is just a rip off of Cold Play and 10,000 Maniacs! Substitute the word "Baby" with "Lord"...Bada Bing, Bada Boom....Worship Music! ......Nah....Just messin' with ya! But really, I got it!
  20. Try This: 4 Cable Method Cabling Cable 1: Guitar Out --> HD Guitar In Cable 2: HD500 FX Send --> Amp Input Cable 3: Amp FX Send --> HD500 FX Return (Left) Cable 4: HD500 1/4" Out (Left) --> Amp FX Return Amp Settings Master volume(if you have one) = Low (for now, while you are setting up.) Amp Loop Switch = -10dB (Instrument level) Amp Loop Turned on ! If the amp loop has a 'mix' control, make sure this is set to 100% HD500 Settings Guitar Input Pad = Normal (unless you hear clipping from your guitar due to very powerful pickups) Master Volume = 100% (See the note about master volumes below) 1/4" Out Switch = 'Amp' Loop Level Switch = 'Stomp' System Output = 'Stack Power Amp' (within system settings)
  21. Frisco? At least go with San Fran Philly man!
  22. I think that you have made my point. When someone mentions a "worship song" YOU, think of keyboard playing pads...etc....."It's typical of songs in a "Worship set...." Well, it may not be so typical to someone else. Like me for instance. Prior to this discussion, when someone mentioned a worship song, keyboard pads, acoustic guitar and electric guitar with heavy reverb and dotted 8th delays just on the edge of breaking up were absolutely nowhere in the equation. But really, it's not that important. What is important is now, I know what is meant in guitar forums by "worship Guitar tones". It is a specific interplay between reverb, delay and sometimes distortion reminiscent of U2 where guitar tone is concerned. And even though I wouldn't categorize it personally as a "Worship Tone", I am now with the rest of the class in this discussion. I may be dating myself with this, but this discussion reminds me of the "Flesh" colored Crayola Crayon. Everyone kept telling me it was flesh colored, but it never looked like my flesh.
  23. Got it! Just having a hard time wrapping my mind around how that particular style of playing gets to claim the moniker of "Worship Music" when people worship in many different ways accompanied by many different styles of music. Some with and some without a "large reliance on delays and a tiny touch of distortion." But that's not important. What is important is I have been trying to make the AC models sound good and I come up short every time. Care to share?
  24. Thanx BigChas52! I'll Youtube those names and get a feel for what folks are calling "Worship music" It seems to be a misnomer though. I'm not much of a church goer, but the ones i have been to have always had great music. None of which sound like anything like what The Edge would play. And they call their music worship as well. Still a bit confusing, but at least now I understand what some of you are referring to. Now if you want to wake the congregation up, try playing some Living Sacrifice! They'll be payin attention for sure! Guaranteed!
