  1. Sales volume explains much of it, I suspect...How many people own a laptop vs. a guitar modeler? All companies need to recoup R&D and production costs, but some will have an easier time than others depending on how many units they expect to sell. You can get rich beyond the dreams of avarice if you're selling something that half the population is gonna buy (Philip Morris... cough, cough ;) ). And you can afford to let each unit go for a little less than you could theoretically get, because you'll make up the difference in volume...but that's not really the case with stuff like this. It's a very specific product, purchased by a very small demographic.
  2. The only option you ever really have for addressing any weird behavior like that is a factory reset, reinstalling the latest firmware, and then calibrating the expression pedal. Back up all your patches first. But even then, there are no guarantees. Intermittent problems suck...it'll either happen again, or it won't.
  3. Lol...CBGB's was more reliable than that back in the good old days. ;)
  4. Here's what I do: 1) Convene a focus group to address the issue. 2) Lobby for sufficient funding. 3) Tap Al Gore for an environmental impact study to assess loud guitar players' carbon footprint, and their cumulative effect on climate change. 4) Arrange for a reading of "Curious George and the Volume Knob" at the local library. 5) Tweak patches to taste at or near the volume at which I intend to use them, level accordingly (HINT: Turn up if it's not loud enough, or down if it's rattling windows in the next zip code), hit "save" and call it a day. Now that I think about it, I could probably skip the first 4 steps. Jeez, I've been making this complicated...
  5. Theres nothing in there that will convincingly mimic a twelve string...
  6. That's twice today...I give up. Long live The Great Volume Conundrum! Lets all have a great big group "Huh?"😩
  7. Another day, another volume discussion. I swear there'd be less confusion amongst a bunch of PhD's discussing theoretical physics after a 3 martini lunch. It's baffling... We're not calculating the position of a black hole's event horizon, nor planning the logistics of the Normandy invasion. There is no mystery here. If it's too loud, turn it down. If it's not loud enough, turn it up. Save. It has always been, and forever shall be that simple...
  8. Nothing lasts forever. Get used to planned obsolescence... that's how our economy works now. Buy something and use it until you're either tired of it, or it craps the bed. But lamenting over the lack of ad-ons for a product that's 6 or 7 years old at a minimum, is ridiculous... Best part is, if Helix didn't exist and L6 was still aggressively pimping the HD series, everybody would be whining "when are we gonna see a new unit?" Nobody's ever satisfied...
  9. What's been described here is true of every 2-point floating tremolo on earth... there's nothing particularly unique about the Variax's design in that respect. You can't expect the bridge to stay in place if you remove all the string tension. The strings pull it one way, and the springs in the back pull it the opposite way...if you remove all the strings, then the springs will win the tug of war, and out pops the bridge. Periodically, you can expect the bridge to get pulled out of alignment one way or the other...especially as the neck moves with the change of seasons. Adjust accordingly with the claw screws...that's what they're there for. It ain't rocket science.
  10. This has nothing to do with being "syndical" (it's really tempting to make fun of this, but I digress...) Go ahead and keep asking...and try not to be discouraged by the thundering silence of the L6's "reply". May the Force be with you.

  12. Congratulations, you are the 4,383,247th person to ask that question! ;) Today's prize is a large dose of reality: 1) 99.97% of the folks around here don't know the answer to that question, no matter how often it's asked. 2) The remaining 0.03% aren't talking. 3) The $500 modeler is an endangered species. 4) Numbers 1 through 3 notwithstanding, it's not particularly likely. The POD is a many years old platform at this point. The various Helix iterations (and the continued evolution thereof) are clearly the focus now. 5) See pianoguyy's answer above. 6) Lather, rinse, repeat...;)
  13. My helix keeps leaving the toilet seat up, and it's aggravating the wife...
  14. Significantly altered tunings can get to be a problem...left in standard tuning, the acoustic models are quite convincing.
  15. Ugh... Customer: "Does this car have the same engine as previous models?" Salesman: "It comes in 3 new colors!". Customer: "Marvelous, but that's not the question I asked". It could have a model of an overdriven bassoon, or the world's most perfect approximation of a giraffe's mating call...but that really wouldn't have answered his question either. He asked about one of the stock acoustic models, which are all the same.
  16. I got new shoelaces yesterday...;)
  17. The modeling is all the same...the Shuriken just wraps it in a different package.
  18. Yup... some years ago most if not all their necks adjusted at the heel. The first one I bought nearly 20 years ago was like that, and would have been my last had they not changed the design sometime in the early 2000's. It's just stupid... those mounting holes get loose over time, you end up with alignment problems, and sooner or later you're doweling and re-drilling holes...and that's exactly what happened to my first one. And for what? A 1/4 turn on the truss rod. By the time the second hole gave out I was done with having to adjust it that way, and it went to the toothpick factory. Granted, I had it for about 15 years...but I'd probably still have it if it were a sensible design. There was nothing wrong with it otherwise.
  19. One can only hope that a "zing" parameter is added in the next firmware update...;)
  20. This is precisely why all my Warmoth necks (3 currently) are the "vintage modern"... the dual action truss rods are a great concept, but I've always been skeptical of that fine-tuning mechanism. I don't understand why the adjustment ever has to be at the heel, but if you're gonna build it that way, then it should have the cut-out behind the last fret and recessed adjustment nut that can be accessed without taking off the damn neck. It turns a 4.5 second adjustment into a 20 minute project, and if you do it often enough you'll eventually strip one or more neck mounting holes...been there done that. Never again.
  21. Your fellow man is (mostly) horrible...if you don't want to see someone else monetizing something you created, then don't give it away.
