It's just describing the batting order. Whether you're using actual FX pedals or models thereof, something has to be first in the signal chain, and something else is last. Play with the order and see what works best for you. There's nothing mystical about it, but the order does matter and will change how things sound. It's largely personal preference.

This thread began 2 1/2 years ago, and was then revisited a couple of times with long dormant periods in between...whatever the gripe, it's going nowhere. The POD is old. Accept it. It ain't getting any more facelifts...

3 cheers for utter pointlessness! Who likes asparagus? ;)

This is amusing. Just for the sake of argument, what's to stop anyone from buying a Helix once a week, and selling it? I mean it's weird, you'd lose money, and it'll land you on the cover of The Daily Moron...but why bother having an unenforceable policy? Who's gonna know?

You didn't buy a Stradivarius. If you look at ANY gear purchase as an "investment", you're gonna be disappointed.

Only if you plan on crowning the main board...not recommended. ;)

Consider it a blessing...Customtone is a dreadful waste of time. By the time you've downloaded the 100+ patches you'd have to audition just to find the 1 or 2 that you'd actually use, you could have created all the tones you're looking for from scratch. But if you're intent on making it work, we'll need more info than that...the device, what you've actually tried doing so far, etc.

In 30 odd years of playing, I've never seen a string break in the middle of the fretboard without the assistance of wire cutters...that's just plain weird.

I smell an opti-trem discussion on the horizon...;)

What frets are on JTV69 ? SS ? Jumbo?

Trust me, they're not gold frets. Discolored and crappy looking perhaps, depending on the condition they're in...but they ain't gold. -

Neither. Plain old nickel-silver fret wire. Don't remember the size...replaced the stock neck after only a month or two, it's a dog...but that's me. Some guys like it. -
Which end is breaking, by the nut or the bridge? If it's by the nut, it's possible that the slot needs to be filed a bit. Sometimes the string can bind in there and break when you bend. On the other hand, you could just be playing the daylights out of your strings. Until I started using coated strings, I never had a set last much more than 7-10 days if the guitar was played daily. Couple of weeks is about as good as it gets, unless you really don't play much.

So take it off...I do. Goes back on in 2.7 seconds. Then you can use any stand in the known universe and it won't matter.

Have it re-fretted with stainless frets and it will last for years on end without need of fretwork...not quite forever, but FAAAAAAAAAAAR longer than nickel- silver frets. Slowly converting all my guitars. Bending is effortless on stainless frets. Feels like glass. Wish I had done it years ago. Do it now, thank me later...

Action should be adjusted primarily at the bridge, not with the truss rod. While neck relief adjustments do affect the action to a degree, that's not really what it's for. Raising or lowering the action at the bridge will sometimes require that the neck relief be adjusted as well, but not always. If you're not familiar with doing so, take it to someone who is...damage is easily done.

Well I humbly apologize for my lack of context then... but he can't have it both ways. Without being mic-ed, you're either gonna (pardon the pun) fret over the ears of the folks in the front row, or EQ for the largest number of ears in the room, most of which are elsewhere. Can't do both...that's what I was driving at, and its precisely what I had addressed both times: A cab, no mic, and the bleeding ears of the people down in front. However many there may are, they're in the minority.

Next you'll tell us that there's nothing you can do about gravity either...damn physics! I know...you guys should partner with the dudes at CERN. That way, when they finally create a black hole that swallows the earth, at least it'll sound cool...😂 Oh well...sorry boys, but there shall be no "sound awesome under all imaginable conditions without doing any work" button coming in this update. 😉

"but you've also got to think about the people up front who are going to hear the unfiltered sound of the cab blasting at their ears" I really have no desire to revive this discussion, but just for the sake of closure, the quote above was really the part I was responding to...I can re-read that all day and it won't make any more sense to me than it did the first time. It goes without saying that you'd want things to sound good over as large an area as possible, and to advocate otherwise would be inviting the men with the white coats and butterfly nets to take me away. This is especially challenging if you're not mic-ed, as a guitar cab won't disperse the way a PA does... and in such a scenario, why I should be overly concerned about a few square feet of real estate right up front, is beyond me. If that makes me nuts, then so be it... But as I said somewhere above, it's all academic these days anyway. I haven't had a cabinet on stage in years at this point.

Lmao...😂 If this keeps up we're gonna need a sub-forum for stalkers of 80's pop-rock guitarists. Roundtable discussions about what meds everybody is on, exchanging mug-shots, etc...it'll be a hoot! ;)

There was a time when I was overly concerned with trying to tone match for every tune in the set...but not anymore. Frankly, it's exhausting. Plus, half the time the set list changes on the fly anyway...sometimes you gotta play to the mood of the audience. It's distracting and looks amateurish if I have to rummage through countless patches because somebody yells out "play some Skynyrd!". On the other hand, If I we're doing the tribute band thing, then I'd be more inclined to try and nail the tone, as people are expecting something much more specific...but that's just me.

Can't wait to see how this one plays out... lol
