HD500X works this way; Helix is different (by design) and displays both states—the current state is lit; the alternate state is dim.

An Amp+Cab block should use the exact same amount of DSP as separate Amp and Cab > Single blocks. Obviously a Cab > Dual block would use more. A 1024-point IR will use a little more DSP than a native Cab > Single block. A 2048-point IR will use a little more than twice the DSP.

Is Helix worth buying for just the effects-NO AMPS NEEDED.
Digital_Igloo replied to JLEpperson's topic in Helix
Wait... Did you add a "the" before Helix and a superfluous space between sentences to my quote? I was like "Huh? That's something I remember writing but there's no way I wrote it that way!" Just for that, I'm editing your quote as well. :D I'm obvious biased, but Helix was meticulously engineered to maintain signal integrity all the way through. "Tone suck" is in the ear of the beholder, but we're running the same converters (well, 8-channel versions) as boxes that cost a lot more. Reports from the field in this regard have been overwhelmingly positive. -
Yeah, a metronome in Helix should be Global, and appear in the Tempo panel when you touch TAP.

Will be fixed in 1.04.

PLEASE contact CS and log this. It's the only way we can properly track bugs and apply metrics. If something's an easy fix, we can sometimes issue it within days. If it sits on a forum somewhere (even our own forum), there's no guarantee someone has even seen it. Thanks!

Despite what others claim, if you're accustomed to a huge tube amp pointing at the back of your knees, no amount of technology is going to convince you an FRFR or PA speaker is the same thing. Glad you found something that works. Cheers! :)

When Apple fixes El Capitan.

Looks like FW 1.03.0 and the Helix Application 1.01 are both dropping tomorrow morning. Was going to be this afternoon, but we want to bang on them a bit longer.
-
Windows 10 support is coming in Helix app 1.01, which should be available soon.

We've been including a "Known Issues" section in the release notes of every Helix firmware release. If you read between the lines, these are things we're aware of and are either actively working on, or waiting on a Windows/OSX/iOS/Android patch in order to get things working properly. Reporting a bug on this forum is about 5% as effective as contacting Line 6 Customer Service, where those guys have direct access to QA and developers. Sometimes I'm able to see stuff, repro it myself, and forward it directly, but no one should ever rely on this. Please do not post bugs on 18 different forums and then complain if we don't respond. YOU MUST CONTACT LINE 6 CS so we can log your issue. Reporting a bug is much more helpful with a proper repro (especially freezes). It helps to know exactly what you were doing right before it all went down. If we can repro a bug, it may be something that can be fixed in a matter of days.

How to plug your iPod into the helix if you have Variax?
Digital_Igloo replied to JazzInc's topic in Helix
It's fairly common for devices to resolve to a single digital clock, and therefore digital input. If your bluetooth adapter has analog line-level outputs, yes, they can be plugged into Return 1/2 or 3/4 stereo. You'll want to set the connected returns to line level here: Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Page 2. -
Backing Tracks Played Through Effects Loop Drop Out
Digital_Igloo replied to gkinder's topic in Helix
Are you on El Capitan? This is something that's affecting a ton of people. Unfortunately, 10.11.1 has the same problem. We're ANXIOUSLY awaiting 10.11.2. iOS 9 has a bunch of audio gremlins too. To me it implies Apple is aggressively attempting to merge their desktop and mobile platforms. -
That particular glitch is indeed a bug that has been fixed with one of the recent firmware updates (forget which one—it should be in the release notes). The very first batch of Helices have all been opened up—We had an army of dudes who installed the latest firmware (well, it was new at the time) and USB flash drives. So yes, it's quite possible that the unit may have appeared to have been opened; we had a day to update many, many units, so perhaps a cable didn't get re-wrapped as tightly as it could've.

Helix - Disable Cab in Amp+Cab without changing blocks?
Digital_Igloo replied to Travis_Matte's topic in Helix
The KPA's cabs eat up DSP as well, regardless of whether or not they're disabled globally—you just don't see the hit, as Kemper employs fixed-DSP allocation. I kinda like the idea of globally disabling all cab blocks, but we'd need some sort of warning on the home screen so people wouldn't freak out (kinda like the Global EQ icon); it's worth submitting on IdeaScale. -
Soon(ish).

Sorry, ozbadman—I need to remember to use smileys! I took no offense at all. Here's a link that explains what's going on a bit better.
-
Yep—this is a bug. We'll fix it.
-
Sure. They can be placed anywhere. If you place them toward the end of a path, they'll be unprocessed.
-
If you're using the Guitar+Vocal template, set the Vocal path's output to USB 3/4 (or 5/6). In your DAW, record two tracks—one stereo set to USB In 3/4 (or 5/6) and another set to USB 8. Track one will record your vocals processed, and track two will record your vocals dry, in case you wish to reamp them later.
-
Are you an attorney specializing in trade law? If not, cool—I'm not either, but Line 6 employs them, and I just reiterate what I've been told. True—even if that Enron debacle didn't generate all these new rulings and guidelines, we wouldn't show our roadmap to the masses (that'd be really stupid), but smaller companies have been sued to oblivion for less.
-
From the Action Panel? There should be an additional "Clear All Blocks" dialog box for confirmation.
-
Helix officially only supports 64-bit Mac OSes (OS X 10.8 and above... once Apple fixes El Capitan's audio gremlins), but there's a chance earlier versions might work, as the audio driver is class-compliant.
-
Yeah, the entire MI industry is digging deep to figure out what's going on with El Capitan. 10.11.1 helps a bit, but we're not out of the water yet.

It's something that gets mentioned here from time to time, but the real issue is Helix knowing the volume at which you're playing. The main VOLUME knob could be going into a power amp at the threshold of hearing... or the threshold of pain. I suppose a future Helix could have a mic built into the top chassis that would pay attention to ambient volume, but what happens when the rack's close to the drums? Or the cab's in a different room? Or across stage? These are the things that keep us awake at night. Yes, a Fletcher-Munson curve could help, but Helix understanding context is a big leap. Pro Tip: Many of Helix's amp models default with their Master knobs set to 10, as this is how they're generally recorded in the studio. If you're not used to hearing a Vox AC30 at 10 (and if you're in the same room, you probably shouldn't), it'll sound more "right" with the Master volume setting reflecting that which you're accustomed to on the real amp.
